conference overviewMany organizations are returning to the tried and proven methods of using work standards to manage their business operations. Work measurement is performed to develop the standard time to perform operations. Time standards have traditionally been defined as the time required by a typical operator, working at a normal pace, to perform a specified task using a prescribed method, with time for personal needs, fatigue, and delay allowed. Time standards, work standards, or just standards, are critical pieces of management information that apply to all kinds of work including manufacturing, assembly, and clerical.

A well structured Work Standards program employs the following principles and procedures:· Defining the work covered by the allowed standard· The Standard Minute or Work Unit· Program Planning and the Utilization of Plant & Labor · Estimating· Standard Costing & Budgetary Control · Incentive · Maintenance of the system

This conference/symposium will feature industry experts from a variety of disciplines who will illustrate how leading organizations are implementing and managing their work measurement programs.

Standards do however provide a lot of efficiency for an organization. Troy will talk about what he likes about standards and will share some of the key tools, reports, and recommended practices that are used by the Wal-Mart Logistics Engineering team within their Grocery DCs. He will also touch on some of the key steps a Logistics Engineer needs to execute in order to be successful in a DC setting that is using engineered labor standards.
