WELCOME TO FEBRUARY AT IKEA

This February we have a range of new products that make the home a more beautiful and functional place to be. We’re launching two new kitchen fronts with strong expressions and affordable price tags - one of these fronts is made entirely from recycled material! On the storage front, there are two new series that work across the home, as well as clever accessories for familiar storage series that help maximise the use of space.

This month we’re introducing a seating family in a traditional style and a range of new textiles to get cosy with, featuring painterly patterns to natural materials. Children also have a whole new textile collection to express their budding identity. To decorate the home there are vases, deco objects and pictures that refresh the room - right in time to get ready for springtime!

KUNGSBACKA FRONTS

KUNGSBACKA fronts are the result of making a truly sustainable kitchen front that helps save the earth’s resources. Here, waste becomes new products, as the front is made of recycled wood wrapped in plastic film produced from recycled PET bottles. The innovation means virgin oil-based plastic is avoided, without compromising on quality, design or price. The product developer Anna Granath explains the new thinking behind the kitchen fronts.

“Our products are bought by a lot of people, and by offering more sustainable alternatives, we actually have the opportunity to contribute to a change, so we started looking at how we could replace new materials with recycled materials in our kitchen range.”

The matte anthracite-coloured fronts not only look beautiful, but are also easy to clean. And it’s good to know that the short life of a plastic bottle, that maybe only takes 25 minutes to drink up, may just get a new lifetime of at least 25 years in KUNGSBACKA fronts.

Our existing OMAR shelving units have now been joined by some new multi-functional accessories that make storing more relevant to individual needs. After getting insight from home visits to see how the popular metal shelving system was used across the world, three new accessories were developed. OMAR cover for a shelf makes storing easier as things don’t fall between the gaps in the wire racks. OMAR clip-on basket allows for additional storage on the front or side, while OMAR connection fitting lets individual shelves be connected to create an entire system. Little pieces for greater kitchen harmony!

Already in the 1970s, IKEA launched the flexible IVAR storage system that even today contributes to orderliness in homes all over the world. With updates over the years, it was found that there was a need for lockable storage, regardless of the size of people’s homes. That’s why IVAR cabinet was born.

In grey metal, IVAR cabinet provides a storage solution across the entire home, whether as a cleaning cabinet or for hobby materials or anything in between. With a new and slender industrial look, the designer Sarah Fager shares her thoughts on sketching for the system:

”The charm of IVAR is that it’s so generic in its expression that this actually becomes its design feature. So it felt important to give IVAR cabinet the same expression, but in durable metal - like the cabinets found at schools and in dressing rooms. I think the series will live on forever. Easy to buy, easy to assemble, and maximised storage space.”
