fered by companies is mounting, lamination, blueprints etc.

In-House Software for Design and Printing

In-House software ranges from Microsoft packages like Word,

Publisher etc. and GIMP depending on the requirements of the

business

In-House software is usually more user-friendly to use and has a

simpler interface

Because of its simple and easy to use

format there is no need for high cost

specialists teaching the people who

will use it, consultants and company

technicians would probably be able to

support it and help those who need it

Some packages can be customised to

the business’s needs

There are some printing software that help organize work loads and

help you set up the quality and sizes you want quickly and saves

your settings

Compared to other high end software, Publisher comes at the

low cost of £84 from some suppliers. GIMP is free and contains

more features than Publisher

Hardware for In-house Printing

In-House print focuses on smaller printers but with high paper

storage to also keep up production rate

These printers can also print at a high quality but does not print

fast depending on the quality

Many printers for In-House use have

eco settings to help with the

businesses carbon foot print

A good quality work group printer

can cost between £300 and £700 and

sometimes more for more specialized

printers

Commercial Hardware

Commercial companies tend to use high output machines for fast

printing and high production rate

The type of printers they would use are multi tray machines to

keep production rate high without

too much intervention or paper

reloading

These printers tend to print at 80

pages per minute or higher while

keeping up a high quality

Commercial printers can cost

around £10,000 to £20,000

depending on the machine and

it’s features

These kind of printers can be found in factories or usually purpose

built rooms in organizations.

Commercial Software for Design and Printing

For commercial publishing software, it is usually a much more

professional interface with many options for detailed design

Software used for example would be Abode Photoshop, Corel and

Xara

Many output options for high quality and

sizes

This software can usually be high priced as

Xara costs around £249 and Photoshop

depends as Adobe are now offering

monthly payments. Usually a package for

Adobe Photoshop can cost around £494
