Select the number of pages you want the document to have, the preferred orientation and mar-gins and click OK.
This will show the grid of the document. To snap to the grid so that you can line up your pic-tures and texts more easily, go to View-Grids & Guides-Snap to Document Grid
Now you can easily line up text and pictures in your document. To create a text box, simply click on the text tool in the left hand tool bar and click and drag in the document to the desired size. This is the same as in illustrator.
Once you are done dragging, you can begin typing what you want to appear in the text box. The text options tools are in the upper left hand toolbar.

Indesign allows you to simply drag and drop pictures from elsewhere on your computer into the document you are working on. Simply open the folder with your pictures and click and drag it into the document you are currently working on.
When you drag the picture in, it may not be the size you want it to be so you have to use the scale tool in order to resize the picture.
