1.1 IntroductionThe adaptor kit (see figure 1.1) enablesthe ILFORD MULTIGRADE 500H enlarger headto be fitted to the Leitz IIC enlarger.Installation is straightforward providedthe instructions in this leaflet arecarefully followed. If you have anyproblems, please contact your nearestILFORD selling company, the address ofwhich can be found on the back cover ofthis leaflet.

Two adaptor kits have been designed toenable the MULTIGRADE 500H enlarger headto be fitted to the Leitz IIC enlarger.The selection of the most appropriateadaptor kit depends on whether diffuse orcondensed light is preferred. With thisadaptor kit, the original enlargercondensers are not required and theMULTIGRADE 500 assembly supplies diffuselight.

Information regarding the fitting andchanging of light mixing boxes isdetailed in the MULTIGRADE 500 Operatingmanual, which must be read thoroughlybefore the equipment is used.

WARNINGTo prevent irreparable damage to theequipment, do not use force when carryingout any of the following instructions.Because the lamp slides are free to move,handle the MDLTIGRADE 500H enlarger headwith extreme care. Remove the lamps ifyou feel it is necessary.

1.2 UnpackingThe adaptor kit for the Leitz IICenlarger consists of the sub-assembliesdetailed in table 1.1. Each sub-assemblyis packed in a plastic bag, with the partnumber written on the bag. Please ensureyou have all the correct items beforeproceeding with any of the fittinginstructions (see also figure 1.1).

The sub kit, part number 6098-P-002,consists of the items detailed in table1.2.NoteTwo of each of the items marked * aresupplied; one set for the 35mm negativecarrier and one set for the 6x7cmnegative carrier.

1.3 Removing the Leitz enlarger headThe Leitz IIC enlarger head is counterbalanced to be moved up and down with theminimum of effort. Before proceeding,ensure the chassis is positioned at aconvenient working height and securelylocked.WARNINGNever lean over counter balancedenlargers; failure of the lockingmechanism could cause injury.

To remove the Leitz enlarger head,proceed as follows (refer also to themanufacturer's literature):

1 Remove the negative carrier.2 Release the large knurled knob, located

on the right hand side of the enlargerhead. Lift the head off the chassis.

With the Leitzenlarger headremoved, the enlargeris ready to acceptthe MULTIGRADE 500Henlarger head.

Secure the two springclips to the supportcasting with the twoM3x5mm pan headscrews and associatedwashers. Secure thesupport casting tothe bottom closingplate with theMSxlOmm countersunkhead screw, and thethree MSxlOmm panhead screws.

Locate the supportcasting assembly ontothe chassis andsecure in positionwith the clamping barand the M6x40mmsocket head screw,using the socketwrench provided.

Position theMULTIGRADE 500Henlarger head upsidedown on a bench.Remove the fourcountersunk headscrews and associatedcup washers from thebase. Discard the cupwashers.

Secure the enlargerhead to the bottomclosing plate usingthe four countersunkhead screws removedabove.

.Modify the negativecarrier. Remove thelifting bar assemblyby releasing the twopivot screws andwashers. Separate thelever brackets fromthe lifting bar byreleasing the fourscrews, two on eachbracket. Re-assembleusing one set of thereplacement leverbrackets for each ofthe two negativecarriers.
