In what ways does your media product use, develop/ challenge

forms and conventions of real media products?

Codes & Conventions Used In Our Video (Editing)

We used jumpy, quick cuts between the beginning shots to create a fun, pop style effect. This also reflects the opening of one of Kate Nash’s other videos “Foundations”. The timing of the cuts is in time with the beats of the opening tune. We chose not to use objects for the start as this would be copying Kate Nash’s video too much.

We used stop-motion images to create a continuous movement. This is also used in Kate’s video “Foundations”. We chose to make the pearls break from the shape of a heart to represent Kate’s heartbreak. Which is also shown in the “Foundations” video by the socks moving apart.

Codes & Conventions Used In Our Video (Camera Work)

We used close- ups and straight shots. Linking to Kate Nash’s personal friendly style, the audience feel closer to her.

Interesting camera angles (over the shoulder, high angle). When Kate turns her head to sing to the camera it is like she is talking to the audience who are with her. It is like a secret.

Use of two-shots. Shows the relationship between Kate and the guy she likes. Guy never looks at camera, like only Kate can see the audience.

Codes & Conventions Used In Our Video (Performance Elements)

Kate sings directly to the camera, direct address to the audience. Makes it more personal.Dancing/Spinning throughout the video, relaxed choreography. Dance sometimes relates to the song/ atmosphere.Use of acting/ narrative performance. This makes it look like it is a story of her life.

Codes & Conventions Used In Our Digipak (Images, Editing)

The same theme runs throughout the pages of the digipak, links them together. Shows they are part of the same product. Recognisable to the audience.

We used the same image for the magazine advert as we did for the digipak cover. Same as Kate Nash’s- Made of Bricks album.

Codes & Conventions Used In Our Digipak (Fonts)

There is use of the same childlike, fun, handwritten font throughout, continuity. Relates to Kate Nash’s carefree style. She mainly uses black or white colour on the text, it is simple and easy to read against the background.

Codes & Conventions Used In Our Magazine Advert (Mis En Scene/ Layout)

Name of artist and album, when its out and a review. Artist name larger than rest of text, main part of the advertisement, draws audience attention to the advert.House in the background. Like a dolls house and she is the doll. Childlike. Seems as though she is in her own world.Artist image at the front.

Shows she is the most important and is recognisable to the audience. There is the same image used

on the magazine advert as on the digipak/ album cover, continuity, recognisable. Easy for the audience to find the CD they look for the same image on the cover.

Codes & Conventions Used In Our Magazine Advert (Editing)

The image of the artist edited onto the image of the house/ garden. This makes it look like she lives in the house. The artist has been brightened, to make her stand out against the background. The audience’s attention is then brought to her.

Use of cartoon style effect for the background, this relates to Kate’s style and to the rest of the album designs.

Cartoon, unrealistic style background. This is Kate’s style (cartoon, fun, unrealistic.)

We changed the hue/saturation of the background to make it seem more unrealistic and fun.
