SAFE GROUND BENEATH YOUR FEET

Knauf products comply with this standard

In order to avoid structural damage to the building, correct sealing and waterproof-ing plays a crucial role in building construction. The DIN 18533-1 standard published in July 2017 governs the waterproofing or elements coming in contact with the soil. The Katja Sprint sealing membrane ensures that compliance to the requirements of the water action classes W1.1-E and W1.2-E is easily possible. The FE-Abdichtung sealing shield can be used with composite constructions as protection against ground moisture.

New DIN since July 2017

Sealing membranes such as Katja Sprint types were covered for the first time by an application standard with the new DIN 18533-1 published in July 2017.

› Ground moisture and non-pressuring water with floor slabs and walls touching the soil

Application using the existing new standard for “Waterproofing of elements in contact with soil” (DIN 18 533-1-1:2017-07).

Katja excels:

KATJA CAN DO IT!

› As water-proofing against ground moisture with soil contact› On intermediate ceilings (no wood joist ceilings)› Above rooms with high air humidity› Against residual moisture of concrete slabs

But Katja can do a lot more ...

Hollow floor systems are ideal, e.g. to perfectly integrate the building engi-neering services in office and administration buildings in the available space. Heretoo Katja Sprint provides a reliable option for protection against ground moisture. The pedestal elements have a footprint of Ø ≥ 50 mm and can be glued onto the sealing membrane with PU adhesive. It is not to be expected that the pedestal elements will punch through the Katja Sprint sealing membrane.

WATERPROOFING IN TIMBER CONSTRUCTION

The use of Katja Sprint sealing membrane against ground moisture on floor slabs in the timber construction sector has been a proven method for many years. Due to their high strength and low layer thickness, the transfer of the force from vertical loads from the wooden frame to the stable concrete substrate is relatively unproblematic. It is however essential, that it is not damaged during transport or when erecting the walls.

KATJA PROTECTS AGAINST RADON

Radon is a radioactive noble gas that is formed below the surface and under certain conditions can penetrate into the building over time. The occurrence of radon varies significantly according to region in Germany. It has been classified as a public health concern. Katja Sprint is radon-tight and can be used effectively as a seal against radon gas. It is important to note that the sealing membrane may also require correct sealing on the walls.

Is there a problem with radon in your area?

The German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) has provided an interactive map on its Geoportal, providing useful information on the potential for radon in your area: www.knauf.de/radonkarte-bfs

KATJA SPRINT SEALING MEMBRANEWhether as waterproofing against ground moisture, on floor slabs between storeys or against residual moisture – Katja Sprint has been the reliable partner for more than twenty years.

The benefits: › Low emission (tested acc. to AgBB scheme) › Radon tight › Fast and easy to apply with a twin self-adhesive strip on the long edges › Very high sd-value (≥ 1,500 m) › Printed on grid as a cutting aid › High yield (40 m2 per roll) – simplifies logistics and saves storage space › High mechanical loading with just 0.9 mm thickness › Adapts well to the substrate › All details can be safely and easily applied

FE-ABDICHTUNG SEALING SHIELDSafe moisture protection – even with bonded screeds

The decisive advantage of bonded screeds compared to other floor constructions is the very high loading capacity at lower layer thicknesses. As a moisture barrier required under the screed is generally implemented with sealing membrane, this benefit cannot be frequently used.

Using the Knauf FE-Abdichtung sealing shield it is possible to use this plus point. A sealing and bonding primer is formed as a liquid film on the basis of 2K epoxy resins. This firm bond seals against residual moisture from the concrete cover and against ground moisture (DIN 18533-1). The application steps for sealing against ground moisture are shown as examples in the following.

2 Apply FE-Abdichtung sealing shieldon the wall up to the planned uper edge of the floor and a roller width wide on the floor. Subse-quently apply using the large lambskin roller on the entire surface.

Observe the work safety regulations!

When working with chemically curing reaction resins, observing the accident preventionregulations of the commer-cial trade associations is mandatory. Suitable protective clothing must be worn.
