The Estill County Tribune, October 9, 2013, Page 7 Times Remembered Betty A. Young [email protected] Every year we try to get away for a weekend on our anniversary. This was our 27th wedding anniversary. Hard to believe, time passes so fast. We decided to go to Brown County, (Nashville) Indiana. I had heard so much about all the great shops and things to do there. We were tired of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg; so we decided A Weekend In Brown County, Indiana to head north to Hoosier Country. It’s not a bad drive; it takes about three hours. Brown County’s color- ful leaves and rolling hills draw thousands of visitors each fall, making autumn an ideal place to visit for leave watching and for festivals. People just love being out- side. Brown County offers many outdoor festivals for people of all interests from motorcycles and mountain bikes to good music and good food. I made reservations at the Artist Colony Inn the week before. The inn was very quaint; but nice. The furnishings were Shaker style with a pencil post bed and pegs to hang your clothes on, located around the wall; which was differ- ent. The room was small but offered adequate space for one couple. Each room was dedicated to a favorite art- ist that had spent time there painting. There are many places to stay such as the Abe Martin Lodge, The Brown County Inn, The Nashville House, Orchard Hill Motel, The Village Motel and the Cor- nerstone Motel to name a few. There are also log cab- ins to rent at Brown County State Park. We spent most of Satur- day visiting as many shops as possible and I don’t think we covered them all. My fa- vorite part of the town was Antique Alley where origi- nal crafts were created by Brown county craftsmen. Items included beautiful pottery, leather goods, such as hats, handbags, moc- casins and accessories and handmade jewelry. Of course we also en- joyed the Carmel Corn Cot- tage that featured caramel corn, kettle corn and cara- mel delights. Bob just had to get caramel corn! We took a train ride around town and they also offered carriage and trail rides. We ate lunch at a spe- cial place that was Bob’s favorite . . . The Sandwich Shoppe, owned by Bobby Knight’s long-time friend. It was in a basement deco- rated with Indiana memora- bilia. Bob was brave enough to wear his UK blue in the Hoosier den! He got some stares; but he didn’t mind. He even asked the waitress why there wasn’t any Ken- tucky Blue on the wall; she just laughed and took our order; no comment. I bought things for the kids; Colton got clothes from the Nike outlet nearby in Edinburgh and toys from The Toy Chest. I found Tara a UK top on sale at Foxfire & Foxfire. All UK shirts were on sale. We had a great time and made many special memo- ries. If you ever get a chance to go to Brown County; I would recommend it highly. 1. It was a crowded Sunday morning wor- ship service when the pastor reminded his congregation of the church prayer meet- ing. Unfortunately, only two members came: the pastor and the three-hundred pound church janitor. The next Sunday the pastor informed his flock that there was a “large and enthusi- astic crowd” at prayer meeting. The janitor became upset and accused the pastor of lying. “But,” protested the pastor, “I did not lie. You’re large and I’m enthusiastic.” There are times when we twist the truth to make our- selves or others look good or bad. Some- times we offer a lie as an asset but it always proves to be a liability. There are times when we stretch the truth but it will always snap back and hurt us. One translation of the Bible puts it this way: “Stop lying to each other; tell the truth” when we lie to each other we are only hurting ourselves.” T1484 - Oct. 9, 2013 Visit usat SowerMinistries.org Plans are being made at South Irvine Christian to form a GOSPEL MUSIC MINISTRY to perform concerts for charity. Gospel musi- cians/ local churches are encouraged to participate. Tentatively, the first concert is scheduled in November at South Irvine Chris- tian Church for the Estill County Food Bank. For more information, contact Johnetta or a member of South Irvine Christian Church. Second Marriages by BOB CASEY, Preacher, Church of Christ In the Hebrew letter chapter 13:4, the writer states this: “Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled, but whore mongers and adulterers God will judge.” So in the content of this verse there can be no mis- understanding as far as God putting His approval upon the marriage of a man and a woman. In the garden when God brought Eve unto Adam they were counted as a mar- riage. Not an Adam and Steve, or neither an Eve and Es- toria, but a man and a woman only. All of this other stuff is to dishonor God and their own bodies. Romans 1:24 couldn’t be plainer. But the main thing I want to point out in this article is a great majority of men and women are giving up on their first marriages in great numbers. So when this happens it simply means that someone is sinning against God. One of the saddest of all cases are, some may be married two or three times and they de- cide that they want to obey the gospel, be recognized as a faithful church member even though the marriage that they are presently in may be an adulterous affair. Let me say clearly, one will never receive the approval of God, unless they quit this adulterous union and sadly remain single for the duration of their lives. According to the word of God, marriage can only be terminated through death (Romans 7:1-3) or if one of the partners in a mar- riage commits fornication or adultery. Matthew 19:3-9 is so clear on this that one would have to be completely without any reasoning to misunderstand it. I will note at this time that fornication is when a married person has an illicit affair with an unmarried person. Adultery is com- mitted when a partner in a marriage becomes involved with another married person. There is another thing that is troubling to many churches, and this is when a partner in a marriage dies, so that the first marriage is over at the death. Many times (and I am writing to confessed Christians), a Christian will get involved with someone else who may not be a member of the church of the Lord, and desire to marry them any way. In this I will make no apologies for the word of God, because in His word I Corinthians 7:39 carefully consider, “The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth, but if her hus- band be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will: “Only in the Lord.” This means that if a Christian that has lost their mate in death and desires to contract another marriage, God says: Only unto another Chris- tian. Sadly, many have not read for themselves and are presently in a situation that God not approved of: if not, why not. Visit with us at the church of Christ located at 262 Broadway . We will gladly study the matter with you. Sincerely, Bob Casey, Waco 1-859-369-4165 The annual Stone Reunion was held at Clay City, Kentucky, on Sunday, September 20, 2013, with the following in attendance from out of state: Rick Richardson, Bob & Betty Ruth, Indianapolis; Glen Richardson, Louis Richardson, Walter & Nora Horn, Franklin, In- diana; Jeff & Helen McDonald, Dayton, Ohio; Jr. Stone, Clearwa- ter, Florida; Diane Rhinehart, Law- renceburg, Indiana; Doretta Sexton, Brookville, Ohio.
