President’s Report

2016-2017

The fixed fee structure appears to have settled in our Zone 16 clubs are now conversant with the change.

Our membership now stands at 2855 registered members as at April this year due to the two clubs who transferred from Zone 7. Bomaderry and Shoalhaven Heads are certainly a very welcome addition to our Zone and along with Gerringong have performed well in this year’s bowling season.

The Prestigious South Pacific Carnival hosted by Fairy Meadow Bowling Club and the World Bowls Cup singles hosted by Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club were again an outstanding success. Congrats! to all concerned.

To our loyal sponsors who have again supported our Zone, a very big thank you from all in our bowling fraternity. To Domina B.C.I.B, Waldie and C0, Hansen and Cole and Warrawong Nissan & Suzuki thank you for your sponsorship of our South Pacific Carnival which again attracted some 900 bowlers.

My thanks to our Zone 16 solicitor Justine Hall who gives of her valuable time to advise on all matters relating to our Policies and allied documents prior to the printing and distribution of same.

Also I would like to thank our Auditor Michael Waldie for his ongoing assistance and sound advice to our Treasurer, Ray Evans, who has now over the role of Public Officer for our Zone.

Thank you to all Zone 16 bowling Clubs who have continued to support and host Zone 16 events during the year. Without your continued support we could not conduct these events and provide the Trophies and Prizemoney for such.

To our local media W.I.N. and the Illawarra Mercury for their excellent coverage of all our bowling events during the year. A very big thank you to Mike Driscoll who ensures that our bowling results are printed in a timely manner, particularly the daily coverage of our South Pacific Carnival.

My personal thanks to all members of the Executive Committee who have ably supported me during my eight years in office. In particular I would like to place on record my thanks to Brian and Angela Gibson for the long hours that they both put in to ensure that all goes well on the bowling front.

Our Zone would also like to thank Greg Helm and his team at the RNSWBA who assisted us on a regular and timely basis during the year.

Mike Duprez resigned during the year as our Zone Secretary and my thanks to Harry Herring who I hope will nominate for this position in the New Year.

This year our Zone 16 teams have again performed well, and again are, a credit to our Zone.

To each member of the various Zone 16 Committees, a very sincere thanks to you for your outstanding contribution to our Zone during the year under review. You all!

It is certainly a real pleasure to work with such dedicated and loyal team of Officials-thank you all!

On behalf of all members of Zone 16 our condolence to all families who lost loved ones during the year, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Next year will again be a year of challenge, but with the continued support of our clubs and members we will achieve our goals of promoting, advancing and controlling the great game of bowls.

SECRETARY’S REPORT

2016-2017

It is with pleasure that I submit my report for 2016-17 which is also my first. I took over, in an interim capacity from Mick Duprez in mid-March 2017 and would like to thank Mick for his assistance in the changeover and also acknowledge Mick’s service as Secretary to Zone 16 Bowls.

The Zone is in a strong position both administratively and financially and for this I commend President Ken Forbes and those officers who have worked diligently and given so much of their time for the benefit of the Zone. On the bowling front again thanks to Brian Gibson and his match committee for another successful South Pacific Carnival. This I believe is one of if not the most successful tournament of its type in New South Wales and maybe Australia.

Congratulations to Warilla for again hosting the World Bowls Cup Singles Tournament so successfully.

Congratulations to all of our Zone pennant winners. Unfortunately not so successful at State level with only a couple of club bringing back a state flag. Congratulations to Warilla #1 & Towradgi #5 for their success at state level in 2016.

We are pleased to have the addition of two (2) new Clubs join our Zone, Bomaderry & Shoalhaven Heads Bowling Clubs and this has help us with member numbers.

When I took on the position of Secretary I guess I was somewhat naïve in what was required as Secretary. It certainly is a steep learning curve. There were ups and downs, Frustration and sometimes disappointments... It is great to see that our members have adapted to the electronic age it certainly has made communication a lot easier. This lends not only to a saving in my time and zone financial cost. This was also the same saving when getting information to clubs. These savings also happened with the preparation and printing of the address booklet and The Annual Report.

One disappointing factor was the Management Meetings with the lack of input from clubs and delegates. All in all though I enjoying my time as Secretary of Zone 16 representing you the bowlers of Zone 16 at various functions Thank you to all the bowlers I had the fortune to come in contact with. Thank you to the members of the Executive committee with whom I spent many hours at meetings. Thank you to President Ken & the executive members for their Guidance and support.

At the beginning I was really an unknown but by now I believe we became very good friends and not a bad team, signing off wishing all Officials and Members the very best for the future Zone 16. May you all prosper and continue to grow. Keep enjoying your bowls.

Match Committee Report

This year was a very challenging year for the Match Committee. The weather was very ordinary for both Championships and particularly the Pennant season, where we had probably the wettest pennant season ever. Thanks to the co-operation from clubs and players we managed to get through and catch up and finish all events. Good luck to all the Pennant and Championship winners who will play at the State Finals. Hopefully they can bring back some more titles to Zone 16.

We had Bomaderry and Shoalhaven Heads to fit into our Zone this year and some rule changes, which took some time to explain to the players. While some of these changes were not popular, the overall result is that games are finishing earlier and championships were not delayed as has been the case in the past.

The Conditions of Play stay the same for next year, but if any club wishes to suggest changes for the next review, they can get their suggestions to the Zone Secretary in writing or by email and they will go the state for when the review is done. Just complaining over a few beers does not get the system changed.

Thank you to all Clubs Bowls Coordinators for their help and the use of their greens and particularly to the Green Keepers who also had a very challenging year.

A special thank you to the members of the Match Committee, for all their assistance during the season in attending clubs and overseeing all the events. As members of the Match Committee, most do not get to play as much bowls as they would like, but it takes a lot of time and effort to organise and run all the events in the calendar.

Greens Committee Report

2016 – 2017

Thank you to all Zone 16 Bowling Clubs who made their greens available for Zone 16 events during the year under review.

My personal thanks to the greenkeepers of these clubs for their advice and ready assistance during my inspections of their greens.

This year the inclement weather proved a real challenge for the greenkeepers, but the high standard of the greens required was certainly attained by the majority of clubs in our Zone.

My congrats! And again thanks to all concerned.

2017 Selectors Annual Report

Well the year started off pretty well with the under 25’s playing in a quad series against Zone’s 10, 12, 13 and 16 coming out winners.

The Phil Busby shield played between Zone 16 open side against Zone 16 Senior side in a five (5) rink competition, with the open side coming out convincing winners.

From this game four (4) rinks of seniors and two (2) rinks of open competitors to represent the Zone.

The senior side played against Zone 5, 15 and 13 in a round robin series with Zone 16 coming away winners. The two (2) rinks of open players played Zone 13 and won both games.

On completion of the senior games 13 players was picked to represent Zone 16, in the state Zone play-offs winning two (2) games in our section.

An open side of seventeen (17) players was selected to play in a quad series against Zones 2, 4, and 15 winning the quad series.

A side of thirteen (13) open players is to be selected to represent Zone 16 in the upcoming inter-zone play-offs at Port Macquarie.

Congratulations to Geoff McGillivray of Warilla Bowling Club for his selection in the state senior’s side, in finishing thank you to my fellow selectors on a very successful year.

Umpires Report 2016/2017

Over the past twelve months a few things have changed such as the Condition of Play Movement of players this created some confusion however it soon worked out,

To have accreditation processed took up to twenty weeks from start to finish, We wrote to Bowls NSW and asked could we have our own stock of Officiating Manuals to speed up the process this took some time, We now have our own stock of Manuals and the process should only take three to four weeks, It is still not the perfect system but we have to work with it

To Umpires who have been re-accredited and waiting on cards they are being processed and on their way

TREASURER’S REPORT FINANCIAL YEAR 2016/2017

Zone 16 has made a profit of $10347 for the 2016/2017 year which is up on the

previous year’s profit of $7836.

The following items are highlighted.

(1) Zone Championships made a loss of $5365 with participation well down on

previous years.

(2) South Pacific showed a loss of $1435 with an increase in prizemoney giving

way to participation downturn mainly by our clubs,some were down up to 40%.

(3) Pennant assistant grants to Zone 16 winners increased from $9640 to $12040.

(4) Zone Rep. Match Expenses were down by $6632 as matches were played in

June 2017.

(5) Affiliation fees totalled $62931.

All other Incomes and Expenditures have remained within participated levels.

BCIB have advised that they will sponsor our Zone with a $2500 sponsorship

for 2017/2018.

My thanks to the members of Zone Executive for continued assistance during the

2016/2017 Financial Year.
