Welcome to Target Field! Target Field played host to 30 exchange students from Deyang, China participating in the Lakes International Language Academy (LILA) “Welcome Friends” program. The students, all of which were attending their first baseball game, received a special welcome and were featured on the scoreboard. As part of the “Welcome Friends” program, the students took English classes at LILA and also went on various field trips with other LILA students, including the Twins game. Twins Director of Diversity Marketing, Miguel Ramos, was an honored guest at the farewell picnic for the students. The Twins were honored and proud to play a role in LILA’s “Welcome Friends” program, which was created to build a spirit of global-mindedness in the community and create lasting international friendships. Diversity Networking Event Over 100 community members and professionals gathered together for the Twins 5th annual Diversity Networking Event at the Metropolitan Club in Target Field. The continued goal of this event is help bring together community members and business leaders alike to network with one another and build a stronger, more connected community. The event, emceed by Lea Hargett, President of the Minnesota Black Chamber of Commerce, included speeches by Raenell Dorn, Twins Vice President of Human Resources and Diversity, and Dr. Abdul Omari, Founder of AMO Enterprises. To end the program, the Twins presented Mario Duarte a lifetime achievement award for his work and impact in the Latino community. To enjoy a video recap of the event, click here. Minnesota Twins Celebrate Diversity Day at Target Field Fans in attendance on Diversity Day at Target Field were treated to a night full of music, dancing, and baseball! As fans entered the stadium, they were welcomed with music from a variety of cultures. Additionally, the Twins celebrated the different cultures that make up Twins Territory by inviting several different pre-game performers to partake in the festivities. Performers included Tropical Zone, Darnell Davis and the Remnant, Hmong Community School of Excellence and DJ Angel. In the Legends Club, there was a display from Green Card Voices where guests could read various stories of the immigrants in our state and watch their videos online. The pre-game festivities culminated in an on field parade of community members throughout Twins Territory. Last season, Rosario started the season with the Fort Myers Miracle and was later promoted to AA New Britain. In his 87 games between both levels he hit .243 with 20 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 40 RBI and 45 runs scored. The Puerto Rican outfielder was invited to Spring Training this season and made his Major League debut on May 6 where he hit his first major league home-run on the first pitch of his first at-bat, becoming the first Twins to do so. Since then, he’s been a key aspect of the Twins outfield defense in left field and is hitting .280 with five home runs, 24 RBI and nine stolen bases.
