YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATIYOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION …ON …
Young children learn many important things before they start school for the first time. They bring to the classroom all the learning they have done at home, with their families
and carers, from the time they were born.
Kindergarten is an important start to a child’s journey in school where children learn key skills that will help them throughout school and life. Pre-primary builds on the skills, processes and knowledge introduced in Kindergarten and this lays the foundations for
future years as they start to learn in more structured ways to prepare them for Year 1.
Experiences at school are about exciting, stimulating and inspiring children to learn. Our Department of Education provides a variety of resources to support families as their children commence in the early years of their education. Please visit the
YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION website for further information.
NAPLAN TESTINGNAPLAN TESTING
Our Year 3 and 5 students will be sitting for the National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests in Week 3 of Term 2 (week commencing 9 May). These assessments cover reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar & punctuation) and numeracy. This is a one off test which provides information (what we do well and what we need to improve on) to our school (and system). This information is used, alongside other data, to guide future planning for the students in our
school.
I would like to advise parents to be cautious in their use of extra NAPLAN preparation style texts on top of homework already set for students. Increased pressure on some students will outweigh the positive affect. I would encourage you to discuss any issues/
ideas in regards to this testing with classroom teachers.
A parent information brochure has been forwarded home today to the parents of
students in years 3 and 5.

Triple P is designed to give parents the skills they need to raise confident, healthy children and teenagers and to build stronger family relationships. Triple P doesn’t tell people how to parent. Rather, it gives parents simple and practical strategies they can adapt to suit their own values, beliefs and needs.
Parents of children aged 3-8 years have been invited to attend these sessions at Arbor
Grove PS. Further information is available on the flier attached to this newsletter.

Due to the ongoing growth in student numbers at our school, we have made some minor changes to the presentation of honour certificates at our fortnightly assemblies. Our honour certificate recipients will have their name and year level read out and the certificate will be presented by a member of our Administration Team. Celebrating the reason/s why the certificate has been received will be followed up at classroom level. The Aveley Informer will now highlight the recipients of the Honour Certificates with celebration of achievements for Mathletics and Reading Olympics

SCHOOL PHOTOS SCHOOL PHOTOS
Our school photo day is coming! Today every student will receive a Kapture Photography order envelope. The recommended method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture’s website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time. Alternatively you can pay by cash and return the provided envelope to the school on the photography day. If you place your order online please DO NOT return your envelope to school.
Any parent who forgets or is unable to supply their envelope on the photo day will have five (5) days to complete an order online. Late payment envelopes cannot be accepted
by the school office or by Kapture.
You also have the option to order a sibling photo package online, however please be aware there may be a limited number of sibling orders that can be placed due to time constraints on photo day. We suggest you place your online sibling order as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Sibling photos for those with Kindy students will be
taken on the day your child attends for Kindy.
All students will be photographed individually on photo day for school administration records AS WELL as included in their class group photo available for purchase to all families. Should there be any reason
why your child should NOT be included in the photo shoot –please contact the school office.

WHOLE SCHOOL MATHS CWHOLE SCHOOL MATHS CHALLENGE! Y1 HALLENGE! Y1 –– Y6 TUESDAYS 1:40 PM.Y6 TUESDAYS 1:40 PM.
Each Tuesday afternoon will see the whole school ‘battle it out’ against themselves, to achieve
their personal best score in a 4-minute basic multiplication fact challenge.
We are now into week 3 of the challenge and are already seeing students making wonderful progress! Having a solid understanding of the basic multiplication facts gives all students a strong basis of understanding on which to build more complex mathematical concepts later in the school
year as well as in the years to come.
Why not take some time to practice with your child at home using the ‘Times Table Toons’ on Mathletics? These funky songs
can be found by following this link, or scanning the QR code:

ANZAC SERVICEANZAC SERVICE
This year we will be holding our ANZAC service on Thursday, 7 April at 9:00am. All children from Pre Primary through to Year 6 will be involved in the service. The service will take place in the same time as assembly normally occurs, to try and maximise the opportunity for family members to attend. Nearer the date you will receive a letter asking for plants and flowers to be brought in the day before the service to enable us to build our wreaths, and of course a request for volunteers to help make them. We will also send out information for parents to the school asking them to send us information on family members who
may have served.
