Recently, the prayer team and I spent some time sharing, learning and thinking of the many different ways to pray. One session focused on written prayers spoken together aloud. Recently, in Sunday service, our Gene Samuelson sang a solo entitled "I Can Only Imagine." I remember when this song was popular. It was played a lot on the radio. Bart Millard, singer/songwriter of Mercy Me, wrote this song afterhis father passed away. It won song of the year at the 2002 Dove Awards.

Here are most of the lyrics. I encourage you to play it on your computer, if you have one, and allow your own imagination to escape to the heavenly realm. As

envision these words, may you have a fresh encounter with the Spirit of the living God.

"I Can Only Imagine"

I can only imagine What it will be like

When I walk By your side

I can only imagine What my eyes will see

When your face Is before me

I can only imagine

[Chorus:] Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still

Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all

I can only imagine

I can only imagine When that day comes

And I find myself Standing in the Son

The Spirit • June 2014

Devotions from UMW resources This month all UMW members will be reading the scripture meditating and responding in faith….

Scripture: Mark 5:24-34

Meditate: Seen and Unseen Disablilites and Pain

Prayer: God of all abilities, remind us that you have gifted us to be exactly who we are. Let us see our sisters and brothers as those made in your image -- an image defined by the gifts of the Spirit. Help us cease to evaluate abilities only in terms of cultural values, economic values, media values and others. Forgive us for missing the immense value of so much that surrounds us but is marginalized by our society. Move us to action in the way of our Christ. In His name we pray. Amen.

We invite you to join one of our adult Sunday school classes. Pick a class and come anytime! Newcomers are always welcome! Questions? Contact Susan Moackler. Faithbuilders Sunday School Class Join the Faithbuilders Sunday school class which meets in the church library on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. We welcome you to join us for this enlightening time of faith, fellowship and friendship. Seekers’ Adult Sunday School Class We meet at 9:30 a.m., Sunday morning in the Seekers' Room on the garden level of Church. Join the Seekers' Class to be a part of a supportive, life enriching group of men and women who are young at heart and were once known as the "Young Adult Class." The Spirit Sunday School Class Welcome to the Spirit Class! Please join us Sunday morning at 9:30 in the center classroom in BBP Hall in the lower level. This class focuses on Bible study. You will find shared leadership and great discussion, leading to growth in discipleship. We encourage guests and visitors to join the Spirit Class and our social gatherings as well. Disciples and Doughnuts This class is multigenerational and always welcoming of new people. Our goal as a class is to explore the basics of what it means to be a Christian and discern how we might grow in our faith to be better disciples. We try to have lessons that are easy for anyone to participate in without weekly preparation. If you are a very busy person or can’t make it every week, this is the perfect class for you!

Habitat for Humanity Linda Zemke

If you are interested in working on a Habitat for Humanity home (new build) in Kansas City, Kansas in July and August, please send your name to Linda Zemke. The minimum age is 16. However, if we get a team together, perhaps the children could be included in bringing lunch to us at the work site. Habitat really needs people who can work during the week, but it is entirely possible that we could have a weekday team and a weekend team. Please send in your interest as soon as possible so that we can get started on making this happen! Experience is helpful, but not required. Willingness is required!

I want to thank you for all the prayers, cards and notes, food, emails, rides and visits during my recent "time out." I had a lateral compression fracture of the tibial plateau on my right leg, lost my father, had to have surgery on my right foot, and on May 12th we had to say goodbye to our loving companion cat of 14 years.

Your abiding friendship and support means so much to me. I also thank God for His faithfulness and grace that abounds.

Love and Peace to all, Patty Brasel
