During one of the Circle Time sessions children were asked the problems they face while coming to school. At this time majority of the children did not like the chaos and the confusion which was created due to traffic.

1. There is a lot of traffic jam outside our school. – Anika

2. There is nobody to guide the traffic. – Daksha

3. While coming in the auto we hear a lot of honking. – Nandini

4. Autowala has to come out and shout at others to move from the road. – Chirayu

5. People blow a lot of horn. – Niharika

6. When we are stuck in the traffic we feel hot. – Manmeet

Children were asked solutions for the traffic problem outside our school premises:-

1. I will cross the road on the zebra crossing (which we should paint). – Eshan and Arpit

2. Traffic policeman should be there outside the school to guide the traffic. – Araf

3. We should put ‘No Parking’ boards. – Tanmaya

4. We will take one big car and three friends will come together. – Kshitij

5. The gates should have arrows of left and right and vehicles should follow it. – Lamiyah

Children took the initiative and with the help of the teachers painted two NO PARKING signs outside the school gate.

Another group of children painted the zebra crossing on the main road of our school with the help of teachers.

The cars parked next to our compound walls created the traffic jam.

• Children spoke to the parents and requested them to start carpool to send their children to school.

We have around 900 children studying in our school. We had sent the attached notice to the parents. Some of the parents were very positive and have promised to start using the system of carpool in order to save fuel and save our environment. We hope to bring a change in almost 900 families in some time.

MOTHER’S PET KINDERGARTEN (6.10.10)Dear Parents, The children of KG II are working on a project called

‘Design For Change’. They are trying to tackle the traffic outside the school and at the same time trying to encourage parents to start car pool to save fuel and our environment. Parents are requested to try and work out a system from each one’s residential area wherein they could have a carpool. We anticipate a good response.

Thanking you, From: MOTHER’S PET

KINDERGARTEN

As a part of it, our little children felt that they could even bring a smile on the face of less privileged children.

During one of our regular Friday activities, the children made Diwali cards by using old magazine pages and

sold them to the parents to collect money.

MOTHER’S PET KINDERGARTENKG – II NOTICE (30.09.2010)

Dear Mummy & Daddy,This week is ‘Joy of Giving Week’. We want to be a part of this noble endeavor and would like to ‘Design for Change’.We felt that the traffic problem outside our school premises was affecting everyone. So, to regulate the traffic and to inculcate self-discipline in auto/van drivers and parents, we will be placing placards and signs at certain points. We would also like to collect money by selling our hand made cards and use the money to distribute books to a school in Khairi village. So, please come to the school basement on Friday (01.10.10.) at 12.45 p.m to buy my cards which you can send to my friends or relatives.

• The money collected was used to give books, water-filter and Indian toilet seat to a school in Khairi village on the outskirts of Nagpur.

• The children of the school were thrilled to receive around 200 books of various subjects.
