Rick Shonkwiler participating in the ground breaking for the church in Sidalaghatta in 2012

GROUND BREAKING FOR NEW CHURCH IN INDIAOver the past 35 years, Christhia Seva Mission has planted 13 churches and built 7 church buildings in the state of Karntaka, India . . . and the work continues to grow. On August 27, Becky Bennett, Charlie Eger and Nathan Hinkle will travel to the mission to represent White Oak at the ground breaking and cornerstone laying for yet another church building.

The church meeting in Peresandra began in an old chicken processing plant. In just a few short years they had outgrown that building and plans began to purchase land and build. That process was speeded up when the owner of the property did not renew their lease. The church of over 400 people is currently meeting in a temporary shelter on the property the mission purchased last year. They are anxious and excited to begin work on their permanent church building.

White Oak is partnering with Worthington Christian Church to build the church building which will cost about $75,000 to complete. Representatives from White Oak and Worthington will travel to India in January to see the progress of the project.

Please be in prayer for Becky, Charlie and Nathan as they travel and encourage our staff in India.

Serving in HaitiReflections on

God puts together amazing teams! The White Oak teamthattraveledtoHaitiinJulyconsistedofpeo-ple from age 16-65, a mother and son, 2 fathers and sons, cousins, an engaged couple, 7 teens, 5 dads, 2 moms and 2 people from Ireland. Not your typi-cal group! But when God puts together the group, amazing things happen!

Thefirstofmanywonderfulexperienceswaswor-shipingwithHaitianbrothersandsisters.“Althoughwe didn’t understand the language, the obvi-ous presence of the Lord was there,” said nursing student Kara Toerner. Worshiping in that church building was a particularly poignant moment for Bill Haussler and Gary Schroeder who had helped in the construction of that very building in 2003. Bill re-flected,“ItwassomethingtoseeitcompletedandfullofHaitiansworshiping.”

TheteamwasinHaititoworkwithourmissionpart-ners, Brent and Anna Fudge. Brent began going to Haitiwithhisfather,Bill Fudge, when he was a teen-ager. Those experiences began a lifelong passion forhelpingothers.In2013theFudgefamilymovedtoHaitiandbeganworkingwithorphans.Ourteamgot to meet and interact with children from two

orphanages--LighthouseChildren’sHomeandHarvestCareChildren’sHome.Theyreceivedanoverwhelming welcome from the kids and devel-oped relationships that will last a lifetime.

On Monday the mission team did a prayer walk that included the two orphanages as well as the HaitiEarthquakememorialwhere200,000victimsare buried in a mass grave. “Both the prayers at the memorial and each orphanage were powerful moments where God presented himself to us,” re-flectedPam Heinrich. After spending group time in prayer, theteamhadatimeofpersonalreflectionand silent prayer. Then each team member took a stone from the ground and placed it on an exist-ing mound of stones left by earlier mission groups. Team members agreed that it was a powerful and emotional moment.

Tuesday dawned hot and full of promise. The team headed to Cite Soliel, a severely impoverished neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, and split into three work groups. The “tablers” were assigned the task of building two picnic tables for the orphan-age. The “duggers” began digging a hole for the foundation for a kitchen. And the “tuskers” were in

charge of playing elephant tusk tag with the children. “We got a lot of work done despite the heat,” said recent high school grad, Will Haussler, “and we had a chance to make a stronger connection with the orphanage for Back to Back Ministries. God is very much working in the lives of these children and their caretakers and is usingustoshowHisgreatlovetothem.”

Wednesdaymarkedthemid-pointofthejourney,butthingsdefi-nitely did not slow down. The group spent most of the day in intense sweat with few breaks. “It was incredible to watch the cohesion be-tweentheprofessionalHaitianswhohelpedustodayandourWhiteOak group working like a machine despite the communication difficultywithournewHaitianfriends,”saidIrishmanJamesWilson. The team worked at tasks they had never attempted before -- mixing and pouring concrete by hand, crafting rebar and other construc-tion-relatedprojects.Eachtaskwasmetwithenthusiasm!

After a hard day of labor on Wednesday, the group took a trip to visit another of White Oak’s long-time mission partners -- Haiti Outreach Ministry led by Leon Deorleans. Dozens of White Oak’s menhaveworkedonchurchbuildings, schoolsandclinicsatHOMover the years. The team visited the construction site of a new high school. “There was a three story high monument to construction done right in a third world country,” is the only way James could describeit.“Itwasimmaculatelycleanandbrightlycolored.Every-one was in awe.” It will be exciting to see what God does through that new school!

ThelastfulldayinHaitiwas, inaword, HOT! The team spent the morning doing projects at Back to Back’s new building that will house groups and interns. The guys painted and dry-walled while the girls prepared for a party for the orphans that night. At the party the kids got to make shirts, do crafts, take photos, swim and play games. “It was a great way to end an incredible week of serving thebeautifulpeopleofHaiti,”summedupfirst-timer,Joe Cheek.
