known as MF Husain, was a

modern Indian painter of

international acclaim, and a

founding member of The

Progressive Artists Group of

Bombay. Husain was

associated with Indian

modernism in the 1940s.

Amrita Sher-GilAmrita Sher-Gil was an

sometimes known as India's

Frida Kahlo. Born to a

Punjabi Sikh father and a

Hungarian-Jewish mother,

she is today considered an

important woman painter of

the 20th century of India

Francis Newton Souza

Souza, was an Indian artist.

Abanindranath Tagore

Abanindranath Tagore (7

August 1871 – 5 December

1951) was the principal artist

and creator of "Indian

Society of Oriental Art". He

was also the first major

exponent of Swadeshi

values in Indian art, thereby

founding the influential

Bengal school of art, which

led to the development of

modern Indian painting

Nandalal Bose

Nandalal Bose was one of

the pioneers of modern

Indian art and a key figure of

Contextual Modernism. A

pupil of Abanindranath

Tagore, Bose was known for

his "Indian style" of painting.

He became the principal of

Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan in

1922.

Jamini Roy

Shri Jamini Roy was an

Indian painter. He was

honoured with the State

award of Padma Bhushan in

1955.

Ramkinkar Baij

Ramkinkar Baij was an Indian

sculptor and painter, one of

the pioneers of modern

Indian sculpture and a key

figure of Contextual

Modernism.
