In recent years, many high end productions ranging from feature films to tv dramas have based themselves in Wales. The epic landscapes ranging from rugged mountain ranges to expansive golden beaches have featured on screens around the world.

Major Film and TV drama productions shot in Wales recently include ‘The Bastard Executioner’, ‘Will’, ‘Sherlock’, ‘A Discovery of Witches’, ‘Dr. Who’, ‘Journey’s End’ and ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’.

Wales has a strong and highly skilled crew base along with a wealth of talent in all departments making it an ideal venue for productions.

Dragon Studios comprise 4 silent stages which are of steel truss and column construction. The trusses are 2 metres deep at their outer edges and have a 10.25 metre clearance to their underside in all stages. The steel frame has been designed to enable a retro fit-out of walk ways and gantries to allow for stage props, lighting and equipment to be suspended from above. The existing building envelope is fully clad with a kingspan composite panelling system that provides an acoustic RW rating of approximately 25dB. The main stage areas are heated by way of gas red heaters which maintain a minimum temperature of 10°C when the stage is not in use.

Stages 2, 3 & 4 are fully sound-proofed whilst stage 1 can serve as a prop store or construction workshop.

A two storey office block is attached to each stage. The main office areas to each floor are individually designed with a toilet block, carpeting throughout, boiler room and kitchens . A lift is fitted for access to each floor of the offices and all stages are fully compliant with disability access regulations. The office areas are separated from the main stage area by a combination of block wall and plasterboard stud partition which give an approximate combined acoustic performance of RW 42dB.

The offices are fully air conditioned and are fitted out with power and data points to the perimeters.

A 100meg broadband line is operational on site as well as phone lines which are ready to go in each stage.

Externally, the site is fully lit and covered by building and pole mounted CCTV cameras, all linked back to monitors in the security gatehouse. A guard operated security barrier controls all access to and from the site. All stages benefit from large concrete service yards with access into the stage area via sectional overhead doors measuring 4.5m wide and 5m high.

One of our key assets here at Dragon Stiudios is space! Immediately outside of our stages sits a large gravelled backlot providing the option of building exterior set specifically tailored to the individual production requirements.

This area has existing power and drainage in place allowing for large scale builds within reaching distance of all four stages. If an exterior build is not required, the space is also suitable for positioning a large scale unit as power and water are both in place. The site-wide wi-fi also covers this area.

Another space to the West of the existing backlot is also available as build space, meaning that in total, the land available for exterior builds is over 100 acres.

Dragon Studios are situated near Bridgend, South Wales. The bustling city of Cardiff is only 25 miles to the east along the M4 motorway, a mere 20 minutes by car, and the City of Swansea only 28 miles away.

The Studios have excellent travel links. Cardiff Central train station have trains departing to and from London on the hour, whilst the same journey via the M4 motorway can be achieved in approximately two and a half hours, approximately two hours via rail.

Cardiff International Airport is only a short distance away to the south.

Geographically, the studios lie within reach of some of Wales’ most iconic landscapes such as the golden beaches of the Gower peninsula, the natural beauty of Pembrokeshire’s National park and the rugged hills of the Brecon Beacons, all within easy travelling distance for productions based at Dragon Studios.
