NJ WORLD CLASS STANDARDSfor World Languages

All students will be able to use a world language in addition to English to engage in meaningful

conversation, to understand and interpret spoken and written languages, and to present information,

concepts, and ideas, while also gaining an understanding of the perspectives of other

cultures. Through language study, they will make connections with other content areas, compare the language and culture studied with their own, and participate in home and global communities.

Presentational: for a larger audience Create multimedia rich presentations.Imitate, recite, and/or dramatize poetry, rhymes, songs, and skits. Use language creatively to respond in writing to a variety of oral and visual prompts. Synthesize information found in age-and level-appropriate culturally authentic materials.

Re-thinking Assessments:

Performance Assessment: Students are required to create a product. Teacher Observation: The teacher observes students engaging in a

variety of tasks or activities using checklists, rating scales, etc., to record his or her judgment about a student performance in reaching a specific benchmark.

Conferencing: The teacher and student dialogue to evaluate the student progress.

Self-Assessment: Students reflect upon and evaluate their own work. (class participation rubric).

Peer Assessment: Students evaluate each others work. Portfolio Assessment: The student work is recorded in a collection of

materials that reflect the student learning processes, growth, and achievement in an organized and systematic way.

Traditional Assessment: Test, quizzes, homework.

Areas in need of Improvement: Based on your scores in each category, now identify one area in which you need to improve. Explain three reasons why you received a low score. Do not simply repeat the wording from the rubric. Be specific!

Based on the results above, set a specific goal for the next two weeks to improve your classwork. Then tell exactly what you will do to achieve that goal. Remember, there is ALWAYS room for improvement!
