members of the Legislature can use in making informed decisions with confidence.

To the Areas Being Assessed: IAS reports provide objective, unbiased, and independently developed information

about the areas being assessed that can be used by management to improve its methods of operating. IAS

recommendations, when implemented, frequently result in more effective, efficient, and economical programs.

To Third Parties: Investors and vendors can use the IAS reports as one more piece of information they can rely on

to make decisions. For example, the IAS report produced for ―AMI Firmware Upgrade Process‖ which includes the

Independent Assessors General's opinion regarding fair presentation in conformity with generally accepted quality

and testing principles is relied on by the AMI Vendor in setting quality release management process between all

relevant parties involved. Also, Single Independent Assessment can satisfy the local and federal government's

demand for accountability of federal funds allocated to the utility.

Client 1 (Smart Meter Vendor)

The client and its customer utilities, in order to foster cooperation and to arrive at a

consensus-based quality assessment criteria for future assessments, engaged DEKRA

in 2010 and 2011 to perform a quality and maturity benchmark assessment of the

vendor‘s hardware, firmware, and meter data management systems.

Results of the performed assessments were analyzed against companies with similar

technology deployments which have been transformative to their industries, including

analyses of expectations at different process maturity levels and a finding of the

vendor‘s own process maturity level.

The following slides show one deliverable, a real-time dashboard illustrating Client

performance and customer satisfaction metrics.

Client 2 (Utility)

In 2010-2011, DEKRA undertook a data assessment of the Client Utility‘s Meter

Firmware Vendor‘s release for stability, prediction of residual defect levels, and

generation of a reliability growth curve.

The analysis generated from the assessment became a decision point for the utility to

move forward with a proactive plan for Firmware stability improvements in 2011.

The following slide shows one deliverable, the output of a Software Reliability model

run against the Client‘s Vendor‘s Firmware.

System to manage hazardous substances

This manufacturer needs an expert report on every

hazardous substance to be used in the production

run of its vehicle development. DEKRA experts

evaluate the risks of all substances used,

recommend measures to minimise risks, help

implement safety measures and check that all

existing safety data sheets are correct and included

them in a custom database.

Verify Greenhouse Gas Inventory to ISO Standards

This firm‘s customers expect detailed, reliable data on
