System Definition
Creating controls systems can be very complex (behind the scenes!)To the users it usually needs to appear very simple and instinctive
People won’t use something they don’t understand!!
What does the customer (end user) actually want?
• Do they understand what is possible?
• Define the requirement precisely with the customer first, then look at the system
• Energy Saving - What type? Motion sensing, daylight linking, time switching..??
• Scene setting - How many scenes? How many groups?
• Dynamic RGB lighting - How many sequences? How many colours?
• User interfaces - Switch / button? Smart device..?
Proper up-front definition is the key to success!!

What is 1… 10V?
• Analog bus using the voltage variation to set up the dimming level:
1V 10V
100%10%
• Relays needed to switch off the light:

• The DALI bus is bi-directional and it is possible to receive from the luminaires
feedback about their status (fault signal).
What is DALI?
• DALI = Digital Addressable Lighting Interface.
• All the commands sent by a two wire bus:
ECG 24V
DALI LED Dimmer
DALI Bus LED Module
LightController
DALI
230V/50Hz
24V DC
• Each DALI line provides 64 output addresses (64 DALI EGCs or dimmers
controlled independently).

DALI Light Controller
• Presence control & light dimming by the DALI bus (no additional relay)
• Recall of light scenarios previously set up in the controller

• Each DMX universe provide 512 output channels; as example a RGB LED module uses
3 DMX channels (one for each color).
What is DMX?
• DMX = Digital MultipleXing.
• All the commands sent by a three wire bus (+, -, Shield):
ECG 24V
DMX LED CV DimmerDMX Bus LED Module CV
LightController
DMX
230V/50Hz
24V DC
LED Module CC

• A DMX system can manage the lights synchronisation with real-time events like music or
video contents (high speed protocol).
