THE SOUND OF

MUSICALS

Page 2: Ilovepdf merged

Musical theater is a genre that can be found inside the theater or the cinema, he found both sung anddanced scenes. It is a form of theater combining music, song, dance and dialogue. Currently the points of

greatest representation are the West End (London) and Broadway (New York), followed by Argentina, Australia,Spain, Mexico and Canada. And precisely because of the importance that Spain is taking in music, we decided

ustar this topic as the main theme of the magazine.

The three main components of a musical are: music, lyrics and libretto. The music and lyrics are whatform the soundtrack of the work. The script or book, comes from the Italian, and refers to the story itself. A

playwright writes texts to be represented. These texts are the result of thought and action of the characters andthe task of the actor is to give life, to make visible what is invisible, otherwise the spoken word is noise, empty

text. (From "To the theater" Gaston Martelli).

On the other side are the creative team that is responsible for the interpretation of the music, this groupincludes director, musical director and choreographer. Another working group is the production, which is

responsible for the technical aspects such as scenery, costumes, props, lighting, etc.

There is no set length for a musical. It can be anything from a fun and short act to several acts of severalhours. But most often they go for an hour or hour and a half to three hours. If the length exceeds the hour and

half an intermediate between acts is done, the first part is usually longer than the second. The emergence ofdialogue between songs can be narrated, recited or sung. Often the musical begins with a song that set the tone

of the show, it is presented to all or most of the main characters and shows the general argument.

We are really interested on letting people know everything about this world, concepts, definition, explanationbut also shows, schedules, curiosities or even work like an cultural agenda of theatre musicals. We hope you

enjoy every number of our magazine and in this first number we are going to talk about some new things thatare occurring concretly on Madrid.

Our aim is to change the path that seems to carry the musical, we need an army of new talent and an audiencelarge enough so that the results are profitable. One wonders how many creative people are willing to try the

expensive and risky process of creating Broadway musicals; especially when the film and television offer morelucrative employment. So we want to reach every single person interested in this world and also promote the

consumption of musical theater.

“Surge Madrid” IS THE NEW OFF-BROADWAY IN SPAIN

Last year, during the month of May took place the first sign of Scenic Creation, Surge Madrid, imitating the off festivals in London and New York, and with the intention that the initiative had the support of the people, and not voluntarism stay only a few professionals in almost permanent state of precariousness. The convocation was successful and in almost all districts of the city theater performances and events related to the scene were offered; in a series of events similar to the Fringe. Among all acts highlighted a symposium bar Slaughterhouse Roger Hall, ballet critic of El País, and Juan Ignacio Garcia Garzon of ABC, which maintained a high level ofdiscussion on the situation of theater criticism in Spain, or some poetry events with writers and journalists as Antonio Lucas, who could be compared with those made in local more established in the capital and wrapped by prestigious cultural institutions.

This year the Second Exhibition, which has the support of the Community of Madrid will be held: in 20 alternative theaters 49 works will be released and 199 activities linked to the scene, as performances, poetry readings, will be made even some recreation figure of Charles Bukowski, who is loved by the younger generation writerand not lack of one way or another in anyalternative festival. Natalia Ortega y AlbertoGarcía are responsible for the vastprogramming, centered in the theater butwith an important representation of dance. The budget, you guessed it, it is lower thanlast year, from 400.0000 euros to 300,000 andalso have restricted the number of rooms, although the amount of budget for theproduction is higher, as explained in thepresentation of the event Director of CulturalPromotion of the Community of Madrid,Antonio Gimenez Beautiful, and promotion has declined considerably, although there are names like Denise Despeyroux, author of the acclaimed "Fresh meat", which no longer needs presentation, which opens Tenderness black. The passion of Mary Stuart, in Lazonakubik with actors like Esther Bellver, Joan Carles Suau and Fernando Cayo and Carmen Werner, choreographerProvisional Danza, which will offer its show "Just walk" in Aranjuez.

Page 9: Ilovepdf merged

The activities are not only theatrical, have been called "transverse activities" and treated since Sunday walks by Jesús Rubio Gamo or clandestine gatherings of Regina Fiz, festivals that are improvised performances anywhere and Paloma Diaz, Claudia Faci and Marta Izquierdo and the musical section the bewilderment of Fito Mansilla and girl Vintage, photography by Los Abajonistascompositions, including urban gifts made by Magdalena Gallery.

As Teresa of Jesus has generated unprecedented interest among youth, we have in "Surge" one Teresística, by Lacosaneutra & cia in the Laruc Space promises to start in the viewer physical sensations. For their part, Ricardo Bareta and Eva Tejero will be devoted to activities almost forgotten, as are the readings of theater, in his piece "Only two voices", as will Miguel Murillo with "I, Bukovsky" in Lifts of 23 to 25 April, a text written in homage to the writer who happens to be a paradigm of self-destructive.

If something has "Surge" is the answer to the fact cultural guide it. Hence the confusion that can produce such large doses of representations that give no respite to the viewer point in time, with a certain calm in what may be interested. It emerges is thus a metaphor for a time whenthe report is the broth where one can find his hidden gold piece. Of course the thing is impossible if it is not within the dimensions of a festival so that no less a foregone guide. But the interesting thing about "Surge" is that, for the second time, we have a few days off Madrid's performances. Madrid, like London, New York .... We can dream, right ?.
