This week’s spotlight
shines brightly on Brett
Bailey. Brett is a senior and
is a member of Sr. Beta
Club and the Youth Adviso-
ry Board. He enjoys partici-
pating in cross country,
track, andband, as well as
working at Federwild Plantation. While being in-
volved in extracurricular activities, he still maintains
all A’s while taking AP classes. His biggest influence
is his grandpa because he gives Brett good advice
and motivates him to strive for the best. After gradu-
ating from high school, he plans to attend Georgia
Tech and become a mechanical engineer. Good luck
in all your endeavors, Brett!
This week’s spotlight shines brightly on junior, Allison Culpepper. Allison is a
member of FFA, 4-H, and FFCLA where she is the President. In her
spare time she likes to play softball, partici-pate in pageants such as Teen Miss Georgia
and Southland’s Am-bassador. Her biggest influence is her mother
because she leads her in the right direction and keeps her motivated. After high school, Allison plans to attend VSU and obtain a
Masters in Early Childhood education and a Minor in Educational Leadership; her future plans are to be a teacher. Good luck, Allison!

The Pelham Rotary Club is sponsoring a job shadowing opportuni-
ty for seniors. Let Mrs. Prince know if you are interested in sign-ing up for shadowing. Available slots are filled on a first come, first served basis. Shadowing opportunities are available at the
following local businesses: Randall Chew Attorney-2 students, Mitchell Country Chrysler- 3 students in sales and service depart-ments, Georgia Power – 1 student in office, 1 student with a lineman, Beall Tire- 2 students in sales/warehouse department.
Participants will attend the Rotary lunch meeting at Pinecrest Country Club on Friday, October 31st to share their job shadow-ing experience.
Cats often rub up against people and furniture to lay their scent and mark their territory. They do it this way, as
opposed to the way dogs do it, because they have scent glands in their faces.
Please support FCCLA by contributing to the Second Chance Animal Rescue located in Cairo known as S.C.A.R. This is a no kill rescue
shelter and operated totally on donations. FCCLA asks that each stu-dent bring in at least one item for the fundraiser. The 4th block with the most items on October 1st will win a pizza
party. Donations must be brought into Mrs. Prothro’s room! The items needed are as follows: dog food, cat food, treats, collars, blankets, leashes, ect. FCCLA does not require you to be in the club to donate items. All donations for S.C.A.R. go
straight to the cats and dogs who need them. Please give generously!
On September 16, 2014, Mrs. Brinkley’s Young Professionals ninth grade class was fortunate to have Mrs.
Lorenda Smith, Pelham Banking Company’s Marketing Specialist, visit. The students were studying
the unlimited career options available to them when they grad-uate high school. Along with an informative Power Point, Mrs.
Smith discussed the various jobs of banking, the skills required to perform these jobs, and the certi-
fications needed to hold them. Following the presentation, Mrs. Smith was gracious in answering the many questions the students had about banking. Many thanks to Pelham Banking Company for partnering with Pelham City
Schools in educating our students.

Quotes of the Week
Shadow Day Experience Guest Speaker—Mrs. Smith
The Twins of the week are Talia
and Tamia Hallmon. They are
juniors and participate in the
same sports. They both are in
Beta Club and in FCCLA. You
can basically say that they do
everything together. Tamia is the
oldest by an hour and five
minutes and sometimes it
doesn’t not seem that way, be-
cause sometimes you can’t tell
them apart. Even though, they are sisters they are also best friends
and no one can change that. They confide in each other all the time
but they also argue but who doesn’t. Finally, they hang out with the
same people all the time. Tamia and Talia are always together and
they feel it should stay that way.

Seniors, place your orders for Pizza Hut during all three lunches through
Wednesday, Oct. 1. Senior lunch is Friday, October
3; do not be left out!
On September 24, the Pelham high cross country team traveled to Colquitt County to compete in the packers practice meet. The course was very flat
with little to no hills, and the weather was classified as “good running “weather.
As a result to these perfect running conditions, nearly the whole team beat their personal record, and Coach
Cochran could not be happi-
er. “I am very proud of my team. They put forth a
huge effort at the Colquitt county meet and with nice cool weather nearly all of them either ran
their personal best times or career best times. Also, I’m thankful that they behave so well on our out of town trips. The cross country team will
travel to Pebble Hill to compete in the Thomas-ville Invitational on Saturday September 27.
Cross Country
On Monday September 22nd the soft-ball team went up against Berrien
County and faced a hard loss. Then on Tuesday September 23rd they went up
against Early County and came up
short of a victory. When we asked softball player Jasmine Wood how the team prepares for a game
she responded, “Pray, huddle, and chant.” She mentioned the hardest challenge of this season
was “really good teams and batting.” When asked what she felt the team’s strong point is she replied “fielding the ball.” And finally, we asked how the Lady Hornets prepare before upcoming games; her
response was, “hard work and lots of practice.” The Lady Hor-
nets have been putting forth all of their effort to improve their weak spots and continue to get better each game. Whether they win or lose, they try their best and come out as a winning team.
