Fans of Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ – which first appeared in comic books in 1969, will be waiting with bated breath to see what this latest in a long line of franchises will look like. Following the success of global blockbusters like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has many tough acts to follow. Added to the challenge is introducing a cast of unknown characters together as opposed to one main lead like other Marvel superhero films. Here, comedic value and a great soundtrack is the films greatest asset, which is a surprising, but highly enjoyable element. Rocket - a raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper is joined by a stellar cast of Zoe Saldana, Glenn Close and Chris Pratt as Quill, the brash adventurer. Quill, on trying to steal a mysterious orb, finds himself in an uneasy truce with a band of misfits as they – surprise, surprise, have to save the entire galaxy. What follows is that trademark Marvel mayhem – entirely enjoyable especially if you’re a hardcore fan of the original series. Think of it as the perfect Sunday rainy afternoon activity.
