Reinventing Legal Education
The Institute of Law, Nirma University adheres to an appropriate pedagogy, blending together the dissemination of knowledge, inculcation of values and nurturing of skills required for the legal profession. Keeping this ideology in mind, the academic culture at the Institute provides hosts of simulation exercises to hone these skills and carve out the vital simulative exercises in this area that help the students to develop the skills of legal research; application of law, critical thinking, argumentation, effective communication and collaborative learning. So the Institute has been emphasizing mooting activities, providing vast opportunities and exposure to the students.
The Institute provides innumerable opportunities for participating in National, International events like seminars, moot courts etc. The Institute has a state-of-the art Moot Court Hall which is equipped with all the modern facilities to give a real life experience of mooting to the students. Students enthusiastically participate and have brought laurels in prestigious National and International Moot Court Competitions.
The Institute also has a well-defined moot policy, guiding the students for the participation in national and international moots. The students are sent to compete in the national and international level competition after a selection procedure at the institute level. Students are provided with intensive training by trained coaches. The Institute provides financial support to the students for their national and international participation.

The Institute of Law, Nirma University became the first thprivate law school to create history by winning the 30
31st and 32nd All India Inter University Moot Court
Competition. The team comprising Ronith Roy, Vaibhav
Kumar & Arpit Singhvi (November 7-9, 2014), team
comprising Harshit Choradia, Yash Bagra & Bharat Singh
(February 5-7, 2015) and the team of Dhananjay
Kashyap, Prabhatkumar Rai and Akshay Dixit (March 5-7, th st nd2016) respectively won the 30 , 31 & 32 All India Inter
University Moot Court Competitions organized by the
Bar Council of India three times in a row.
thIn the 30 BCI Moot competition, the team was declared
"CHAMPIONS" after dominating NALSAR, Hyderabad in
the final round. The team excelled with brilliance and
sheer dominance in the whole competition with a clean
sweep of all awards in their name. Mr. Arpit Singhvi
bagged the Best Speaker Award in the final round as well
as in the overall competition.
Mr. Ronit Joy, who complemented with equal grace, won
the Best Speaker Award for the Preliminary Rounds
completing the clean sweep at the competition. Both the
participants were acknowledged with a scholarship of Rs
.12,000/- each narrating their success stories. The Team
was well supported by the hard work of Mr. Vaibhav
Kumar who held the important role of the researcher.
Winning the BCI moot brought great acclaim to the
institute and helped establish ourselves as a big name in
the mooting fraternity in the country.
stIn the 31 BCI Moot Competition, Bharat Singh won the
Best Male Advocate Award and the Best Mooter Award.
The team also won the Best Memorial for the semi-finals
and finals.
ndIn the 32 BCI Moot Competition, the team won the Best
Memorial Award. Dhananjay won the Best Speaker
Award in Semi-Final round. Akshay won the overall Best
Advocate Award.

The team compring of Ravleen Chhabra, Priya Khemchandani, Shresth Vardhan brought laurel to India and the Institue by reaching the prelims of the world’s most prestigious moot court competition. The Jean Pictet Competition in 2019 in France. Ravleen Chhabra got Nominated for Gilbert-Apollis Prize for the Best Speaker in 31st Concours Jean Pictet Competition, 2019 amongst 72 participants.
The team comprising Ravleen Chhabra, Priya Khemchandani and Shresth Vardhan won the South
thAsian rounds of the 17 Henry Dunant moot court competition held in Nepal. The team defeated Iran and Pakistan in the Preliminary Rounds. In the Semi Finals they defeated GNLU, Iran, Sri Lanka and Nepal. In the Finals they were declared winners against Sri Lanka.

rdbeen adjudged as 3 Best Team in the National Rounds thof the 24 Stetson's International Environmental Moot
Court Competition, 2019-20 and have qualified for the World Rounds to be held at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida in April 2020.The Institute has qualified for the third time in a row for world rounds.
In the National rounds, the team faced Lloyd, AIL Mohali, RGNUL (Octa Finals), GNLU (Quarter-Finals) and NUALS Kochi (Semi-Finals).

The team comprising Rohan Bangia, Sanjhi Agarwal and Twinkle Malukani were adjudged as the overall winners of the NLIUINADR International Law School Mediation Tournament, 2018. The team also bagged the award of the best mediator team in the same competition based on score of the preliminary rounds and final rounds. Chetan Saxena & Aayush Saxena has been adjudged as
the winner of Open Challengers of Herbert Smith
Freehills Competition Law Moot 2020 which is the
leading moot court competition in competition law. The
judge was impressed by their argumentative skills and
knowledge of the basics.
The team comprising of Sourabh Pancholi, Divyang
Bhatiya & Ojasvi Sharma was declared as winners of the th 7 Amity International Moot Court Competition held at
th thAmity University, Noida from 26 to 28 October, 2017.
The team also bagged the award for the Best Memorial
at the competition and made ILNU proud.

Aadesh Shinde, a third year student bagged the title of "Best Delegate Award" at Sansad, the National Youth Parliament, held at Jawahar Bhavan, New Delhi. The competition was held from January 18-19, 2020. It witnessed 65 participants from all over the country. The theme was “Curbing fake news through legislative measures while ensuring freedom of speech and role of judiciary”

ILNU team represented by Shahrukh Khan, Prapti Patel ndand Soumya Vaishy won the 2 Vivekananda Institute of
Professional Studies International Moot Court
Competition, 2014. The team was declared
"CHAMPIONS" after prevailing over CNLU, Patna in the
final round. The team excelled with brilliance in the final
round. The team's effort is exemplary as they made their
way to Final Rounds surpassing 34 teams from all over
the country including major National Law Universities
and defeated teams like GNLU, HNLU, Jindal Global Law
School. The team bagged the cash prize of Rs.25,000/-
for their success at the competition.

Ritu Modi and Sandeep Bansiwal participated in the thIndia 5 Rounds of the Frankfurt Arbitration Moot Court
Competition at Amarchand Mangaldas & Suresh A.
Shroff & Co. in New Delhi on February 9, 2012. The ILNU
team after defeating GNLU and NLU, Orissa in their
preliminary rounds reached the finals wherein they
defeated NUJS, Kolkata. The team has been conferred
with the Best Indian Team Award and Swarnabh Dutta
was given the 2nd Best Speaker Award.

held in Frankfurt, Germany during March 12 -16, 2012.

Followed by the general rounds was the announcement
of the teams breaking into semi-finals and finals. Top 8
teams broke into the semi-finals and our team was thplaced 10 .
thThe ILNU Team won the 6 Annual IIPS Moot Court
Competition based on the Intellectual Property Rights.
The students namely Khyati Shah, Nagendra and Surabhi
Pathak have been awarded with the Best Team Trophy.
The ILNU team defeated the teams from School of
Excellence, Chennai; Amity Law College, Delhi; ILS, Pune
and Symbiosis Law College, Pune during the different
rounds of the Competition.

the national level round of Stetson International

competition was held from November 30 - December 2,
2012 at NLIU, Bhopal. In the semi-finals we were against
RMNLU (who stood first) and our score was very close
to qualify for Florida - International rounds. The teams
performance was much appreciated by the judges, the
personal feedback was amazing.
thIL-NU team won third position in the 12 Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition, organized jointly by the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Delhi. The team comprised of three students Vibhor Chaplot, Ankita Maitreya and Manushi Yadav. A total of 49 participated from law colleges all over India. They were facilitated by the Institute on October 17, 2012 for their outstanding performance.
Bharat Singh, Harshit Chordia and Vasvi Tapriya (Fourth thSemester Students) won "The 5 All India Shivaji
University Moot Court Competition" held at Kolhapur from March 22 to 23, 2014.
The team of Manan Bhimani, Shubhendra Chakra and Ajay Kumar Kanaparthi won the Spirit of Surana Award at the Surana & Surana Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition held at BVP, Pune.
The moot team comprising of Madhav Kumar, Pranav Malhotra, Jharna Sahijwani and Eesha Govilla participated in
ththe 5 International ADR Moot Court Competition, Hong Kong. The team was the first from Institute of Law, Nirma University to break into the semifinal round of an International Level moot court competition. The team on its way to glory, surpassed 22 teams that had participated from across the globe. The team defeated teams from Gujarat National Law University, National Law School University India, Goa University, Edinburgh University and University of Korea respectively. One of the team members, Madhav Kumar, was ranked 5th best oralist out of more than 50 oralists who had participated in the competition.

Akshara Gyan, Mohit Mittal and Disha Goyal, students of the IX Semester and Harsh Sharma of VII Semester won the Regional Round of the All India Moot Court Competition conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India held in Mumbai on July 15, 2015. They represented Ahmedabad Chapter of the ICSI in the Regional Round.
The Team comprising of Brihan Madhav, Manvi Damle thand Sanket Gupta won the 15 Amity National Moot
Court Competition 2016 held by the Amity Law School, Delhi on February 26-28, 2016. Brihan also won the 2nd Best Advocate award of the competition.
The team comprising of Diksha Pathak, Deepakshi Garg and Dhruv Patel was declared winners at the 1st ICFAI National Moot Court Competition. Diksha Pathak was adjudged as theBest Mooter of the competition.
Team of Ridhvick Dosi, Siddharth Chechani and Akash Deep Gupta is declared in Top 5 at the Second Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon SAARC Mooting Competition which was held in Lloyd Law College, Delhi on December 3 – 4, 2016.
The team comprising of Rajeev Kumar Tiwari (First year), Ayushi Mukherjee (First Year) and Suryansh Srivastava (First Year) has been declared the winners in
ththe 7 Jamia Millia Islamia National Moot Court Competition.
th ILNU Team wins Best Memorial Award at the 8 Pro Bono Enviro National Moot Court Competition, at The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University 2014. (October 17-19, 2014) ILNU team represented by Alind Chopra, Bobby Jain and Chiranjeev Saboo won the Indraprastha National Moot Court Competition 2014, at University School of Law and Legal Studies, GGS Indraprastha University. The team was declared "CHAMPIONS" after superseding RGNUL, Patiala in the final round. The team excelled with brilliance in the final round with a margin of 103 marks. The team showcased their finest performance before the eminent personalities from the legal field including Hon'ble Mr. Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri & Hon'ble Mr. Justice Uday Umesh Lalit (Judges, Supreme Court of India), Hon’ble Justice Mukta Gupta (Judge, High Court of Delhi), Mr. Siddharth Luthra (Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India) and Prof. M. Afzal Vani (Dean, Indraprastha University).

The team comprising Varada Jhagirdar, Sanjhi Agarwal and Priyanka Bajpai, semester sixth students have won
ththe citation for "Best Memorial" at 5 Prof. N. R. Madhava Menon SAARC Law Mooting Competition, 2019-2020. The international rounds of the competition were held at Llyod Law College, Delhi from February 21 - 23, 2020. In addition to this, the team was adjudged as quarter-finalists and Varada Jhagirdar was awarded as "Best Female Advocate" at the competition.
Team comprising Binayak Subudhi Mahi Vyas and Somdev Tiwari qualified in India rounds for international SAARC rounds at Prof. N. R. Madhava Menon SAARC Mooting Competition. The competition was held at Lloyd Law College, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, from 27th-29th, October, 2017
Mooting is an intergral activity in the life of a law student and counts for not only the expereince a student gains from participating in such activties but mooting also helps in developing the skills of the students. Acknowledging the same, Institute of Law provides and facilitates the students with the oppertunity to participate in such International and National moot court competitions. Futhermore, the students have made the Institue proud by winning many accolades. The students have participated in the prestigious moot court competitions.

stconjunction with the 21 Commonwealth Law Conference in Zambia in April 2019. The team declared Runners up.

Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, held th stfrom 18 to 21 April, 2017. The team was adjudged the
th7 Best Team of the twenty competing teams from
across the Asia Pacific region.
Team comprising of Parneet Kaur, Samiksha Jain,
Swastik Bisariya and Vishaksha Jaswani have won the
award for Second Best Memorial in the South and West thAsia Regional Round of 18 John H. Jackson Moot Court
Competition, 2020. The team faced MNLU and GNLU in
their prelims and GNLU was declared as the winner of
the South and West Asia Regional Rounds.

thTeam consisting of Alind Chopra of 4 Semester, Manu thTripurari and Prannoy Shekhar of 8 Semester
participated in the Parliamentary Debate competition of
SENATE, 2014 at DA-IICT Gandhinagar and bagged the
Winner’s Trophy. The competition was held from
February 28 to March 2, 2014.
Devashish Trivedi secured an Adjudicator Break at the
Asia Debate Open held at held at Guangzhou, China from
August 23- August 25, 2019.
rdSubham Borah secured 3 Best Adjudicator at
Kathmandu World Debates held in Nepal from
September 12 - 16, 2019.
Devashish Trivedi, a fifth year student secured an
adjudicator break at the 40th World Universities Debate
Championship (WUDC), 2020 at Bangkok, Thailand held
from December 27, 2019 – January 3, 2020. WUDC is
known as the Mecca of Parliamentary Debating and the
competition saw the participation of more than 700
candidates from over 100 countries. The Institute of
Law becomes one of the six institutes from India to have
secured a break at WUDC
Subham Bohra a final year student of Institute of Law,
Nirma University was declared as the winner of NMIMS
Loquitur 2019 debate championship. His team won all
the 7 rounds and clinched the winner's trophy. He was th also declared the 5 best speaker of the tournament.
Further, Devashish Trivedi was declared the 2nd best
adjudicator in the tournament.
Subham Borah along with two teammates from GLC
Mumbai won the NMIMIS School of Law Loquitor
Parliamentary Debate. In the same tournament,
Devashish Trivedi was declared the 2nd Best th Adjudicator. Subham Borah was also declared the 5

Championship 2019, organized by Vietnam National
University, International School, Hanoi. The event was
held on June 14-16, 2019
Aditya Kavia, alumni of ILNU and Vasundhara Kanoria of
Semester IX were declared as winners of BITS Pilani,
Goa British Parlimentary Debate Competition.
Vasundhara was declared as the Best Speaker of the
Finals and Aditya Kavia was declared as Best Speaker of
the Tournament held on 27-29 October 2017

The Institute encourages the students not only for mooting and debate level competitions but also help them to achieve heights in other competitions such as Mediation Competition, Summits at national and international level.
th7 ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition 2012
ILNU team comprising of Shreyansh Jatakia, Sowbhagya thRao and Aishvarya participated in the prestigious 7 ICC
International Commercial Mediation Competition 2012 held in Paris France. Aishwarya nominated for best researcher award.
Pruthvirajsinh Zala, a semester third student of Institute of Law participated in the World Bank Youth Summit-2019 as one of the Indian delegates. The Youth Summit was held at World Bank Headquarters, Washington DC from December 2-3, 2019. The summit witnessed participation of 330 selected delegates from 150 countries. This summit was based on the theme, 'Smart Cities for a Resilient Future'
Ujjawal Bhargav, a third year student has secured first position in National Essay Writing Competition on the theme 'Human Rights as the Principle of Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Indigenous Knowledge'. The competition was organised by IAMR Law College, Ghaziabad
Shatakshi Johri, IX Semester, grabbed the Third Prize at a SOUTH ASIAN ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION - Ensayo , organized by ICRC. She is the only Indian to have won this competition.

Nirma University’s Institute of Law has been adjudged and recognised for its high standard in legal education by The
Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF), and Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training (MILAT). Prof. (Dr.) Purvi
Pokhariyal, the Director and Dean, Institute of Law received the award from Shri Lalit Bhasin, President of the SILF at a
specially arranged function held in New Delhi on September 7, 2012 in the presence of dignitaries and legal luminaries
from across the country. The jury, under the Chairmanship of Justice J. S. Verma, former Chief Justice of India,
unanimously selected Institute of Law, Nirma University for the Award from among the hundreds of law schools of its
kinds among the SAARC countries.

Prof.(Dr.) Purvi Pokhariyal, Director, Institute of Law, Nirma University attended the function and received the honour on behalf of the Institute.
Institute of Law, Nirma University received the ‘Best Law Education Institute’ under Goodwill Brands Awards in the category of best legal education in the country in a Symposium - Thought of Leadership Champions - Change hosted by Herald Global. The event was organized by ERTC Media on July 19, 2017 at Hotel Sahara One in Mumbai.
The Legal Aid Clinic, Institute of Law, Nirma University received the Award of Excellence for Contribution in Social Justice and Legal Aid from Knowledge Steez & Youth for Human Rights, India.
