Nelson Mandela was a social rights activist. He was also an anti- apartheid activist which means he fought fro those who were disadvantaged by the system of racial segregation. Nelson became a civil rights leader as well. His actions are important to the human rights movement because he fought for people who were really in need if help and realized when people were taken advantaged of. Nelson Mandela advocated for racial segregation and discrimination.
One of the challenges Nelson Mandela faced was jail, at first he was sentenced five years, then after he was sentenced to life. He over came these challenges when he was freed and he became president of South Africa.

Nelson Mandela was apart of of
the ANC ( African National Congress),
ANCYL ( African Nat ional Congress
Youth League) and the Guerrilla army.
Nelson Mandela created the Nelson
Mandela Children's Fund which helps
children and youth.
All of his wives and children were
in support of him.
One of the most popular quotes
from Nelson Mandela is " No easy walk
to freedom", another one is " A winner is
a dreamer who never gives up".
One piece of interest ing
information I found was that his father
passed away when he was 12 years old.
He died on December 5th 2013 at his home after spending 19 days in hospital for pneumonia and surgery to remove gal stones. His death was very important to the ANC ( African National Congress) because he dedicated his life to them and after his death they stated" Our nation has lost its greatest son".
Rolihlahla" Nelson" Mandela was born on July 18th 1918. Nelson was born in the village of Mvezo in Untata. He had two sisters and they all grew up in Qunu. His school teacher gave him the name Nelson.
