0 to 5 Strategic Initiative

This office made of up three statewide partners will manage the overall administration of the 0 to 5 Strategic Initiative. This office will coordinate research, data, policy, coalition building, convening, technical assistance, an annual conference and grassroots mobilization of the initiative.

Headwaters Foundation will support this office with seed funding, strategic communications and will work to leverage other funders.

• It’s preferable that the anchor organization is a non-profit (501c)

• It can be a governmental (county, city, Tribal) or school district but additional restrictions may apply

• The focus of the initiative is to move the needle on three early childhood “buckets” – and the coordinating work of the anchor will be focused on one of the three:• Healthy pregnancies• Positive parenting• School readiness

• Headwaters believes this is a community decision, not a foundation decision

• If we can today, we will choose an anchor organization

• If we can’t reach consensus, the design team will establish a process for selection of an anchor organization

• Attendees will nominate a potential anchor organization

• Anchor nominees can decline, or will have up to 3 minutes to express their interest in serving as anchor

• Given the size of the room, we will use an electronic poll to see if there is consensus; if not, discussion at tables and a re-vote –70% agreement will be viewed as consensus

What’s a design team?• A design team is comprised of 8-14

people representing different sectors of the community

• The design team will meet 2 – 4 times this summer/fall to work with the anchor organization and Headwaters to create a scope of work

• This scope of work will be the basis of the final award agreement between Headwaters and the community collaborative

• If we can’t reach consensus on anchor, the design team will establish a process for selection of an anchor organization

• Ideally, the design team will be comprised of members of the existing coalition’s leadership team as well as new members (if needed)

• Today, we’d like to invite people interested in being on the design team to express their interest. At a later date, we will help to facilitate a meeting to establish a design team for the initiative
