From the President’s Desk
As the colder months are settling in I am sure you have all been dusting off and oiling up the clippers to keep the winter
coats at bay. I have several that have coats as long as a highland cow and we have had a very mild winter to date in
Queensland.
It has been a time in the limelight for the breed with 30% of all entries at the Badminton Four Star Horse Trials being
Irish Sport Horses with the winner being Australian Sam Griffiths riding his 10 year old Irish bred mare Paulank
Brockagh by the great showjumper Touchdown. In what was described as a gruelling four star course, three other Irish
Sport Horses finished in the top ten including Australian Paul Tapner on Kilronan finishing fourth and New Zealander
Tim Price finishing ninth on Ringwood Sky Boy.
I hope you all had a chance to view the six-page Irish Draught and Sport Horse feature and advertisements in the June
Horse Deals featuring our new logo. We are also pleased to announce that we will be participating at the Total Equine
Queensland to be held at the Toowoomba Showgrounds on the 27th
– 28th
of September. It has been a busy year on the
Queensland eventing calendar with strong representation of Irish sport horses and I am sure they will feature well at the
Melbourne International Horse trials which is being held over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
Please keep us informed of your activities we are always keen to hear what is happening with your horses.
The IDSHS Committee has been busy working through an array of tasks behind the scenes and have scheduled a full
days meeting in Melbourne later this month to work through an extended agenda designed to address and reach
agreement on a number of policy and administrative matters, I would like to in advance thank the committee for their
generous time and personal commitment to attend this meeting.
The best of luck and safe riding to every one competing out there and don’t forget,
“For the ride of your life ride Irish!”
Yours sincerely
Paul Gummerson
President IDSHS (Aust) Inc.
The next scheduled committee meeting will be on Friday 20th
June in Melbourne.
If any member has any matter they would like discussed, please send your proposal to the Secretary.

Vale Eireann Cormac – Irish Draught Stallion
2002 – 2014
On behalf of the Irish Draught and Sport Horse Society (Aust) Inc. we
would like to offer our condolences to the owners and connections of
Eireann Cormac ID.
We were saddened by the news of the passing of the lovely stallion and
hope they will find some comfort in the success of his progeny. His
legacy will continue on through them.
The loss of a valued stallion is heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with them
during this difficult time.

Eireann Rose ISH by Eireann Cormac owned by Stacey Fyfe
I purchased Rose (Eireann Rose) as an unbroken 3 year old filly back in May 2011. In February 2012, she was taken to
the breaker. I had done a lot of the ground work with her, so it was really just to finish her off, (mouthing & backing).
I have had an enormous amount of fun with her, but Rose has also been very successful. She has won her Ridden Irish
Draught or Sport Horse mare class at the Melbourne Summer Royal for the last 2 years. I have taken her Trail riding, to
pony club and she has won Dressage events, Combined Training and Horse Trial competitions.
Her temperament is amazing. Last year it was an honour to be selected to be the youngest horse and rider
combination of six Irish sport horses to bring the Melbourne Cup through the rose garden an into the mounting yard
prior to the running of the 2013 Melbourne Cup. I can honestly say she did not put a foot wrong.
List of Some of Rose's achievements include
* First ridden @ summer Royal Irish draft or sport horse mare 2013 & 2014
* First Grade Four Barry Hillier Horse trials 2013 & 2014
*First Led Irish sport horse mare Lancefield Ag show 2013 an Champion led Irish Sport horse
* 3rd Mansfield Pony Club super cross 2014
* 6th Grade Three Riddles Creek Easter Horse trials 2014
* First Grade Three Dressage only Lancefield Pony Club 2014
* Second Grade Three Combined Training Lancefield Pony Club 2014

Mr McGuinty ISH and Laura Kellond
"Mr McGuinty" is pre-registered
with the IDSHS, he is by "Eireann
Cormac ID", gelding rising 3 years
old, Foal Date 29/8/2011. He is now
standing 16.1 hands, not yet started
under saddle. I purchased Guinty on
the 16/7/2012 at the age of 11
months. Since owning him he has
been such a pleasure to have, he has
got the most beautiful temperament,
could not wish for any better, he is
very bold, fears nothing and very
easy to handle, all he wants is to be
around you and loves the attention.
Peyton ISH and Marissa Morrison
The beautiful filly, 'Peyton' by Eireann Cormac ID is owned by Marissa
Morrison of Victoria. Shown here at the 2013 Melbourne Summer Royal
where she went on to win Champion Junior ISH.
A few words about Peyton hmm... superb temperament, an absolute
pleasure to do anything with, takes everything in her stride (like she's been
here before!), intelligent, personality plus, calm, dependable, agreeable,
extremely sensible, cheeky, playful, everything Irish I guess, and a spunk
too :)
Belsize Willam Elder ISH and Julie Monroe Wittaker
I first met Cormac in 2009 in the middle of breeding season. After going
down to check out my mare and look at some of his foals. I had passed him
sleeping in a corner of his paddock next to a few mares and could not believe
he was so relaxed! After 10years in the race horse breeding industry I was
amazed and knew I had made the right choice of sire and breed. I had selected
him for his height and impeccable bloodlines for a maiden tb mare; I wanted
temperament, bone, power and trainability. In 2010 I got a scrawny little grey
foal which I was teased about by my tb breeding friends, well for the first
week anyway! He grew fast and put on bone and muscle. At 2yrs I decided it
was time to break him in, I was a little
bit nervous, I have only ever broken in
tbs and you just can't tell from the
ground what they will be like to ride. Well there was no need for that, I put in the
roller and did it up, no reaction, put a bridle on, and no reaction. Clicked him up
to a trot, and he happily moved. Right must be he's waiting for me to mount and
then I will get fireworks. I mounted he turned his head looked at me chewed on
my boot. That was the extent of his bad behaviour at breaking. I now have a
second Cormac out of an Arab mare who is exactly the same; I can't wait to break
him in! I think Cormac was one of the most under rated sires in the IDSHS, I
have a beautiful Kilharken filly and I can honestly say that the Cormac foals are
on par if not quieter and have much more bone.
I had hoped to send 2 more mares to him this year; he will be sadly missed by all.

Mack ISH, Bridey ISH and Mandy Davies
I am lucky enough to have two of Cormac’s progeny. Years ago when I
was contemplating buying a Warmblood, a friend told me about a stud
selling ISH’s as she had previously bought one and was very impressed
with the temperament of her horse. I visited the stud and fell in love with
a hairy black weanling colt by Cormac out of a Clydie cross mare. When
visiting Cormac he was so laid back and relaxed, one of the best natured
stallions I have ever come across. I was impressed with all the progeny
and have to admit that another grey mare caught my eye and I was
tempted to put her in the float too. As it was, a year or 2 down the track
I was so impressed with my black gelding, Mack, that I phoned the
owner and asked if she was still selling her, and thus I ended up with my
2nd
ISH, Bridey. Mack has been left a bit longer to develop but is
currently being broken and his trainer is so impressed with his laid back nature and personality, even if she did have to
get a special bridle to fit his huge head. Bridey is going to be my daughter’s
future competition horse. She is a special horse who once again has the most
amazing temperament. She also shows amazing jumping ability and a real
workman like attitude. Everyone who meets them loves them, especially
Mack, as who doesn’t love a black horse with 4 white socks who looks like a
giant pony. I have never regretted not buying a WB, or purchasing either of
these horses, and only wish I had owned Irish horses years ago.
Tullow’s Jumpin Jack Flash ISH and Peta Elstrek
I love my Jack pony, he has heaps of ability & I think he will go a long
way in eventing & dressage which are my passions (& so does my
dressage coach - she thinks a lot of him). He has the biggest heart &
lots of character & a great trainable brain. He is always waiting at the
gate which I am convinced he's waiting to see me but deep down I
know he's probably waiting / hoping for food!!

Kalimna Sorrento ISH and Kalimna Stud
Sorrento's first ever show was the Summer Royal 2013 as a 3yo (nothing like
throwing them in the deep end!) but Sorrento took it all in her stride and was
perfectly behaved. By Callaghan (ISH) out of a Tb mare, Kalimna Sorrento is a
great example of the Irish Sport Horse, lovely top line, lots of bone, super
temperament and trainability to match, now just 4 yrs old here she is showing
off that great level headed Irish temperament competing at her 3rd ever ODE to
finish on her dressage score and place 3rd
.
Cushavon Beauvara ISH and Vicky Hanson
Cushavon Beauvara shines again! First ODE for the season at Fig
Tree Pocket we led from the dressage phase to win the Prelim
class. Shrek was relaxed but attentive in the arena and did a lovely
test. He ate the cross country in the time allowed and showed a
clean pair of heels in the showjumping phase.
The following weekend at Burpengary we returned to Pre Novice
grade. Our dressage was good except the pilot had TWO errors,
tut tut and this relegated us to 4th
. The cross country had been
upgraded and was really a rider course with lots of questions,
related lines and
bright new fences. I began conservatively until we were safely over
our nemesis the upright apex. This caused many eliminations so it was
a relief to have this fence in our wake. We sped on after this for a good
clear but a little outside the time allowed. However going into
showjumping we were holding our 4th position and even with a rail at
the first, we held on for 4th at the finish.
Looking forward to another start at Fig Tree at the end of June and
State Champs after that.
Eventing in QLD
Well it’s been a busy couple of weeks for the Cushavon horses with
some great results at Figtree ODE and Burpengary ODE. All the
horses competed well at FTP with clear showjumping rounds for
everyone and a 6th Place for Awesome Edna (Cushavon Ego Magic
ISH) and well-earned 3rd place for Cushavon Jitterbug ISH and
Anthony Cruickshank.
Burpengary saw three Cushavon horses in the top five in the pre-
novice with a 5th place for Cushavon Isabeau ISH, 4th for Vicki
Hanson and the beautiful Cushavon Beauvara ISH and a fantastic win
for Cushavon Jitterbug ISH and Anthony. Cushavon Cuchulain ISH
and Katrina Bull also placed 5th in the Snr Intro and the amazing
Patchaliscious (Apache Storm ISH) placed in the Jnr intro too.
We are so happy with all the team and horses at Cushavon Park!

Melbourne International Three Day Event June 2014
Werribee provided its usual variety of weather over the five days of the event, but this is only to be expected in June.
This year the organisers made some radical changes to the location of both the dressage and the jumping. Instead of the
Three Star and Two Star Dressage and all the Jumping being in the Indoor Arena they were held on a grass arena on the
Polo Field. The arena – 90 metres by 80 metres - was surrounded by a white plastic fence and temporary stands on two
sides and provided an excellent turf surface. The start, finish and first and last fences of the cross country also used this
area. Although some horses were confronted by driving showers in the Dressage most had reasonable winter weather.
The Cross Country and Jumping were blessed with largely sunny winter conditions with virtually no wind.
Irish Sport horses were not as numerous as in some years, however, there was some
real quality in the performances. In the CCIJ* two of the twenty six starters were
ISH. Sarah May and left: REVELIN by COOSHEEM LIAM finished in 3rd
place on
their dressage score with a lovely clear
round in Jumping – only the winner and
Revilin jumped clear.
Dylan Smith and right: DANROSS
SHENANIGANS MIST by
KILHARKEN were 11th
. In the CCI* of
the seventy three starters only two were
ISH - Sonja Johnson and ESB IRISH LEPREHCAUN by ESB Irish Descent
was 8th
and Yona Lloyd and BALLAHOWE PARAMOUNT by Son of
Kilharken was 57th
.
The CCI** had thirty nine starters of whom five acknowledged ISH in their
breeding. This is where the real Irish star appeared. The winner Gabrielle
Pither from WA rode left: MAX ALMIGHTY to finish on their Dressage
score. They completed their clear jumping round knowing that their lead was
less than one point! Nailbiting and brilliant. MAX ALMIGHTY is by the
superbly bred thoroughbred Aly Kingston (Alydar /Rose of Kingston) out of
the KILTOGHERT CASEY Sporthorse mare Florence Court. Gabrielle and
her father have done virtually
all the work with this horse
that they bought as an
unbroken youngster. Jaimie
Stichel and Image Blue Ice by
Kirby Park Irish Jordan placed
10th
with only 0.8 time in cross
country to add to their
dressage score. Rebekah
McDougall and ESB Irish
Patience by ESB Irish Edition placed 25th
.
In the CCI*** of the twenty starters three were ISH. Rohan Luxmore and
right: BELLS AND WHISTLES by ARD BLACK CAT placed 5th
following his win in the CCI** last year. This is another horse that has
been competed from the start by his rider/owner who is a practicing vet.
Tarryn Proctor and ESB Irish Quest placed 9th and Tania Harding and
Jirrima Yorkshire placed 11th
. Isabel English and the amazing Connemara
FELDALE MOUSE placed 7th
– one rail in jumping their only jumping
fault.
