IN THE A.L. ACTIVITY AREA

TOPIC: PROTECTING YOURSELF, AND YOUR ASSETS AS YOU AGE

This seminar is presented by the Montgomery Area Council On Aging and

their Ombudsmen, Caroline Akins will be here as our guest speaker.

Please make every effort to attend that afternoon as there will be various

topics and you’ll be provided valuable information when it comes to

protecting yourself, your assets, and your identity.

In this new age of personal business being done by computers or digitally,

and the use of cell phones (which cell phone numbers are not private any

longer), anyone and everyone is fair game for the purpose of scamming a

person out of your money, but especially senior adults. These scammers

are pro’s at what they do and, therefore, you need to be made aware of

what TO DO & what NOT TO DO when you encounter these type people

when they contact you either by phone calls or other media.

NATIONAL CATFISH MONTH &

ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 17th

WE’RE GOING TO THE CATFISH HOUSE!

What better way to celebrate National Catfish Month by enjoy some fresh,

farm raised catfish cooked to your preference at the very popular, Catfish

House, in Millbrook, AL. Their white beans and special relish along with

their hush puppies are worth the trip there alone! For those of you that do

NOT like seafood or fish, they do have chicken on their menu.

*We will leave at 4:30. Sign-up on the activity sheet is a MUST due to the

limited seating on the bus.

OH, HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN...!!!!

REGARDING OUR ACTIVITIES PROGRAM

Beginning August, we are going to go by only one Activity Calendar and

not two separate ones! So, daily activities will be offered to both AL and IL

sides. Please refer to your calendar for the location of each activity

scheduled.

Bingo will also be combined, just like we had it pre-Covid-19. However,

due to the limited number of tables and now the combining of both AL & IL,

you will be limited to playing with a maximum of 4 cards to allow more

people to sit at a table.

OAK GROVE INN’S HAWAIIAN LUAU

ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 31st at 3:00 p.m.

You will be hearing the rush of waves as they crash on

shore and the island sounds of steel drums with the electric

slide guitar playing. You’ll be greeted with an, “Aloha”, and a tropical, floral necklace, a lei, will be placed around your

neck.

You won’t want to miss our Hawaiian Luau. First we’ll turn the IL dining room into a festive tropical oasis. Then, at 3:00

the festivities begin. At the Luau we’ll be serving tropical drinks and other island refreshments.

You will be entertained by an authentic Hawaiian dancer(s)

and perhaps get in on some audience participation. You

won’t want to miss the fun! *Dress as casual or as island-like

as you can.

Just “lei” back and enjoy the afternoon!

BROADWAY UNDER THE STARS is BACK this year!

at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival

Thursday, August 26th

Concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

It’s time for the city’s annual event, “Broadway Under the Stars” presented by the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra. Hear songs from such musicals as, The Sound

of Music, Wicked, and The Phantom of the Opera. It is one of Montgomery’s most popular events held every year at The Alabama Shakespeare Festival Park. The

concert begins at 7:30 p.m. but we will be leaving Oak Grove Inn at 6:30. We will

provide the chairs and once there, snacks and beverages. *Those IL residents

going will have your dinner delivered that evening.

Sign-up is a must for transportation purposes. You can register yourself on the

sign-up sheet in the Activity Book located on both AL & IL sides.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS ON SCHEDULE

TO START IN SEPTEMBER!!!!!

It’s that time of year once again! Time for gathering with friends around the t.v. on a Saturday or having your own tailgate party to cheer on your team. Join us in September on Saturdays for our College Football Tailgate Time.

We will schedule to show on the big screen t.v. located in the IL Media Room, either the Alabama or Auburn “Game of the Week”. So come and cheer on

your team! Refer to your Activity Calendar or printed announcement for the game and

time to be televised. *In this month’s newsletter we have included a 2021 football schedule for both Alabama & Auburn. We will have additional copies if you need one.

ANY UPCOMING ELECTION!

Those of you who have recently moved to Oak Grove Inn will

need to update your Voter Registration to be able to vote in future

elections and in this district. The forms to do so are in the IL Office or ask

for Chris for assistance.

Here’s additional information which you’ll need to complete your form: Oak Grove Inn is in DISTRICT 8 & our PRECINCT is 105.

The Polling Place for us is located at ALDERSGATE UNITED

METHODIST CHURCH on Vaughn Road.
