Farmers will never be too big for their boots as they put their best foot forward when they’re wearing Skellerup’s new Red Band leather work boots.Red Band gumboots are such an icon they are part of the rural landscape and this month the Red Band family expands with the launch of the leather work boots.Four styles of the work boots have been designed specially for the tough, rural conditions in New Zealand—slip-on or lace-up versions and safety or non-safety models, to boot.

Field trials over the last 18 months have involved farmers across the country stepping up to any challenge in the leather work boots. CanterburycropandsheepfarmerNeville Moorhead gave the boots a good work-out during the lambing season. “These boots are great to wear. They are supportive all round and the elastic on the slip-on stays tighter for longer,” Moorhead, who farms near Leeston, says. “The boots are lightweight and easy to wear all day,” he says.

Dry stock farmer Steve van der Valk, of Cambridge, isconvincedtheleatherworkboots are the best boots he has ever owned.“They didn’t have to be broken in like other boots I have had. Before long they just felt as though they were part of me,” van der Valk says.“The work boots have fantastic grip on all the surfaces I work on. I absolutely love ‘em.”Farmers who take the next step in a pair of Red Band work boots in October and November can enter a fantastic competition for three Suzuki King Quad 400 two-wheel-

drive bikes worth $10,000 each.It is easy to enter Skellerup’s prize draw, simply click on to www.redband.co.nz and write in the purchase details.Another bonus for competition entrants is a 15% discount voucher for a pair of Red Band gumboots. Purchasers just need to enter the quad bike draw and a voucher will be automatically emailed to them.Sheep farmer Brian Holley has already been won over. He tried the slip-on work boots at his farm near Kerikeri in the Far North.

“These boots have been fantastic on all the land I work on. They are probably the most comfortable work boots I have worn,” Holley says. “They have very little wear considering the amount of use I have given them. The work boots also give great support, especially for a slip-on boot.”Skellerup National Manager Perry Davis says farmers have been asking the company for some time to introduce a Red Band leather work boot and it has listened.“Red Band work boots have been tried and tested in all types of farming conditions and we are very pleased with the results. “We have taken the time to get it right, almost over-engineering all aspects of the work boots from the triple-stitched, glued seams to the 1000-Neuton breaking strain laces,” he says.All-in-all, these new boots are as tough as old boots.
