In addition to the four genres "Information", "Environment", "Healthcare/Welfare" and "Machine/Metal", as a new initiative this year, the exhibition included as part of its special program three “theme zones” featuring mainly SMEs that have recently been rolling out high-profile projects. The special theme zones were: "X-Tech", "Work Style Reform", and "Regional Revitalization" and featured a large number of leading SME’s in these respective fields. In addition, "Special Business Meeting Sessions" and "Nine Prefectures & Cities Joint Business Meeting Sessions" were organized to offer delegates opportunities to develop new business partners and create new possibilities for their businesses. One of the appealing elements of the International Industry Exhibition is that as well as offering a place for exhibitors to encounter visitors, it also offers abundant opportunities for new encounters with other exhibitors.

Composition Ratio by Exhibition Fields

The International Industry Exhibition 2017 received 59,837 visitors, which was approximately 73 % of the last year's number. Strategies to attract visitors included the enhanced official website (advance reservation system for business meetings etc.), the sending out of direct mail invitations, and the distribution of e-mail newsletters, as well as the publishing of press advertising in national newspapers, digital signage, and transit advertising including posters put up at stations. On the main stage, beside the "Opening Ceremony", award ceremonies were held such as for the Going-Global Innovation Competition and the Tokyo Business Innovation Award, and a series of seminars by invited experts from various fields took place, where a huge audience shared in the latest information.Furthermore, the Matching Concierge Desk was set up at the entrance, along with business meeting corners and exhibitor search corners all around the venue, in a successful effort to provide a better environment for business meetings.

Interviews with ExhibitorsQuestionnaire Result of Business ConditionsTOKYO INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY EXHIBITION 2017 Implementation Report TOKYO INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY EXHIBITION 2017 Implementation Report

Q1. Did you have a business negotiation during or after the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition 2017?

  (Quantity of response : 635)

Q3. [If you had business negotiation] Results of business negotiations during and after the exhibition

Q4. Could you share your opinion on “good point,” “bad point,” and “requests” with respect to this exhibition?

Q2. Transition Deals during and after the exhibition

Good Points・ As it is a cross-industrial and -sectional exhibition, the chance of hitting

the exact target we wanted was small. However, we were able to reach out to industries that we had never regarded as our targets, which we are happy about.

・ We had so many visitors that there was nothing left of the brochures and novelty items that we had prepared.

・ It was good that we got to know new products as well as companies in the same and different sectors as us who are looking for business partners. We also received new orders, and saw possibilities for concrete business deals and so on.

・ The chance to exchange information and interact with such a large number of exhibitors was greatly appreciated.

・ We had thought we had got the wrong target with this exhibition, but unexpectedly, we had a consultation about a business deal overseas, which we expect to close soon. Thank you very much.

・ There was a wide range of supporting activities other than the exhibition itself, such as prior training-type projects, and booth evaluations during the exhibition.

・ It was good that there were programs for advertising opportunities such as the 1 minute Presentation Movie and Exhibitor Presentation.

Bad points・ There were no issues in particular with this exhibition, but we didn't

prepare enough, nor were we satisfied with the planning that we did, and we would like to reflect on this and improve for the next exhibition.

・ We thought we were too far off the grid in terms of the business sector to match the needs of the visitors.

Requests・ I think the venues for related events like the New Value Creation

Exhibition should be in close proximity, so that the number of visitors will increase.

・ I feel that the visitors are getting older every year. I would like to see the PR targeting young to middle-age segments.

・ I thought it was effective exhibiting in booths where operators of the same and similar types of businesses are gathered.

After the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition2017, we visited and interviewed officials of three exhibitors, asking them about such matters as benefits of participation in Tokyo International Industry Exhibition, results of their participation, effective use of the event and messages to other exhibitors.

We are one of few companies in the metropolis which have intermediate processing facilities for industrial waste. We have long used bacteria for processing waste, and sought new possibilities for a new business using this bacteria. We established a research team called "Tokyo Bacteria Lab" and took part in the exhibition to promote the new products it has developed.Last year, we exhibited for the purpose of a market survey for the research. We had satisfactory results and therefore we decided to exhibit again. Thanks to the experience we had gained from the first time we participated in the exhibition, and the low exhibition fee, we were able to spend money on the display this time.As a result, we had many people coming to see the booth itself, and successfully attracted visitors. We interacted a lot with other exhibitors as well, and I was delighted this time when the exhibitor who had a booth next to ours came to pay their regards. Also, I liked the 1 minute Presentation Movie for the matching promotion strategy very much. There were many people who came to the booth after seeing this movie, and the movies have been uploaded on YouTube and come up on the Internet when people search for the company name, which I thought is nice.

- Message to other exhibitors -First of all, the exhibition is a brand in itself just by being a venue which a lot of customers visit. You can exhibit at such an exhibition at a very low cost. Why don't you try? It is more business-oriented than other exhibitions and has well-designed booth facilities. Another appeal is that the environment facilitates a lot of business deals.

Fruitful experience with ample support and various activities

Yukito Araki, Manager, Recycling Division, Co.taiyo-yuka

We manufacture and sell our own heat resistant fans, and carry out metal cutting processing. We manufacture our heat resistant fans to customized designs, and we exhibited and demonstrated our products in this International Industry Exhibition, too.We had previously participated in local exhibitions, but in order to expand our sales channels in Tokyo and nationwide, as well as to seek interaction with business operators not only in the same industry but in different sectors too, we have exhibited here since 2015.Through the exhibition, awareness of our company has been spreading gradually and we actually exchanged a lot of business cards this time as well. I hope this will lead to concrete business deals in the future. The International Industry Exhibition not only offers chances to find visitors who will purchase the products, but also to find business partners among the exhibitors themselves with whom we can collaborate. What's more, the way others showcase their booths gives us great inspiration, too.We were able to interact casually with other exhibitors since they were there with the same thing in mind, which, in some cases, led to business deals.

- Message to other exhibitors -Above all, it doesn't cost you much to exhibit at the International Industry Exhibition, so it is worth giving it a shot even if you are still finding your way as a business.Of course there are no guarantees of immediate success at making business deals, but this is, I think, a productive exhibition as a place for you to consider how to promote your company and products.

Tomoo Yamazaki, Representative Director, TAINETSU CO.,LTD

Exhibitor field : Work Style Reform Zone

We conduct mold manufacturing and plastic injection molding and assembly. Our company philosophy is to provide products that are useful in people's life, and to contribute to society with the individual skills that we have fostered since our foundation. We exhibited at the International Industry Exhibition to show our mobile toilet specially made for women, "Shii-suru-Hotto", which we developed in response to the 2011 earthquake disaster, to business operators from a wide range of sectors and to raise awareness of the product. We were approached by business operators from unexpected sectors and regions on the day, and our network grew beyond the operators in toilet/disaster prevention-related sectors that we have had connections with to date.We also took part in the "Discover the Attractiveness of SMEs in Tokyo Tour" that was held simultaneously, and exchanged opinions with students. I think it is one of the attractive points of the International Industry Exhibition that we can participate in a wide range of activities like this for free beside the exhibition. It was our first time to exhibit, but we gained valuable experience above all.

- Message to other exhibitors -The International Industry Exhibition is a crucial and pivotal place for offering business opportunities to SMEs.The secretariat office is fully supportive, so I imagine first-timers are able to exhibit with peace of mind as well.

Questionnaire Result by Visitors

A questionnaire was conducted on visitors in the course of the exhibition. The visitors consisted of business operators in various sectors, including mainly manufacturing, but also the public sector, service sector, buyers (trading company/wholesale), and the information and communication sector, to just name a few. Approx. 60% of the companies had less than 100 employees, reflecting the strong need for this exhibition among small- and medium-sized enterprises. Also, nearly half of the visitors hold positions with decision-making authority such as "manager/director" and "executive", which shows the high level of expectation people have for this exhibition. The majority of the visitors came to the exhibition for the purpose of "collecting information on technology and products". Approx. 90 % of the visitors responded to the questionnaire that they had accomplished their objective, which demonstrates that the exhibition was highly successful and satisfactory.

Good points・ Please continue holding this exhibition.・ I found most of the exhibitors even welcomed students, which made me very

happy, and I learned a lot from the exhibition.・I am delighted that the exhibition is successful every year.・It was interesting to have exhibitors from regions other than Tokyo.・ I liked that we got to see up close how hard SME operators are working and

how they tap into their creativity and come up with various ideas.

Bad Points・ I think there could also be exhibitions with slightly narrower fields and target

sectors.

Requests・Local municipalities should be promoted more.・ The exhibition could be further developed if it was composed of groups

including business structure.・ I think it would give a boost to the food sector booths if they were all gathered

in one area.
