FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

WELCOME TOMOSCOW.

A warm Russian welcome to all TELFA, USLAW and other alliance members, their clients and partners, and family and friends, to TELFA’sannual event in Moscow. What a wonderful opportunity this presents to renew old friendships and business relationships, and of course toforge new ones.

‘An enigma wrapped in a mystery’, is what Churchill once famously said about Russia. Let us reveal some of its secrets and showyou the convivial side of modern Russia. Since the defeat of the Communist regime and the fall of the Soviet Union, much has changed herein the last 20 years. During the chaotic and turbulent 1990’s, the country stove to free itself from its Soviet shackles. The transition fromanarchy to stability was successful, and now a bright new era is in full swing. Today Russia is a young and thriving market economy, and theRussian people have every opportunity to fulfill their dreams and aspirations.

However, you can still feel the mystery and romance of Russia. As you walk its streets, you will encounter its rich history on allsides. You will be staying at the famous Kempinski. This luxurious hotel is located on the other side of the river, opposite the Kremlin. Fromhere it’s but a short stroll to fabled Red Square and the iconic St Basil’s Cathedral with its colourful facade and emblematic onion domes.Just a few metres from there you can see Lenin’s mausoleum and the place where Stalin used to oversee the parades of his military machine– a mighty force that conquered Berlin and half of Europe. Red Square is also home to the History Museum where you can view CzaristRussian heritage in all its glory. And let’s not forget GUM, one of the world’s most beautiful and architecturally inspiring shopping malls. This legendary ‘shopper’s paradise’ majestically lines one side of the square.

Moscow is also a vibrant centre of culture and the arts. The City has a thriving economy, where unemployment is practically non-existent and business opportunities abound. The TELFA Moscow 2013 program is structured so that you will have a chance to enjoy manyof Moscow’s delights. It certainly won’t be all work and no play! We call the program a Global Law Exposition with Social and CulturalEvents. The Global Law Exposition Forum gives you a chance to learn about interesting worldwide trends in law. You will meet other lawyersand local and expat business people who will be attending the various seminars.

The Global Law Exposition Forum starts on 6 June, one day ahead of the actual TELFA event. TELFA and USLAW memberswill also have their own traditional programs. However, nobody will be stuck in conference rooms and meetings all day! We have planneda crowded social and cultural events calendar, with a range of diverting and exciting indoor and outdoor activities. A visit to the Kremlin,Red Square, the Bolshoi Theater, the Tretyakov Gallery and a day out at the Gorky Park are just some of the unmissable things to do. If youenjoy hands-on activities, why not take part in our Russian cuisine program and learn to cook Borshch and other staples of the Russiankitchen. And for those who prefer just to eat, we have not forgotten fine-dining opportunities. These include a dinner at the Kremlin andanother marvellous feast on a Moscow river cruise. An event that not only affords great culinary delights, but also spectacular views ofMoscow from the water.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you in Moscow on June 7 and 8, 2013. Should you decide to come earlier and/orextend your visit we shall be more than happy to help and advise you. In fact, if you are coming from overseas you should definitely take theopportunity to see more of Russia. For example, a trip to St Petersburg, the former imperial capital of Russia with all its splendours, will bean unforgettable experience.

Thanks and Welcome! Or, as we say in Russian: Spasibo i Dobro Pozhalovat!

A WORD ABOUT

TELFA

TELFA CONFERENCE AND GLOBAL LAW FORUM

Founded in 1989 the Trans-European LawFirm Alliance (TELFA) is an internationalalliance of independent law firms which cov-ers the jurisdictions of Europe and beyond.

The raison d'être of TELFA is client service.

TELFA serves clients that have cross-borderand/or multijurisdictional needs for legal ad-vice. The firms within TELFA offer a widerange of legal services for corporates, entre-preneurs, family offices and high net worthindividuals.

TELFA member firms now have more than700 lawyers throughout Europe.

Through the sustained commitment of itsmembers, TELFA has become one of thestrongest alliances of independent law firmsin Europe.

The fact that the member firms of TELFAare independent offers clients a flexible alter-native to the global law firm model, in whichinternal pressures sometimes compete withthe needs of client service. TELFA's focus ison client service through the provision ofquality legal advice, which can be managedby the member firm in the client's jurisdic-tion, or the client can go direct to the mem-ber firm in the foreign jurisdiction(s) inwhich the client has the need for advice.

Through its affiliation with the USLAWNETWORK "USLAW" member firms ofTELFA and their clients have access toknown and trusted legal advisers throughoutthe American continent.

In order to service the needs of clients thatwish to operate beyond the borders ofEurope, TELFA has forged an affiliationwith the USLAW NETWORK ("USLAW").

USLAW is a national organisation comprisedof 68 independent member firms through-out the USA, with more than 6.000 attor-neys and also firms in Brazil, Canada, Chile,China, and Argentina.

VISITING RED SQUARE ANDITS NEIGHBORHOODFriday 13 – 16.30 • 60 USDThe square’s name has nothing to dowith communism or with the color ofmany of its buildings. Red Square came into itsown in the 20th Century, when it be-came most famous as the site of officialmilitary parades demonstrating to theworld the might of the Soviet armedforces. Today, it is hard to think of aplace in the city, which is more favoredby Muscovites and visitors. The variedbeauty of the architecture and the magi-cal atmosphere belie the Square’s oftenbrutal and bloody history, but the com-bination makes Red Square a truly fasci-nating place that you’ll want to comeback to again and again.
