Season’s Greetings fellow NCMA members,

Another year of great successes has passed and a promising new year awaits. There is no better time to embrace the gift of life, to show gratitude towards loved ones and to renew resolutions as we embark on the new year's journey. As we look forward to the new year, I pray for greater successes for all of you and renewed strength for all the hard work you will undoubtedly put into new endeavors. Make 2018 your best career year

Many people start to reflect on their life at the start of a new year and think of

things that they want to improve in the next year. Many people think about losing

weight , eating better, but 9% of people surveyed stated that they wanted to find a

better job in 2018.

If you are looking to improve your career in 2018, the Sacramento Chapter is

offering many events this year to help you accomplish this resolution. Some of the

events are quarterly networking, lunch and learn, and full day contracting

workshops. Did you know that 80% of people newly hired are based on network

connections? Make the resolution to attend one NCMA networking event next

year, this could lead to your next big career move.

Employers are relying on NCMA certifications to identify prospective employees

with experience and expertise. The NCMA Certification Program is designed to

elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance, and designate

those who demonstrate knowledge essential to the practice of contract

management. NCMA’s annual salary surveys have found that NCMA-certified

contract professionals earn an average of $10,000 to $25,000 more per year than

their uncertified colleagues.

Certified Federal Contracts Manager Exam

At the request of members, the chapter will be hosting a CFCM

Exam on February 27, 2018 from 1-5pm. Due to exam

requirements walk-ins are not authorized, members must

register 45 days in advance by January 12, 2018 with the

NCMA HQ’s at [email protected].

Eligibility requirements:

A degree from a regionally or Distance Education Accreditation Council (DEAC) accredited institution at the bachelor's level. Non-degreed candidates with at least 10 years of verifiable contract management experience may request a waiver. Degrees from outside the United States must be evaluated by an independent third party, such as World Education Services, Foreign Credits, Credit Eval, Info Check USA, or SpanTran.

One year of work experience in the contract management or related field. A minimum of 80 hours of continuing professional education (see our Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Guide for details).

March 2018 National Education Seminar The chapter has invited Dr. Rene Rendon, CPCM, CFCM, CPSM, PMP to return to teach the

March 2018 NES workshop. There will be a guest speaker, Dr. Juanita Rendon, CPA, CPE to

teach Cost Estimating and Contract Pricing.

The NES will be held March 29, 2018 from 8am—5 pm.

2018.

Q: I am interested in writing an article for the NCMA national

magazine, how do I submit my article for review?

A: Contract Management Magazine welcomes the submission of original articles on contract management best practices, case studies, problems, insights, applications, and letters to the editor. As a contract management professional, your best practices, lessons learned, and personal experiences on the job can be valuable to readers. We accept articles on a rolling basis. Read our Editorial Guidelines to learn more! What should I write about?

Check out our 2018 Editorial Calednar to see the topics of upcoming issues. Other common article topics include, but are not limited to alternative dispute resolution, commercial contracting, environmental contracting, IT/digital services, education, grants management, healthcare contracting, international acquisition, program management, project management, small business contracting, state and local government contracting, ethics, and professional development. Articles that promote a particular company, product, or service can be published as a Sponsored Perspectives column. The length of your article is up to you. Our feature-length articles range from 1,500 to 4,000 words. Our departments/columns range from 500 to 1,500 words. We prefer to receive feature-length articles, but we're open to short, column-length articles as well. How do I submit an article?

Submit your manuscript as a Microsoft Word document to NCMA's director of publications and editor in chief, Kerry Hansen, at [email protected]. Articles are evaluated based on readability, soundness of content, timeliness, and interest to our readers. We also consider whether you support your ideas with concrete examples.
