Held from 19 th to 21 st April 2013 at the Melaka International Motor Sports Circuit (MIMC), the race attracted participation from more than 50 teams hailing from different institutions of higher learning including the vocational schools. This is the inaugural race organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and Youth Motorsports Club (YMC). The event is also endorsed by the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM). This race aims at providing a platform for the youth to enhance their technical skills in manufacturing formula-style racing cars as well as supporting the development of motorsports industry in Malaysia. Team Manager and Dean of Taylor’s University School of Engineering (SOE), Professor Dr. Mushtak Al-Atabi, was pleased that TRT has made Taylor’s proud. “The members of TRT have done very well for the past two years. They gained the engineering skills, which are essential for their development after working for years in the engineering laboratories to fine tune the car. The experiences they went through would definitely enhance their innovative skills, communication capabilities and teamwork spirits.” Professor Dr. Mushtak (third from left) shows up at the race to give moral support to his engineering students. Imperica Makes Its Way to Malacca!

Taylor’s Racing Team (TRT) won the third place in the recent Formula Youth Race 2013. Held from 19th to 21st April 2013at the Melaka International Motor Sports Circuit (MIMC), the race attracted participation from more than 50 teams hailing from different institutions of higher learning including the vocational schools.

This is the inaugural race organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and Youth Motorsports Club (YMC). The event is also endorsed by the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM). This race aims at

“Although we didn’t win the overall race, our Imperica (car) won the first place for both skidpad test and time attack test. Unfortunately, due to sheared hub shaft, Imperica failed to complete the endurance race to win the race,” said Yap Wai Kit, the senior TRT team member from Taylor’s University mechanical engineering programme.

“Currently, the junior team members are building a new car with a brand new idea. I believe with their passion and determination, they will achieve Taylor’s Racing Team’s mission for a clean sweep in all the races,” he added.

The team walked away with RM1,000 cash prize, trophies and engine oil. The Taylor’s Racing Team took home the Championship title at the Formula Varsity Championship Race in 2009 and was the first runner-up at the EIMA Race 2012.

The Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia (EAC) appointed a panel to evaluate the progress of the three engineering degree programme offered by Taylor's University School of Engineering (SOE) in preparation for the accreditation approval.

At the final meeting on 24th April 2013, the panel identified several strengths of the school, which includes having motivated staff and students, impressive execution of CDIO and project-based learning as well as having an innovative campus layout. The official result of the accreditation process will be announced in a few months by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC).

The panel from the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia (EAC) conducted meetings with the staff of SOE as part of the accreditation assessment at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus.

Taylor’s University was accorded the honour to host the 8th Chem-E-Car International 2013 Competition, which saw the participation of over 100 future chemical engineers from Malaysia, Indonesia and Iran. Apart from Taylor’s University, the annual competition also received entries from 12 local and 2 international institutions of higher learning. The participants were tested on their ability to propel model cars over a specified distance while carrying a predetermined load of chemical substances as the energy source.

This year’s Chem-E-Car Competition was officiated by Mr. Paul Wong Kok Kiong, Under Secretary, Green Technology Policy Division, Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) and witnessed by

Makeweekend Robotic and Drone HACKATHON Competition

Makeweekend and Taylor’s University jointly organised the annual Makeweekend Robotic and Drone HACKATHON Competition, which received over 100 participations from professionals and undergraduates across the country including students from Taylor’s University. Makeweekend is endorsed by both the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

In the competitions, participants had the option to take part in one of the two challenges - Water Drone Competition (building autonomous boats) or Awesomeness Challenge (other types of autonomous robots). The aim was to create water drones that can autonomously complete a course on a racetrack laid on the lake at Taylor’s University, who played host to the event.

During the award presentation ceremony, Professor Dr. Mushtak Al-Atabi, Dean of SOE, highlighted the exciting prospects and interesting discoveries brought together by science, technology, engineering and math. He also congratulated the organising committee for making the event success.

The visit to the manufacturing plant located in Shah Alam allowed the students see for themselves Nestlé’s food manufacturing processes, which cover formulation, spray drying and final product packing. This visitation also included a briefing session by Nestlé staff on the various tests conducted in the quality testing centre such as moisture content, bulk density and foaming tests to ensure quality assurance before the packaging and dispatch of final products.

Nestle’s commitment to providing quality products to Malaysians dates back almost 100 years ago. Nestle began in Malaysia in 1912 as the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company in Penang and later, growth and expansion made a move to Kuala Lumpur in 1939. Its brand name such has MILO®, NESCAFE, MAGGI, NESPRAY and KIT KAT have become trusted household names.
