Saffron Masterman, Isabella Devine, Casey Flior, Emily

Evans, Corey Last, Andrea Esposito and Jamie Gavin.

Other sporting honours include:

Zac Sapsford won the award for Maccabi Club Junior

Sportsman of the Year (2017).

Every year that Zac played for his club he has been the

Golden Boot and in most years he has been the top

goal scorer in the whole competition. He is both a lead-

er of his Futsal team, a coach for the younger players

and hero for all the players of the Club.

Page 2: IN THIS ISSUE: @Reddamreddamhouse.com.au/PDF/2018/High/HighVol18Issue16.pdfning silver in the Commonwealth Karate Champion-ships. He has since competed 4 times for Australia, with

Yonatan Freund won the NSW Jewish Junior Sportsman

of the Year (2017) for his Karate.

Yonatan commenced karate at the age of 5 and start-

ed competing in the local State Tournaments from the

age of 9. After a few years, he joined the State Karate

Team, where he has competed in the Nationals for the

last 5 years. In 2016 he joined the Australian team, win-

ning silver in the Commonwealth Karate Champion-

ships. He has since competed 4 times for Australia, with

the highlight being the 2017 World Championships in

Spain. In 2016, Yonatan become a Black Belt, part of

his long term commitment to the sport. In 2017 at the

Junior World Championships, Yonatan won his round 1

fight but lost his 2nd. He won gold at the Australian

Open and silver at the Australian Championships.

On the cultural front, it has also been a busy week.

The Percussion Competition was held this week with

adjudicator Andrew Dickeson joining us. He was de-

lighted to be with us and commented on the excellent

tone production of our students, their confidence and

stylistic playing.

In the High School, Sammy Shafir was awarded 3rd

place, Reuben Glasser placed second and the gold

medal went to Oliver Pires.

What I enjoyed, besides the quality of the drumming,

was the backup performances of the band and vocal-

ists.

My thanks to Chloe Parche, Scarlett Turnill, Sohan Ge-

ronimo, Liam Wright, Adam Petrovic, Ariel Pacanowski

and Sacha Styles who supported the competitors.

I am happy to report that the new Elite Concert Band,

directed by Courtaney Wood, received a Highly Com-

mended in their first outing in the Sydney Eisteddfod.

The band performed at the Chatswood Concourse

Concert Hall on Tuesday evening. This is a whole school

auditioned band that was created in Term 4 last year.

Well done to them and to Courtaney.

Our Junior Dance Company competed in IRBD - The

Dance Challenge on the Northern Beaches on the

weekend and we are very proud to say that they were

awarded Highly Commended! The section included

some tough competition from 14 other schools and our

students performed beautifully. It was so nice for them

to be acknowledged amongst such a high calibre of

performers. Well done and thank you to Emily Knight for

all the hard work she has put in with this fabulous

group.

Our Year 10 Debating team made it through to the

Eastside Debating Semi-finals held at Reddam on

Wednesday evening. Though they lost to Sydney Girls,

they maintained such an optimistic and professional

attitude. Their positive demeanour really stood out

amongst many of the other schools.

The team of Emily Wang, Ronaldo Keng, Geraldine

Yang and Gabriella Gottlieb can be commended on a

tremendous season.

India Week has been in full swing this week with curries,

samosas and mandalas accompanied by henna

painting, cricket and a music festival being the culmi-

nation of an exceptionally busy week.

The musicians included Chloe Parche, Scarlett Turnill,

Sohan Geronimo, Liam Wright, Adam Petrovic, Ariel

Pacanowski, Sacha Styles, Martin Dreyer and Reuben

Glasser with Noah Melamed and Miles Bornman ensur-

ing the tech side of things was faultless.

In other news, the lost property cupboard in Mrs Kar-

ney’s room is overflowing. She has watches, jewellery,

computer pens, clothing that is not named and quite a

few mufti casual jackets, jumpers, water bottles, lunch

boxes and pencil cases. No one is claiming them be-

cause she thinks students are too lazy to look.

Next week the Junior Executive will help her set up a

table at recess and lunch on a day they will advertise

to the students where they will be able to purchase

unnamed goods but also look for their own things.

Mrs Karney has also started a process of getting stu-

dents to mark their jumpers so that when they are

found/lost they can be returned to the rightful owner.

Her investigation has revealed that 80% of student’s

jumpers are not marked.

The next two weeks in the build up to Half Yearly Exami-

nations are reasonably quiet and event free, so that

students can focus on their preparations.

Have a good week,

Dave Pitcairn

YEAR 10 LINO PRINTING

This term, Year 10 have been experimenting with lino printing. This has included the various stages of sketching,

carving and printing in order to create beautiful works. As this is a new form of artmaking for many of the students,

experimentation and creative thinking has enabled them to go beyond their own artistic knowledge and skills.
