St. Patrick’s Catholic Church  Third Sunday of Easter, April 10, 2016

    Dear Parish Family:

    Seek to love others unconditionally,

as God loves us. This is the focus we

should meditate on today as we seek to

find meaning from the Scripturereadings in today’s mass.

We have all been in a situation where we have

been deeply hurt, or have greatly hurt someoneourselves. Either side of the coin, there are very

powerful emotions. On one side there is remorse

and guilt; on the other, hostility and resentment.

When we end up in such situations, we often timesare tempted to give up on those relationships. We go

into “avoid mode” to protect ourselves from further

damage, or we may have feelings of righteousindignation, becoming stubborn and refusing to

move even slightly toward reconciliation. We may

have a strong urge to give up, to surrender to

despair. Giving up, however, can be the work of thedevil. Giving up was how Satan tempted Jesus when

He was out in the desert, and it was the last

temptation Satan hurled at Jesus as He hung dyingon the cross.

God, however, never gives up on us, even when

we’ve turned our backs on Him or betrayed him.

Peter denied Jesus three times before our Lord’scrucifixion. In today’s Gospel, it is quite clear that

Jesus has not given up on Peter as our Lord offers

him the opportunity to answer our Lord thrice abouthis love for Jesus.

“Unconditional love” is something we’ve all

heard about. We have heard about God’sunconditional love. This type of love is something

we want to give to our children, our spouses and

family members. Too often we fall into attaching

conditions on our “love.” This is why we need to

seek God’s forgiveness today, so we might have the power to forgive others as He has forgiven us.

Without God’s power, unconditional love is hard

and likely not attainable. But with God’s love and power, all things are possible – even loving

unconditionally, even not “giving up” on them.

“Jesus, you are the perfect image of the Father’slove. I praise you with my whole heart, and I

     surrender my life to you.”

    Deacon George

     Deacon George Schramm

    Querida Familia Parroquial:

volteamos nuestra espalada. Pedro negó a Jesús tres

renunciado a Pedro.

nuestros hijos, a nuestros cónyuges y familiares. A

y yo entrego mi vida a ti”.

    Diacono George

If we ask for God’s forgiveness,

God is ready - no, eager - to give it to us.

One of the best ways to experience God’s forgivenessis to go to confession. For many people, this is not an

easy choice. We tend to be lax about encountering our

own failings, and telling them to someone else-

especially in an official capacity - can be embarrassing

and uncomfortable. Yet the priest in the confessional is

speaking Jesus' words of absolution to us – withoutrancor, without judgment, and with every hope that

our cleansing will help us become more aware of

    God’s love within us.

    The

    Doors

    of Mercy are Open

Ponder How long has it been since my lastconfession? Am I ready to go and

    hear God’s forgiving words?

Pray Lord, help me find the courage to meet You in the confessional so

that I may be healed and forgiven for all the ways I have neglected

You when I have neglected others. And, help me to do better. Amen.
