Call for papers now open for IMechE’s ‘12th Fluid Machinery Congress’
In the UK, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) is
inviting potential authors to be part of its ‘12th Fluid Machinery Congress’, which is scheduled to be held on 6–7 October 2014 in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.
Anyone interested in presenting details of their research and experience should down-load the call for papers from the institution’s Web-site at the address below and submit their abstract on-line. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 11 November 2013.

Books cover polymer science and rubber technology
Elsevier Bv has released details of two books, which it has published
recently, that deal with polymer sci-ence and rubber technology.
According to the company, since the publi-

A key feature of the third edition is the inclusion of new concepts in existing chapters and new chapters covering selected contemporary topics such as behaviour of natural polymers, polymer nano-composites, and the use of polymers in nanotechnology.
There are also several enhancements to the book’s pedagogy, including the addi-tion of numerous worked examples and new figures to better illustrate key concepts, and the addition of a large number of end-of-chapter exercises, many of which are based on recently published research and relevant industrial data.
The fourth edition of ‘The Science and

As in the third edition, the emphasis remains on a unified treatment of the material – explor-ing topics from the chemical aspects, such as elastomer synthesis and curing, recent theo-retical developments and characterisation of equilibrium and dynamic properties, and final applications of the material.
