It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden, unexpected passing of Frank Settino, a long time employee of Tyco Security Products.

Strengthening our Partnership with Defender and ADT ADT and their reseller, Defender, represent a significant channel to market for many of our intrusion detec-tion solutions. In order to strengthen the relationship amongst all parties, senior leaders in all three busi-nesses – ADT, Defender, Tyco Security Products – have been holding regular unification meetings. These meetings provide an opportunity to coordinate product development, review roadmaps, and work through any challenges at a senior level so they can be resolved swiftly. By streamlining our processes, and agreeing to priorities, we can ensure a healthy pipeline for products like Impassa and our PowerSeries communicators. ✦

Mike Ryan

Spotlight on our new President

Momentum: Welcome to Tyco Security Products, Mike! I know the TSP employees are eager to learn a bit about you, so can you give us just a short overview of your background?

MR: I grew up in Guilderland, New York (near Albany) and went to Cornell University and earned a degree in Industrial and Labor Relations. I also received an MBA degree from Clemson University. The first 13 years of my business career were spent in the computer manufacturing industry with NCR Corpora-tion and Unisys and held my first position in HR and then moved to Operations. I joined AlliedSignal (who later merged with Honeywell) in Commercial Avionics and spent 11 years in a variety of Operations and Gen-eral Management roles including their Specialty Materials group. I joined Scott Safety in 2007 as VP-GM located in Monroe, North Carolina near Charlotte.

Momentum: You’ve obviously had great success with Scott Safety. Are there processes or best practices that you think will easily transfer to the Security Products business?

MR: The first thing to say is how distinctly different Scott Safety is from Security Products even though both divisions are owned by the same parent company. Each company needs to have their own unique formula for success which is responsive to rapidly changing business conditions all around the world. That being said, two critically im-portant leadership responsibili-ties are developing and nurturing the right culture and work envi-ronment and explicitly detailing and communicating business strategy. Employee engagement has always been a priority for me and I expect that will con-tinue at Security Products. I will also spend significant time over the next nine months learning the Security Products business and working with the leadership team to further develop business strategies for each of our lines of business.

Momentum: What are you looking forward to most in your new role with TSP?

MR: The Security Products business has demonstrated a strong capacity for growth over the past three years and expectations from Tyco’s Board of Directors and Senior Leader-ship is for that growth trajectory to continue. I am excited for the opportunity to lead a technology based growth company with great potential and opportunity to be a significantly larger busi-ness and industry leader. I very much look forward to meeting the Security Products team and being part of a successful organization.

Momentum: Can you give us any insight on your life outside of work?

MR: It is important to me that I maintain good balance between work responsibilities and my personal life. Leading two significant global businesses is obviously very demanding and so at times, it can be challenging to maintain this balance. That

being said, I am more effective at work when I maintain good balance and find time to devote to activities outside of work. My family life is very important to me and next year my wife Gail and I will celebrate 30 years of marriage and we have three grown children. I like to read and keep current on global business, social and political events. I am especially interested in books on leadership and effective ways to engage and motivate people. I have always been a sports enthusiast and maintain a daily fitness routine. My favorite sports activity is golf and like a variety of outdoor activities in my spare time. ✦
