ICICI launched card-less m-Visa

ICICI bank became the 1stbank in the world to launch m-Visa, a card-less and device-less solution

to make payments. It has been incorporated in its Pockets app, which allows payments to be made by

scanning a static QR code and entering the amount

ADB to finance the electricity link between India and Bangladesh

Asian Development Bank (ADB) to provide a loan of 120 million dollars to Bangladesh to increased

transmission capacity of a cross-border electricity link between India and Bangladesh which will allow

Bangladesh to better meet sharply rising power demand and support increased power exchanges

across South Asia

RBI relaxed norms of FPI investments

RBI relaxed the norms of Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) of government debt and also announced

higher investment limits in rupee terms in government securities to bring in an additional Rs. 1.2 lakh

crore by March 2018. It raised the limits in phases to reach 5% of the outstanding stock by March 2018

RBI formed FIF with Rs. 2000 crore corpus

The Reserve Bank of India established the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) with Rs. 2000 crore

corpus to develop and promote activities covered under the financial inclusion initiatives. FIF has been

formed as a single entity by merging the existing FIF and Financial Inclusion Technology Fund (FITF)

RBI approved Yes Bank to set up AMC

RBI has approved Yes Bank to set up a mutual fund, Asset Management Company (AMC) and a

trustee company. AMC and trustee companies will be wholly owned subsidiaries of YES Bank. AMC

will channelize savings of retail and institutional investors in equity and debt capital markets.

APSEZ signed a MoU with L T

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) signed a MoU with Larsen & Tourbo (L&T) to

oversee the operations of the Kattupalli Port in Tamil Nadu. L&T Shipbuilding will manage and operate

the port and APSEZ will be responsible for EBIDTA gains and losses arising from the port operation

India ranks 55

on 2015 Global Competitiveness Index

India is placed at 55th position on the 2015 Global Competitiveness Index of the worlds most

competitive economies published in Global Competitiveness Report of World Economic Forum (WEF)

which has assessed 140 countries. Switzerland has retained its 1stposition for the 7thyear in a row

Vodafone won the transfer pricing tax dispute case

The Income Tax authorities had imposed Rs. 3700 crore transfer pricing tax on Vodafone India over

the capital gains made by the company after selling its call centre business to its Mauritius subsidiary in

2008. Vodafone had argued that there is no case as the transaction was between it and its subsidiary.

Vodafone won this transfer pricing dispute case against Indian Income Tax authorities after it had

challenged the order of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT). The Bombay High Court had ruled in

its favour.

Dell Inc. acquired EMC Corporation for 67 billion dollars

Dell Inc and EMC Corporation signed a definitive agreement under which Dell and its owners will

acquire EMC Corporation while maintaining VMware as a publicly-traded company. VMware Inc is a US

company that provides cloud and virtualization software and services. It is a subsidiary of EMC

Corporation. This is the biggest tech deal in history with 67 billion US dollars worth acquisition.

Google officially converted as Alphabet Inc.

The Internet Search Engine giant Google has officially been converted into new parent company

Alphabet Inc. without any changes in their day to day operations after the US markets were closed on

2nd October 2015. Googles YouTube Android will be wholly owned subsidiary of Alphabet and Nest

and Google X will set up their own companies under Alphabet Inc.

MoU between TECC and ITA approved by Union Government

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the MoU between Taipei

Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in India and India-Taipei Association (ITA) in Taipei to promote

the cooperation between the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) between the 2 countries

Australian Government approved Carmichael coal mine project of Adani Group

The Australian Government approved the Adani Groups Carmichael coal mine and rail project

subject to 36 of the strictest conditions in Australian history in accordance with the environmental laws

of the country. Earlier, the Australian court had temporarily blocked the project stating environmental

concerns

IMF released WEO October 2015 Update

On 6 October 2015, International Monetary Fund (IMF) released the World Economic Outlook

(WEO) October 2015 Update named Adjusting to Lower Commodity Prices which projects the global

growth for 2015 at 3.1%, which is 0.3% lower than in 2014. It is 0.2% point below the forecasts in the

July 2015 World Economic Outlook (WEO) Update. Indias growth is expected to increase from 7.3%

2015 and last year to 7.5% in 2016.

Tata Housing tied up with Facebook to sell online

Tata Housing launched the new campaign titled Social sell on Facebook to sell its affordable homes

online. Through this new campaign the company plans to sell around 250 units of its new 5-acre

residential project in Goa called Goa Paradise.
