From the Vicar’s Desk
Dear Immanuel Family,
Greetings, we are entering to the month of August with thanks and praise. As a parish we
have many upcoming events and programs for which your cooperation and prayers are
solicited. On behalf of the parish, I wish all the best to all our teams playing the SWR
tournament in Dallas. Also request your prayerful participation for the Edavaka mission
convention from August 24th to 27th, HOPE Night on September 3rd and the parish re-
treat from September 8th to 10th.I pray that all these programs be for God's Glory and the
spiritual edification of His flock.
August 13 we are observing the Suvisesha Nidhi Sunday. The Diocesan Episcopa's kal-
pana was read at church. I request all the members to wholeheartedly participate in this
offering. A half fed beggar telling to other beggars about the source of common nourish-
ment- that is evangelism.
Especially at this time I want to present before you a special need. The organization Com-
passion international which partners with churches and Christian groups for the wellbeing
of children in rural areas and urban slums in India is in a position where they cannot oper-
ate financially in India. Compassion has partnership with the Mar Thoma Missions in
rural parts of the Indian states where thousands of children have lost the much required
support. This is a time of great challenge to the church- either we have to discontinue that
ministry by dropping all those projects or we find our own believers as partners. In this
Juncture, our beloved Philoxenos tirumeni has taken a bold step aiming to support 5000
children without closing down these projects. This we are doing through parishes. In com-
passion the sponsor for each child was Thirty Five dollars per month but we have decided
to cut down all the administrative and overhead costs, route directly through our diocesan
mission board and thereby making the sponsorship for each child to $ 20 per month. If we
find more than 150 sponsorship, the project can be named after the parish. For example, if
we can do a good number of sponsorship we can have a "Immanuel Child Development
Center" at one of the villages in India. Moreover our children and grandchildren will be so
happy and impressed to hear and know that we extend Christ's love to a less privileged
child of his/her age.
Yours in Christ's Mission, Unnithanachen

ATTITUDE …
― The longer I live the more I realize the impact of Attitude on
life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more im-
portant than the past, than education, than money, than circum-
stances, than failures, than successes, than what other people
think or say or do. It is more important than appearance , gifted-
ness or skill. It will make or break a Company…. a Church…. or
a Home... . The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday
regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot
change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act
a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing
we can do is play on the one string that we have, and that is our
attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me
and 90% how I react to it . And so it is with you...we are in
charge of our attitude.‖ Charles Swindoll.
Something to think about….. ―I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all, but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess‖ Martin Luther. ― Our Little time of suffering is not worthy of our first night’s welcome home to Heaven‖ Samuel Rutherford. ―.Heaven is full of answers to prayers for which no one ever bothered to ask‖ Billy Graham. ― We turn to God for help when our foundations are shaking only to learn that it is God shaking them‖ Charles West ― The best way to show that a stick is crooked is not to argue about it, but to lay a straight stick along side of it‖ D.L. Moody. ―I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always to my destination ― Jimmy Dean. ― Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship ― Buddha. ―Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being Shared ― Buddha.
Mexico Mission VBS Update
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation- Mark 16:15. This year’s Mexico Mission VBS was held on July 21-23, 2017 (Friday – Sunday). There were 70 participants from Colonia Mar Thoma and 30 youth volun-teers from across the United States and Canada. Rev. Biju P. Simon (Vicar of Austin Mar Thoma Church) attended VBS activities. The theme for VBS was Jesus Encounters. VBS songs and lessons were taught in Spanish with the help of translators. During VBS, volunteers taught Bible lessons that included Jesus Blesses Little Children, Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar, Jesus and Zacchaeus, Jesus Visits Mary and Martha, Conversion of the Philippian Jailer. There were four groups of classes, 3 student classes and 1 adult class. VBS activities included Bible lessons, crafts, singing, and recreation activities. Divine Service was conducted on the final day of VBS. Enhancing ongoing programs such as education, Manna project, spiritual growth, and medical assistance require continued support and development. Mexico Mission Committee asks for your prayers and support (financial and participation) to continue the growth of this mission field. Special thank you to the PT Abraham and Mexico Mission leadership team.
