HOW IS ALCOHOL MADE ?Ethanol is commercially produced using a process called fermentation. Manyother alcohols can be made this way, but are more likely to be produced by synthetic routes - from natural gas, oil or coal.Fermentation?Fermentation is the process in which yeast breaks down sugar intoalcohol and carbon dioxide. Yeast are tiny single-celled fungi thatcontain special enzymes responsible for this reaction.The word equation for this process is:Glucose + yeast alcohol + carbon dioxide Carbon dioxide gas bubblesout of the fermenting solution into the air leaving a mixture of ethanoland water. It's important that no air is present or the yeast willproduce ethanoic acid - the chemical found in vinegar.

So a person driving a car under the influence of alcohol cannot judge a situation properly and act quickly in case of emergency. In this way drunken driving leads to increased road accidents .

This leads to quarrels and fights which increases violence and crime in the society.3.Drinking alcohol heavily on a particular occasion leads to staggered movement ,slurred speech , blurred vision , dizziness ,and vomiting. Drinking of large quantities of alcohol makes the person unconscious.

4. Heavy drinking of alcohol makes a person alcoholic . This makes the person financially bankrupt.

5.Heavy drinking of alcohol over a long period of time can damage the stomach , liver ,heart and even brain. The liver disease known as cirrhosis caused by alcohol can lead to death.

6. The drinking of adulterated alcohol containing methyl alcohol, causes severe poisoning leading to blindness and even death .
