SALAS AGM (Annual General Meeting )

The Annual General Meeting was held on 11th April 2013, from 6:30 to 9:30pm at Heritage Palace, 21 Tan Quee Lan St, #02-08. The event was a success despite low members attendance. A total of 22 members were delighted for a sumptuous dinner and raffle draw event. The event was highlighted with the election of new Treasurer, Dr. Shiela Margallo to take over from Dr. Leslie Retnam. Proposed changes to the constitution was postponed for the next AGM due to insufficient voting members.

JALAS (Japan Association for Laboratory Science)

International Award

The 2012 prestigious JALAS international award has been awarded to Singapore and SALAS representative Dr Tan Bao Zhen. Dr Tan obtained her BSc and PhD from the National University of Singapore. She has also recently obtained the Gold Award for Swee Lee-Wadsworth Research Awards for manuscripts published FY2011/12, NUS, June 2012. She was honored to represent Singapore during the JALAS annual meeting held in Tsukuba, Japan on 15-17 May 2013.

The Singapore Association for Laboratory Animal Science (SALAS) is honoured to host the Asian Federation Of Laboratory Animal Science Associations (AFLAS) 7th AFLAS congress in 2016. SALAS will turn 12 years in 2016 and we have the honour to host the congress to showcase our achievements in the region. Hosting of this 7th AFLAS congress will also bring multiple benefits to the profession and industry.

An experience of learning, sharing, enchantment, exhilaration, friendship, inspiration, jubilation and sophistication awaits all in this garden city – state, the safe destination in Asia. SALAS Family Day Held on the 9th of March 2013, SALAS members and their families had a fun-filled day at the Science Centre with our compliments. 8th SALAS Annual Regional Conference

The 8th SALAS annual regional conference was held from 15th-16th November 2012 at Holiday Inn Atrium, Singapore. The theme was Diagnostic Imaging for Translational Research. A total of 200 delegates attended this 2-day event. The event attracted companies and trade exhibitors dealing with life sciences and biomedical industry from the region and outside Asia. Local companies who have been very supportive for this event also participated. A poster exhibit highlighted this event with a total of 8 posters submitted. Three (3) of this posters were chosen for 1st, 2nd and 3rd award. The poster exhibit was judged by Dr. Montip Gettayacamin and Dr. Diana Scorpio.

Past events...

The winners for the poster presentation are: Tendy T.V. Cheng, 1st Place from SICS, A*Star; Dinesh Babu KR, 2nd Place; and Toh Alden, 3rd Place, both from Temasek Polytechnic.

Upcoming Events/Conferences...

This conference will be held in Perth from September 4-6 2013. Support letter from ANZLAA (Australian and New Zealand Laboratory Animal Association) was obtained during the AFLAS Bid 2012. We hope to send a SALAS committee representative to attend the said conference for networking to attract Australian delegates. All sponsorship, big or small are welcome and will be much appreciated.

The 9th SALAS Annual Regional Conference 2013 is tentatively scheduled on the 1st week of December 2013. Details of the date and venue to be confirmed. Information for this conference will be posted on SALAS website at www.salas.sg
