in ivory snow. And to make it a picture perfect moment, a quick saunter around the premises reveals the magnificent Himalayan peaks in all their glory and the Doon valley nestled amongst snow covered peaks. Heritage HouseBuilt by Captain GN Cauthy, Rokeby Manor is a prestigious landmark at Landour ridge. Like most houses and quaint cottages in hill stations, this heritage building’s name is taken from the writings of Sir Walter Scott, whose book-length poem describes heroic battles fought near the original Rokeby Castle in England.Today, Rokeby has been carefully restored to its original glory, oozing with character, with elaborate brick arches, intricate stone walls, wooden floors and beams, and cosy old-school fireplaces.

reigning roomsHere, the lounge is open round the clock and lends itself to just cuddling up with a good book and a hot cuppa. If company is what you seek, simply strike a conversation or two with fellow holiday-goers or just snuggle up with your better half next to the charming fireplace.At the Manor, every room seems to casts a spell... From the Valley Views rooms (Acorn and Fern), Rustic rooms (Chestnut and Daisy) to the the Stars and Moon room. But our favourite, as hard it was to choose, is the Rhododendron Suite, with its elegant and oh-so-very luxe interiors. This Victorian style suite has its own fireplace and a private balcony which offers the mindblowing view of the valley and Rokeby’s Tea Garden below. We also loved the Rose Suite — a whimsical room with high ceilings adorned with teak beams, a fireplace and old-school stone-clad walls.

Surrounded by a two acre estate, the Manor is situated

to the east of St. Paul’s Church and the old cantonment parade ground, now called

Char Dukan.

gourmet graceEmily’s — the manor’s gourmet restaurant — serves Continental and Indian fare, along with a certain sense of nostalgia! With over a century old décor plates on the wall and a scenic view, it leaves one speechless, not just with the cuisine but also with the ambience that it creates. And yes, if you can brave the chill and the wind factor, do try dining under the moonlit sky for the ultimate experience of being one with nature!
