Increasing the Heart Failure Nursing Workforce

RecommendationsThe BSH Nurse Forum recommend a minimum increase in the number of heart failure specialist nurses in the range of 2–4 whole-time equivalent per 100 000. This would allow greater savings due to increased admission avoidance.

We recommend that the Cardiac Networks of NHS England, Scotland, Wales and the Health and Social Care Executive of Northern Ireland join together to undertake a robust piece of work exploring the numbers of heart failure nurses needed to treat the rapidly increasing number of patients.
