May INDELIBLE IMPRESSIONS … …A day by day account of some special moments in our colourful canvas of achievements. May 1 Yashaswi Chawla of class I attained the 1st position in the Under-7 Girls Category, at the Inter School Chess Championship held at Aster Public School, organised under the aegis of Noida-Greater Noida Chess Association which entitled her to participate in the State Chess Championship in Banaras from 13-16 May 2016. May 2 - 6 “The Good Deed Tree” activity was conducted in class II wherein each child was asked to think and write about any one good deed. A collage in the form of a good deed tree was then made by the children. The activity concluded with each child speaking about his /her good deed and sharing it with the others. May 1 - 13 DPS Noida's Interact Club collaborated with the Rotary Club of O.P. Jindal University for the 'Unite for Better Vision' initiative wherein used spectacle frames were to be donated. The students and the teachers enthusiastically took part and over 50 spectacle frames were collected in this campaign. May 2 The students of class VII presented their Annual Production 'Rajputon Ki Shaan, Prithviraj Chauhan', a tale on the life of the valiant king, Prithviraj Chauhan. The show depicted the transformation of a young and wise prince into a righteous king whose unflinching love for his motherland made him sacrifice his life to defend its honour against a foreign invader. May 1

· Yashaswi Chawla of class I attained the 1st position in the Under-7 Girls Category, at the

May 2 - 6

Lecturer/Director, Secondary Teachers Education at Bates College USA was the Chief

Guest at the event.

May 4· Mukhaute, the Hindi Theatre Club of

DPSN organised a performance by the

Khilona Group for the students,

"Hard Times" by Charles Dickens.

The play was directed by well known

Theatre- in Education expert, Mr.

Kiran Deep. The play highlighted the

importance of nurturing, both the

intuitive and the reasoning mind, for

the education of children; motivating

them to shed their inhibitions and

express their ideas explicitly through

drama.

· The school organised a movie show 'The Jungle Book' for the students of class VI at the

Spice Mall.

May 5

· The Karate Champions of DPSN won the Overall Championship with 16 gold medals,

20 silver and 33 Bronze in the 10th

U P I n t e r S c h o o l K a r a t e

Championship, 2016, held at the

Noida Stadium, organised by the

Sports Karate Association, UP. More

than 15 schools and over 250

students part icipated in this

prestigious competition.

May 6

· The Hindi Theatre Club of DPSN

'Mukhaute' organised MUSKURAHAT, the Annual Inter Section Theatre Competition

for classes IX-X. The presentation of class IX, titled Hansi Ke Phavare, comprised

numerous Hindi poems enacted by the students. Class X presented Nukkad Natak on social

issues. Each presentation was applauded wholeheartedly by the audience which

comprised students of classes VI-XI.

· The Maths wizards of DPSN(classes VI-XII) won one gold medal, ten silver medals and

seven bronze at the XXXII Annual Manavsthali All India Inter School Maths Talent Test

which was earlier held on 23rd January 2016.

· The students of Class Nursery to III celebrated Mother's Day. Children made beautiful

cards for their mothers portraying their mothers as queen of their hearts. They also

enjoyed reciting poems about mothers. The children were given the day planner to enjoy

the day with their mothers through activities eg. outing, dance, surprises, hugs and gifts.

May 6 - 7

· 5 students of the Japanese Language(VIII) attended a Japanese Language Day and

Camp organised at DPS Greater Noida accompanied by their teacher, Mrs. Kanika Negi.

This overnight camp gave the students an invaluable opportunity to interact with the

Japanese native speakers and learn more about their culture and language through various

activities, which were conducted by Japanese volunteers. The activities included Japanese

Noodle Making, Kimono tying, Toy Making, Calligraphy, Rice Ball Making and Folktale

Enactment. They were also shown a Japanese Movie.

May 7

· DPS Noida Computer Club E- Spice students were the Overall Winners at Unplugged

V5.0, the Inter School IT Competition, organised by Khaitan School, Noida. They won the

1st prize in the Quiz, Symposium and

Virtual Canvas. They won the 2nd

prize in Turtle War, Robotics and Web

Weaving and the 3rd prize in Cipher. A

total of 13 students participated in this

competition.

May 6 - 8

· DPSN won the Best Delegation

Award in the Model United Nations

Conference organised by G.D.

Goenka, Vasant Kunj. More than 35 schools participated in this competition. DPSN,

representing the Russian Federation, won 2 Best Delegate Awards, 4 High

Commendations and 1 Special Mention.

May 7 - 8

· DPSN won the Delhi-NCR Inter School Equestrian Challenge Trophy at the Ahiraan

Trophy Excellentia Horse Show 2016 with 32 awards which include 9 gold, 6 silver, 8

Bronze and 9 Copper Medals. The events held were Jumps, Hacks, Pole Bending, Ball

and Bucket and Drenage. DPS Noida was adjudged the Best Team at this prestigious

event.

May 8

· The Interactors of DPSN visited

'The Gyanshakti Vidyalaya - a

school after school' where they

donated books to the students

which had been collected during a

Book Drive held at DPSN. The

students interacted with little

children, teaching them nursery

rhymes and playing games. Furthermore, they emphasised on the importance of books and

education, in order to encourage the students to read.

May 8 - 28

· Two students, Navya Chabhda of class XI and Ridhi Khurana of class X, participated in the

Pasch Youth Camp in St. Peter Ording, Germany. They received a Scholarship by the

Goethe Institute New Delhi. 44 students from India, Thailand and Phillipines participated in

this programme.

May 9

· The school organised a Movie Show "The Man Who Knew Infinity " for the students of

class XII in the Great India Place Mall.

· A Special Evening Session for the Astronomy Club Students of classes VII-VIII was

organised at the school, in collaboration with Z-life Education, for viewing the rare

phenomenon of 'Mercury Sun Dance' that happened after a decade. Telescopes were

installed within the school campus to enable the students to watch the Planet Mercury

which appeared like a dot, travelling across the Solar Disc. It was a memorable experience.

· Kriti Ahuja of the school has been shortlisted for the Times NIE Summer Editorial

Training Programme 2016-17. The student will get a chance to work with the editorial

team of the Times of India Student Edition and gain a hands-on experience in editing and

journalism. At the end of the training the participant will get a 'Certificate of Honour' from the

Editor.

· Jigyasa Tuli of class XII secured the 1st position at TIE(The Indian Entrepreneurs)

Global Youth Programme, Regional Finals, 2016, organised by TIE Delhi NCR, alongwith

her team 'Roamigos'. Their exceptional business idea and presentation skills helped

them to secure the 1st position at the Regional level. They represented TIE Delhi-NCR at

the Global Finals for the TIE Youth Entrepreneurship Competition 2016, organised at

rd thPortland, Oregon from 23 - 25 June 2016.

May 9 - 12

· DPS Noida was the Second Runners Up in the Inter School District Girls Basketball

Tournament(U-16), held in Army Public School, Noida. 18 prestigious schools of District

Gautam Budh Nagar participated in this tournament.

· A three day musical extravaganza "The

Beaming Ties" was hosted by

Harmonics, the Western Music Club of the

school for classes VI, VII and VIII

respectively. Around 400 students

participated with enthusiasm in this music

festival which enabled these keen

learners of Western Music to perform on

stage. The budding singers were

monitored by the Western Music Club Members of classes IX-XI.

· Ms. Swati Rawat of the Biology Department conducted Biology sessions at the

Academic Camp in Science and Mathematics for 120 top ranked students (DPSS-

SMTE) of Delhi Public Schools who are presently studying in Class X. She conducted

these sessions at the DPSS-HRD Centre, New Delhi. This camp was organised to expose

the meritorious students to academic challenges at higher level, concept development and

to keep them abreast of the latest developments in the world of science.

May 10

· Nine students of classes II-V

thparticipated in the 8 U.P. State

Yoga Championship held at

Noida College of Physical

Education, Dadri, Greater Noida

and won 6 medals (2 golds,2

silvers and 2 bronzes).

May 12

· Mrs. Archana Sharma, Prerna Saran and Preeti Vyas of the English Faculty, DPSN

attended a Discussion Meet on 'Teaching and Learning of the English Language at all

Delhi Public Schools'. The meeting was held to enable a discussion on course content,

pedagogy, skills in language learning, drama and poetry etc.

· DPS Noida has been selected to participate in the Swiss Indian Classroom Exchange

Programme with General Secondary School in Basel, Switzerland. This programme is

funded by the Mercator Foundation Switzerland and run by the Ch. Foundation. For an

entire school year, the partner classes will work together on a jointly chosen project, using

an internet platform or social media to create a virtual classroom. This partnership will be

rounded out with a real life cultural exchange, when the Swiss class visits India and the

Indian class makes a return visit to Switzerland. 15-20 students from class XI are proposed

to be a part of this programme.

· Ms. Aditi Mitra, Counsellor, DPSN conducted a workshop on Inter Personal Skills for the

students of the Australian Exchange Programme. The aim of the workshop was to put

forth the importance of inter personal skills when travelling to a new country and meeting

new people.

· The Investiture Ceremony of the Junior Wing, was organized to formally constitute the

Student Council. The programme began with a patriotic song 'Ekla Chalo Re'. This was

followed by a play based on Tagore's renowned dance drama, 'Chandalika'. Taking the

inspiration of Tagore forward, students of DPS Noida performed a dance adaptation of the

lyrical poem 'Let My Country Awake'. Mr Pramod Grover, Chairman DPS Noida, Dr

Sandeep Gulati, Vice Chairman DPS Noida Managing Committee and Dr KN Khandelwal,

Member DPS Noida Managing Committee gave the badges and certificates to the student

leaders.

May 12 - 15

· Drishti Rawat of class XII brought laurels to the country by bagging Silver Medal in

the International Philosophy Olympiad, held in Belgium. 44 countries participated in the

IPO which is a competition for high school students and is organised under the auspices of

the FISP, affiliated to UNESCO. She, alongwith a student from Seth MR Jaipuria School,

represented India as a two member team.

May 13

· Mr. Amit Dutta of the Maths Department was awarded a Special Certificate for the Best

Organising Teacher of the Year 2015-16 for organising the 19th National Mathematics

Olympiad Contest 2015-16 successfully

May 14 - June 30

· About 50 students of the Interact Club took part in the 'Each One Teach One' program

conducted by Rotary India Literacy Mission which was an opportunity for all the

interactors to turn an illiterate into a literate person during their Summer Break.

May 15

· Subject Experts from the departments of English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Computer

Science, Social Studies and Physical Education visited DPS Moradabad to conduct

interviews at the Selection Committee Meeting.

May 16 - 27

· A series of workshops were conducted for the entire staff of DPS Noida for a fortnight

which included daily Yoga Sessions, Meditation Session, Intra Department Workshops as

well as Talks on Gender Sensitivity, Financial Education and Nutrition conducted by

professionals. The aim of the workshops was multipronged - a wholesome exercise to de-

stress, rejuvenate the teachers while engaging them in meaningful learning activities to

enhance their professional and personal competence.

· DPSN conducted an array of workshops for the students of classes II-X. English

be staged in the coming months. Little Hands at Work was a comprehensive workshop

with activities ranging from flower arrangement, fireless cookery, embroidery, handicraft,

rangoli, gift wrapping, table manners, aerobics, yoga, calligraphy, green fingers to story

telling. Aerobics and Karate were regular features that energized the students for the day

ahead. In the Cyber Craft Workshop students were equipped with the basic skills of

Desktop Publishing Concept. They created flyers, cards and brochures on their own and

acquired skills of digital collage making and digital video editing. Sharpening Minds with

Maths and Science focused on developing mathematical, analytical skills with the help of

interesting, hands on activities. This workshop also enhanced the scientific temper of the

students wherein they conducted various experiments and participated in outdoor activities.

The workshop Refresh your Mind through Art Forms further developed the dancing and

singing talents of the participants laying stress on correct dance forms and movements.

Sufficient practice was given so as to hone their singing skills. The Creative Art Workshop

was a good platform for the budding artists. They made portraits, wall hangings using mix

media which have been displayed in the school. These workshops were enthusiastically

attended by the young learners and turned out to be a funfilled, fruitful and memorable

learning experience.

May 16 - June 03

· A Sports Camp was organized for the sports enthusiasts. Students honed their skills further

in the fields of Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Horse Riding, Cricket, Football, Basket Ball,

Yoga, Athletics and Skating under expert guidance.

May 17

· DPS Noida Spanish students of classes VII & VIII won the 1st prize in 'Vamos - a-comer',

Fireless Cooking Competition and the 2nd prize in 'Vamos-a-Jugar' a Spanish game, at the

Inter School Spanish Language Festival at DPS Ghaziabad.

May 17-18

· 12 year old Anika Varma of DPSN won the IGU Ladies and Junior Golf Tournament

held in New Delhi, in the B-Category. This was a remarkable achievement as she, in

accordance with her age, is a player of the C-Category.

May 18

· Students of the Environment Club of the school visited the S.P.C.A. Noida to donate 60

kilos of wasted newspaper to help in making newspaper beddings for the animals.

May 18 - 24

· Ms. Aditi Mitra, Counsellor, DPS Noida conducted a workshop on Gender Sensitivity for

the entire teaching staff. The aim of the workshop was to help teachers understand the

importance and relevance of Gender Sensitivity in the current scenario and how it affects

our dealing with students.

May 19

· The Economics Department conducted an Inter Section Economics Symposium -

ARTHA for the students of class XI. Students presented their views on a wide range of

current topics related to Smart Cities, India Shining, Reverse Brain Drain, Growth pattern of

Asian Economics and Sustainable Development. The discussion was supported by power

point presentations followed by question answer round. The objective of this event was to

encourage those students who have never participated in public speaking. The

students were very well equipped with information on India and World Economics.

Extensive research was evident in each team's presentation.

May 19 - 20

· Mrs. Rachna Misra of the Biology Department attended a 2 day workshop on 'Genetics',

organised at the IARI Pusa Campus.

May 20 - July 11

· Maruth Goyal of class XI interned with Professor Prashant Shenoy at VMass Amherst,

Massachssets, on a project on Artificial Intelligence. Furthermore he attended a 3 week

residential summer programme at Stanford University, California called 'Stanford Pre-

Collegiate Summer Institutes'; a very sought after programme which is an intensive series of

lectures, review sessions and assignments under the guidance of highly qualified

professors.

May 23 - 27

· Mrs. Deepali Taneja of the French Department attended a workshop for Teacher's

Training by BELC University (CIEP) - India, South Asia in coordination with Embassy of

France in India. The workshop dealt with two modules, 'French for non-specialists' and

'French teaching through technology' and was hosted by Amity University Noida.

May 25 - July 1

· Pranav Powar and Aryaman Gupta of class VIII attended a regional Summer Camp for

German Learners of India, Sri Lanka and Iran at Wayanad, Kerala. The highlights of the

camp were workshops on Germany - Applied Geography, the land and its people,

Personality and leadership Development and Creativity.

May 26

· An 18 member team of Sahaja Yoga visited our school to conduct a meditation

session(Stress Management and Balance through Yoga) for the teachers.

May 28 - 30

· DPSN Swimmers won 3 Golds and 1 Silver at the Sub Junior U.P. State Swimming, 2016,

organised at Sigra Stadium, Varanasi, U.P.

May 28 - June 4

· Muskaan Gabra of class IX attended a regional PASCH Summer Camp for German

learners of different schools from South Asia, organised at Colombo, Sri Lanka. This camp

was not only a platform for cultural exposure but also for refreshing the German language

skills through language classes, workshops and other fun filled activities. The highlights of

the camp were workshops on environmental issues and creativity. The student from DPS

Noida was accompanied by Mrs. Manpreet Kaur of the German Department, DPS Noida ,

alongwith German teachers from other Pasch Schools.

May 28

· Three teachers from the Political Science, Chemistry and Maths department respectively

attended the Selection Committee Meeting at DPS Indirapuram.

May 30

· 14 students participated in a Radio Show 'Salaam Success' - a talk show about CBSE

toppers of class X at Radio Salam Namaste, IMS College.

· Mr. Rajesh Upadhyay HOD of Western Music Department attended a Selection

Committee Meeting as Subject Expert at Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj.
