I studied domestic abuse against women with a specifc end goal in order to attempt
to raise national awareness. As my chosen area o abuse is domestic violence against
women there will probably an age range o 16 and onwards. There really isn’t a
precise age range or domestic violence it can happen to anyone. The age rating or
my short flm is 15. ased on my chosen area o abuse I believe that there really isn’t
a particular class it points towards to. !owever" i I had to be concise and relying on
my research it would mainly point towards to the lower middle class and s#illed
wor#ing class$ %1 and %&. 'a(ority o my audience would probably be women as it ismainly ocused on them.
I have chosen to go or domestic violence against women because it’s the most #nown
topic that is not only still ta#ing place but in act based on stats getting worse. )omen
are regularly in great threat" however" it is usually ta#en place inside the amilies. *or
some" +home+ is the place where they conront a regime o ear and savagery due to
an individual who is close to them , an individual who should have the capacity to be
-trusted’ . Those victimised endure physically and mentally. They cant ma#e their own
choices" voice their own opinions/belies or save themselves and their #ids inspired by
a paranoid ear o urther repercussions. Their human rights are denied and their livesare ta#en rom them by the ever0present danger o violence.
very good short flm inorms and e2press the pain and point o view o the victims
who has gone and who are undergoing this pseudo process. Through my flm" I want
to ma#e a visual statement that will grasp the eyes o the public and e2press the pain
on behal o the women who undergo this disturbing process. I eel that women who
are unortunately going through this condition need to be ocused more in the public
eye. 3ersonally" I eel that because this topic is very common and all round well #nown
people don’t ta#e it seriously anymore and it has come to the state where individuals
thin# that it is wrong to interere in people’s personal lie.
I will be emphasising the brutality o domestic violence against by pro(ecting the
reality o women who undergo this process and the situation o the loved ones" or
instance" the children who su4er rom this as well. the symptoms o domestic violence
comes in the orms o psychological trauma" depression" an2iety" chronic atigue that
could also lead to an attempt o suicide. )omen who are ortunate enough to escape
rom this usually end up with a really bad scar$ mentally. ome even stay in a trauma
and never come out o it. ased by the statistics 1 in women will endure 7omestic
8iolence in their lietime" and on average two women get #illed each wee#. The *orced
'arriage 9nit :T*'9; acted in response to 1<=5 reports o li#ely *orced 'arriages in
&>1>$ but based on urther research it has been increasing since.
In order or the message to be clearly pro(ected" the audience should be able to
completely grasp the earnestness o the circumstance and should be able to
understand the conse?uences that could possibly impact on their children lives. The
flm is a chance or me to educate mothers who are not only worried about them but
who are also passionate about the up0bringing o their children. This flm does not only
go or women who are married" but also inormative to women who are dubious about
their partner or their relationship on the whole. Through this way they will be able to
save/prevent themselves getting into situations li#e the victims did.
The main characters in my short flm are@ mi#e :the abuser;" veronica the mother" and
the children$ niall and nina :victims;. The school teacher and the policeman :helper;
are the supporting roles who really brings out the purpose o this short flm. ina’s
class teacher :miss adriana swanepole; involves in this story when she starts to get

suspicious about nina’s bad school report and as well as niall’s. This leads to the point
where the policeman :mr royce cruise; is involved due to nina’s school teacher.
'i#e is an e2ample o why many women around the world su4er in their relationship.
!e is a controlling" possessive and manipulative man who abuses his wie or his
pleasure. This character reveals the true picture o how ruthless and aggressive an
abuser can be. This can be a wa#eup call to women to stop themselves rom alling or
men li#e 'i#e. 3eople li#e 'i#e wal# around the world wearing a aBade$ this is how
they lure women into this type o situation.
8eronica is a normal housewie who gets brutally abused by her psychotic husband
and li#e any abused women she is very insecure and timid. !owever" she has that tiny
source o courage that #eeps her going through all this pain. 9sing a character li#e
8eronica I want people around the world to realise how awul domestic violence can
be" so then people would actually visualise the pain and not (ust hear about it and
orget it the ne2t minute. The character o the children in the narrative will help me
achieve this urther by guilt tripping parents who do not really ta#e their children into
account and instead being selfsh and thin#ing about themselves only. !owever"
based on the truth children who end up in these type o situations are a4ected in asignifcant way. This will defnitely touch the hearts o the audience. Coing by the
narrative" the children are struggling to hide what is happening in their amily but
soon reveal it to their teacher. This is the spar# that leads to an end o all bad.
The supporting roles in the narrative are the ones that really alter the story and brings
the flm closer to reality and ma#e people realise what is the right thing to do when
they #now someone who might be in a situation li#e 8eronica. 'iss Adriana wanepole
is a character who really cares about the well0being o the children. )hen she tries to
help ina :her student; to spea# up about what is happening" she soon discovers the
reason behind her absences and tries to fnd a way to help them out o their situation. The policeman :'r. Doyce; is the spar# that ends to all bad$ he shows the happy
ending that all ">>> women who die each year should have had.
The initial conEict is started by the man" when 'i#e wanted 8eronica to ulfl his
stereotypical ideas about women. )hen 'i#e tries to orce himsel upon 8eronica she
reuses" which gets him aggressive as a result. 'i#e is very old school and believes
that women should be at home to ta#e care o the man and the children" however in
modern society most women go to wor# and have very less time to ta#e care o their
amily. This is what causes the conEict as 8eronica strongly disagrees with what he
believes. This is a airly common occurrence in relationships" however in some cases itescalates into a conEict i one o them reacts with anger. Fi#e anyone would" 8eronica
reacts with anger and threatens 'i#e. Typically" men start getting very controlling and
possessive when the emale stars threatening" this then triggers them to abuse. The
typical ?uestion that everyone as#s is that -why do people become batterersG’ There
is no single e2planation behind or abuse. 8iolence is a method or attempting to
practice power and control over another person. umerous batterers were casualties
o abuse as #ids or originated rom amilies in which spousal abuse was common. It is
essential to recollect" nonetheless" that not all individuals who were casualties o
abuse as #ids will transorm into batterers. !owever" in my narrative 'i#e is heavily
a4ected by his childhood memories which creates him the monster to be. I will beusing the techni?ue o fash orwarding whenever there is a scene o 8eronica and
'i#e having an argument" this rom 8eronica’s point o view. ased on 'i#e’s actions$

which eventually gets worse" the vision will get stronger$ meaning that the result o
the conrontation would have an intense e4ect.
)hen it comes to ma#ing a short flm on topics li#e this" there will be a ?uestion o i it
might be one sided. ased on the act that I am a girl" there will be chances o me
being one sided as I am pro(ecting it rom the women point o view. As I am ocusing
on 7omestic 8iolence against )omen" it purely portrays the man as the abuser.
!owever" in some cases it does happen vice versa. 9nortunately" we still live in a
society where women are still seen as the most vulnerable" powerless and valuable.
'y story fts into the belie o our society" meaning that the audience might leave with
a one sided opinion. As because it is not rom the man’s point o view. It’s mainly
based rom the women and children point o view. ven though the entire flm is
depicted through the eyes o a emale" there will be a situation o why this had to ta#e
place$ meaning that there will be a chance or the man to spea# up or himsel. The
Eashbac# will be the #ey to this. They are the only proo that tells the audience how
and why it started. This will also give the audience an idea o how couples get into
situations li#e this" in reality.
I have not ollowed the typical structure template" instead I have decided to mi2 thescenes up a little bit by using the techni?ue o Eashbac#s and Eash orwarding. There
will be Eashbac#s when iall and ina fnally open up about their ather’s abuse to
their teacher. 7oing this will also help the audience to understand how it all began and
when the children start realising what was happening.
The inormation o how it started will be told rom the inormation that will appear
during the Eashbac#. As it e2plains how everything started" what the children
remember and was told by the mother. This can cause audience biasness as it is
through the eyes o the victims. *rom the Eashbac# scene onwards there will be an
increasing orce o what might happen ne2t and will ma#e the audience eager to #nowthe ending. It will be clear that the teacher is going to help f2 their problem" but what
obstacles would she need to ace frst in order to achieve itG In some cases there has
been events where the abuser has even #illed or hurt the helper. o the upcoming
obstacles that Adriana will ace can ma#e the audience suspicious and ?uestion them
o whether the mother and children will be sae" and what conse?uences might the
teacher ace or helping themG This can relate to real lie and give the audience a
vision o how things can be changed or the victim’s lie (ust by an act o #indness.
I want my flm to end on a good note so it will create a positive energy within the
audience. The flm is about how one good deed can help someone$ this indirectlypoints out to the audience. I want people to be aware o what is going on around them
and be more caring about others and be helpul. o matter how bad the problem is
you should be able to help someone$ even (ust by tal#ing to them and giving them
advice. The answer is not given straight away as it wouldn’t get the message out to
the audience" ma#ing the audience an2ious is the #ey to accomplish this. The ending
o the flm should not create a one sided (udgment as it would demolish the whole
purpose o the movie. I want the ending to be a balanced yet a ?uite orceul
message" so it would imprint in the audience’s mind$ preventing them rom going out
with a one0sided opinion. 'y main aim is when the audience come out every single
individual should have that passion and determination to help someone. It doesn’thave to be something ma(or" it can be as simple as holding the door open or
someone" or help someone who is unable to carry something. In order to remove a
mountain the #ey is to start carrying away the small stone" and just do small things

with great love and let people #now that one may wal# the tallest mountain one step
at a time.
*or my orm and style I would be using low and high angles in order to ma#e the
victims loo# vulnerable and rail and the abuser to portray a monstrous eel towards
the audience. The use o ma#e0up will ma#e the characters loo# more realistic and will
naturally ma#e the audience to imagine the awul images the victims would have
gone through" and how an abuser would loo# li#e :portrayed to be;. In addition to this"
the lighting also plays a ma(or role while crating a movie. 'a(ority o the scenes
would be shot in low #ey lighting to set the atmosphere in motion and within the
audience. *rom what I have researched and the things that I thin# would be essential
in order to produce a short flm" it all rounds up to H&>">>>.
The illustration above shows my total summary page and I have included the
e?uipment’s that I will be using in my short flm and the cost or hiring the actors.
*or the crew hire most crew hiring company are titled or H1>>> or more. !owever" I
ound a website that o4ers a flm crew or a one day shoot$ or H>>. And based on
the act that I am flming a low budget short flm" meaning that the number o
members in my crew is constrained. I have selected the specifc crew that will be
needed mostly" this includes@
• 7irector@ )riter and 3roducer
• 7irector o 3hotography
• 'a#e up/!air Artist
• pecial e4ects crew
• ound recordists
*reelance Actors !ire
I ound a lin# that provides me with actors with di4erent s#ill set or reasonable prices.
!owever" unortunately I couldn’t fnd any children hiring companies or websites due
to security reasons. 'eaning that I will have to specifcally hand0pic# the child artists
which is also helpul in a way" as it would help me to identiy the ones that have the
talent to bring out the character that is needed.

In conclusion" apart rom the transport acilities or the actors" hiring o the childartists" and the location ees everything else has been sorted out. !owever" these
delays can be planned out in no time as long as there is no complications with the
location and that the cast can reach the location in time. electing the child artist can
be ?uite tric#y as there are a ew ormalities that have to be flled out frst" and it
could ta#e time. ased on my calculations the budget o my flm could be more than
enough i careully spent" avoiding any delays and mista#es.
