We are saddened to report the death of Kevin Mark Keymer, age 72,

who passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 12, 2018 of metastatic

lung cancer. Services were private, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery

in Annandale MN on August 15.

Born January 1, 1946 at Fort Riley, KS to Mark and Dorothy (Greve)

Keymer, Kevin grew up in Minneapolis and Hopkins MN, and graduated

from Control Data Institute, and the University of Minnesota Institute of

Technology where he earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He

married the love of his life, Chikako Oku, in Osaka, Japan, on October

22, 1977. They resided in St. Cloud, MN.

Kevin had a lifelong career at Malco Products, starting in the Tool-and-

Die Department and Manufacturing Engineering. In the mid-1970’s he wrote cutting-edge sales

and marketing software, allowing the company to increase its leadership and dominance in its

field. He was a company owner and board member for over 40 years, and along with his three

younger brothers, recently achieved their goal of converting the company to employee-owned and

controlled.

Kevin possessed a unique technical genius—there was virtually no mechanical, automotive,

electrical, electronic, or digital device that he could not understand or troubleshoot. As a faithful

Catholic, he combined his beliefs and his God-given talents in a life of generously and tirelessly

helping others—often by repairing or building things. He could see value in everything and found

it difficult to waste anything. Over the past 25 years, Kevin donated his time writing software, first

for Guiding Eyes for the Blind in New York, followed by the International Working Dog Registry. This

database for guide and service dog organizations around the world enables breeding healthier and

more confident dogs and is advancing the field of genetics. His talents will be sorely missed.

Survivors include his wife: Chikako; brothers: Gerry (Mary Ellen) of St. Cloud MN, David (Carol)

of Plymouth MN, and Paul of Clearwater MN; and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in

death by his parents and infant sister, Marsha.

The Rhode Island SkillsUSA® Sheet Metal Champion stopped by the Malco booth in Louisville. She was now competing at the SkillsUSA® National Leadership and Skills Conference and was proudly toting the Malco STKMRBP Tool Kit awarded to her at the State Level.

Malco Tool Kits awarded earlier to SkillsUSA State Champions provided a dominant Malco presence in the Sheet Metal Competition area at the SkillsUSA® National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, KY.

TOP WORKPLACE IN MINNESOTA

Malco Products, SBC has been named one of the top work places in Minnesota by the

Minneapolis Star Tribune. A complete list of those selected is available at StarTribune.com/

topworkplaces2018 was published in the Star Tribune Top Workplaces special section on

Sunday, June 24.

Produced by the same team that compiles the 27-year-old Star Tribune 100 report of the

best-performing public companies in Minnesota, Top Workplaces recognizes the most

progressive companies in Minnesota based on employee opinions measuring engagement,

organizational health and satisfaction. The analysis included responses from over 71,000

employees at Minnesota public, private and nonprofit organizations.

The results of the Star Tribune Top Workplaces are based on survey information collected by Energage, formerly Workplace Dynamics, an

independent company specializing in employee engagement and retention. “We are grateful to our employee owners and the Star Tribune

for this recognition” said Mardon Quandt, Malco president and CEO. “To be named a Top Workplace in the state of Minnesota is testimony

to our ownership culture, engagement, organizational health and satisfaction of Malco employees.”

Star Tribune Publisher Michael J. Klingensmith said, “The companies in the Star Tribune Top Workplaces deserve high praise for creating

the very best work environments in the state of Minnesota. My congratulations to each of these exceptional companies.”

Malco Products, SBC, based in Annandale, Minnesota, is the nation’s leading manufacturer of high-quality, American-made tools for

professional use in the HVAC, exterior remodeling, fence, deck and rail installation, and autobody industries. Backed by more than 68 years

of history, Malco manufactures products

that are built to last, rigorously tested

and backed by a lifetime warranty.

Malco is proud to be employee-owned

and a Specific Benefit Corporation in the

state of Minnesota, a legal designation

that indicates that a specific social

benefit — employee ownership,

keeping jobs local and strengthening

communities — is the primary driver

of Malco’s business decisions. For more

information about Malco Products, SBC,

visit www.malcoproducts.com.

To qualify for the Star Tribune Top Workplaces, a company must have more than 50 employees in Minnesota. Over 2,400 companies were

invited to participate. Rankings were composite scores calculated purely on the basis of employee responses.

“To be named a Top Workplace in the state of Minnesota is testimony to our ownership culture, engagement, organizational health and satisfaction of Malco employees.”

MALCO PRODUCTS, SBC PROVIDES SIGNIFICANT SUPPORT FOR TRADE EDUCATION PROGRAMS

S T U D E N T S U P P O R T

Malco Products, SBC, has a history

of providing significant support to the

technical education community across

the U.S. And that tradition has continued

-- most recently with a large in-kind

donation of Malco Backpack Tool Kits

for SkillsUSA® State Association Sheet

Metal Champions who would go on to

compete at the SkillsUSA® National

Leadership and Skills Conference in

Louisville, Kentucky.

As a strong supporter and advocate of careers in the trades, Malco donates a significant

amount of in-kind products and apparel annually to a variety of skilled trade education

programs, competitions and events across the country, including high school, post-

secondary technical and apprenticeship programs, regional apprenticeship contests and

SkillsUSA® state and national conferences.

“We are proud to work with education professionals across the country to recognize the

hard work and dedication of the men and women in the trades,” said Mardon Quandt,

Malco CEO and president. “Malco is pleased to help ensure as many trades people as

possible are able to tackle a job with our high-quality, labor-saving tools.”

Malco’s year-round “Head of the Class” Student Recognition Program partners with

education programs across the country to recognize high-achieving students and entire

graduating classes in the HVAC / sheet metal, building construction and autobody repair

fields.

Through the no-cost Head of the Class program, educators can nominate an outstanding

graduating student to receive their choice of a Malco tool gift with an average value of

$150. The entire graduating class also receives Malco baseball caps. Since 2005, the

Head of the Class program has reached out to more than 55,000 skilled trade graduates,

including 3,000 “Head of the Class” honorees, representing more than 700 high school

career technical education programs, technical schools, union Joint Apprenticeship

Training Committees and industry association programs across the U.S. and Canada.

“I’m proud that we have reached so many trade and technical education students in

the past 13 years,” says Malco Head of the Class program creator Mike Janey. “When

we started the Head of the Class program 13 years ago, I personally packaged and sent

the awards by hand, and ever since then the program has been referred to internally

as ‘Mike’s Pet Project.’ I couldn’t be happier to have that honor.”In 2018, the program

has seen a record number of participants, and Malco aims to engage with even more

educators and students next year.

Malco donates a significant amount of

in-kind tools and apparel to skilled trade education

programs across the United States.

Meet Jeannette Rieger-BorerTEAM SPOTLIGHT

Jeannette was raised on a farm just outside Northome, Minnesota, which is near Big Fork where she gradu-ated from high school. “I was in the top 10% of my class of 30 students” says Jeannette. She then con-tinued to baby step her way across the northern fron-

tier to the larger settlement of Bemidji, Minnesota where she earned her Accounting BS Degree from Bemidji State University. Armed with her degree, she made her way south to the Twin City metro and landed her first accounting job with a Midas Muffler franchisee. During this two-year stint she passed her CPA exam and also met her husband Tony, a Minneapolis native and restauranteur and, very importantly for Jeannette, not a farmer. Over the next ten years Jeannette pursued a career in the medical manufacturing industry in the “cit-ies”. She and Tony had earlier moved to a farm in Annandale Minnesota from which she commuted and where her husband raised native grasses, flowers and foliage to supply his landscaping busi-ness. They also raised three children, two boys and a girl, on their Annandale farm. Jeannette’s next career move would be Malco Products where she started work as a Cost Accountant in 2000. Her commute was now just 5 minutes from home (and no stop lights). In 2004 Jeannette was promoted to Malco Accounting Department Manager, followed by Chief Financial Officer in 2009 and Director of Finance / CFO in 2010. She also became a mem-ber of the Board of Directors in 2013. Back on the home front, Jeannette is now a retired “hockey mom”. She has also served the Annandale commu-nity as a member of the school board for the past 14-years (chair for the past six). The kids, Adam,Mark and Bailey, are all inching out of the nest. Two, still in college, are currently home for the summer, and all three tend to be year-round dinner guests.Jeannette and Tony still have very busy sched-ules. Jeannette says they gravitate to porch sitting, sunsets and maybe some wine tasting at theirrural Annandale abode. Weekends often findthem up north, far north, to the old homesteadwhere they have a cabin that they enjoy as muchas they can, weather permitting. They also have awelcoming porch at the cabin!
