Inception Trend Summary
Sat 24 July 2010
Since the release of the film Inception, featuring Leonardo Dicaprio it has been one of the most popular topics in social media amongst my group of friends (18- 35 yrs) and worldwide.
I noticed the hype around it when I daily was checking out facebook and twitter, continuously seeing updates from people on my news thread. This made me not only very curious to see the film, but I felt pressure to keep in the know how.
Doing a bit of a dig online I found out on…
it is one of the most popular topics currently pg 3-4
people are posting their thoughts, which spark conversation pg 5-6
people are searching for “Inception” and posting about it on blogs (which is expected with any new release) pg 7-8
These findings confirm that twitter and facebook are popular platforms for people to voice their opinions and to ignite conversation. Also, once enough activity is generated people in an online community become conscious of new trends or changes occurring (e.g. when Michael Jackson passed away or Inception was released).
People are communicating about their experiences through social media and sharing information with another. For brands, if they create something worthy of sharing and talking about people will pick it up and want to share it. There is an opportunity for ideas, campaigns, content to grow organically, reaching the masses while successfully communicating a message or changing perceptions E.g. Old Spice and the Fun Theory has been viewed by millions.
