    Submission to International Journal of Automotive Engineering

    1. About International Journal of Automotive Engineering

    International Journal of Automotive Engineering is the compilation of excellent papers published four times (in January, April, July and October) a year. This is an excellent opportunity for publishing your achievement or work. Your paper will be peer reviewed in accordance with the procedures authorized by a Journal Editorial Committee.

    1.1 Requirements

    Authors who wish to submit their papers for publication in the International Journal of Automotive Engineering may submit the manuscripts to JSAE whether or not they are JSAE members.

    Those manuscripts shall not have been submitted to other generally published publications. For the detail, please see the Rules for Submission to International Journal of Automotive Engineering. 1.2 Preparation of Manuscripts and Costs

    (1) Manuscripts shall be written in accordance with the Guidelines for Preparation of Manuscript and the Rules for Submission to International Journal of Automotive Engineering.

    (2) Manuscripts shall be written within 8 pages. Please see the Rules for Submission to International Journal of Automotive Engineering for the details.

    (3) If a submitted manuscript is accepted for publication, the author shall pay a publication fee as follows. 21,000 JPY (incl. tax) : JSAE member or FISITA member is included

    26,250 JPY (incl. tax) : All authors are non-member (4) Paper for JSAE Annual Spring, Autumn Congress, or any other international Congress sponsored or

    co-sponsored by JSAE may be submitted for publication in the International Journal of Automotive Engineering at the same time when the presentation application is made. Please see the Rules and guidelines for International Journal of Automotive Engineering which is available in our Congress webpage at http://www.jsae.or.jp/index_e.php

    1.3 Submission Due of Manuscripts There is no deadline for submission.

    Guidelines for Preparation of Manuscript

    1. Format and Preparation of Manuscript

    Please see the attached Sample Paper (page 5).

    1.1 Format of Manuscript Manuscripts should be prepared in a word processor and uploaded with a PDF format. Coloring of Figures,

    Tables and Photographs is accepted, however author have to create the manuscripts data with care after confirming these appear clearly in the black and white print.

    1.2 Format

    (1) Text A4 size 25mm top and bottom margins 18mm right and left margins

    (2) Pages Within 8 pages See Rules for Submission to International Journal of Automotive

    Engineering (page 13) for the details and options.

    (3) Columns and Lines

    Two columns layout: 47 to 50 lines per column (First page: 27 to 30 lines) a Column height 247mm / a Column width 83mm/ 8mm between left

    and right column

    1.3 Manuscript (1) Font Times New Roman

    (2) Paper Title

    16 pt, upper & lower case If a manuscript is a follow-up to the previously announced paper or

    one in a series of related papers, append Part ___ or Report No. __ to the title.

    (3) Sub-title (if any)

    11 pt, upper & lower case Use a sub-title only when it is necessary for supplementary

    explanation. Place a dash -, at the beginning and the end. Example; - subtitle -

    (4) Authors Names

    From 9-11 pt, bold Append to each authors name a superscript footnote number with a

    right parenthesis to indicate his/her place of employment.

    (5) Affiliations & Address

    9 pt, oblique type State the place of employment, to the center below the name of the

    author on the first page. Please see the Sample. Use abbreviation for words such as Co. (as Company),

    Ltd. (as Limited) and Corp. (as Corporation). If there are multiple authors with different places of employment, give

    each author a number that indicates the place of employment. Please see the Sample.

    If the multiple authors work for the same organization, enter the name and address only once, preceded by the authors numbers. Example: 1)2) Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc.

    (7) Abstract Explain the essential points in 100 words or less.

    (8) Keywords

    9 pt Write Key words in italic/ bold and put :. First, select a main keyword which indicates the category of your paper

    from the table of JSAE Standardized Keywords (Category code) (see page 8).

    Then, select one to three Standard Keyword(s) from the table of JSAE Standardized Keywords as much as possible (see page 9-12).

    Next, select suitable keywords from the title, abstract or body texts that are related to the content of the paper. These Author-selected Keywords must be noun forms that have specific meanings and are as narrowly defined as possible. Compound words and phrases must be terms that are widely used in the particular field or that are in common use.

    Select 5 - 10 keywords in total. Insert a slash / between Standard Keywords and Author-selected

    Keywords. Please see page 6 for Guidelines for Keywords.

    (9) Category Code

    9 pt Select a code of a main keyword from the JSAE Standardized

    Keywords (Category code) (see page8), and enter the code as a Category Code in parentheses after the keywords.

    (10) Body Text 9 pt. Please see the Sample.

    (11) Figures and Tables

    Captions (Titles): 9 pt Characters in figures and tables should be clear enough to be read

    when figures or tables are reduced to the proper size. 7 pt or larger is recommended

    Please see 1.4 Figures and Tables and Photographs for the guidelines regarding figures and tables.

    (12) References References are listed after the body text of the paper. Where the

    reference is cited, enter the superscripted number of the reference in parentheses at the appropriate location in the text.

    (13) Units International System of Units (SI) should be used.

    1.4 Figures, Tables and Photographs

    (1) Size

    Width of figure and tables should be 8cm to be placed in a column or be 17cm over double columns.

    Figures and tables including graphs and illustrations should be prepared in a separate sheet (independent data) and pasted up directly onto the manuscript after it is reduced to the proper size.

    (2) Color Figures, Tables and Photographs are able to be created in any type of

    colors. Though, those must be clearly legible to the readers in consideration of being printed with black and white.

    (4) Numbering Use serial numbers each for figures, tables and photographs. Please see (5) for examples. Positioning and etc.

    Guidelines for Keywords

    In order to promote the distribution of information and to make information searching more efficient, the author, who has detailed knowledge of the content of the paper, shall follow the procedure described below to select the keywords that he/she thinks are necessary. 1. Standard Keywords The author should select Standard Keywords that allow the reader to infer the content of the paper as a whole, so Standard Keywords are expected to function as headings and also have a categorizing function. Therefore, words with a wide range of meaning are appropriate, and the number of words should not be too large.

    (1) First, select one word which shows the field of your paper from 17 cords of the first category. Then,

    select one or more words from the second category. (2) Next, select suitable keywords from the title, abstract or body text that is related to the content of the

    paper. These Author-selected Keywords are selected in accordance with the procedure below. 2. Author-selected Keywords

    (1) Select words and phrases with concrete meanings that are as narrowly defined as possible. (NA) Critical, Speed Critical Speed (NA) Life Tool Life, Fatigue Life

    (2) Use noun forms. (NA) Studied Experimentally Experimental Study

    (3) The use of abbreviations shall be limited to those that are in common use as technical terms globally. (As a rule, authors must not use terms they have invented by themselves.)

    3. Number of Keywords Select a total of 5 to 10 keywords.

    4. Entering Keywords in the Manuscript

    Enter the keywords in the specified place in the manuscript. As a rule, capitalize the first letter of the word and use lower case for the rest. However, upper case can be used where necessary to convey the particular meaning.

    5. Changing and Adding Keywords Where the Editorial Committee determines that a keyword is inappropriate or that the number of keywords is insufficient, the committee may change or add keywords without the approval of the author.

    Rules for Submission to

    International journal of Automotive Engineering

    Issued June 1, 2010

    1. The submission of papers to the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. (hereinafter called JSAE) shall be done as prescribed in these rules.

    2. Authors who wish to submit their papers for publication in the International Journal of Automotive Engineering

    4.1.1 Research Papers (1) Papers shall contain original knowledge. (Originality) (2) Papers shall contain no obvious errors. (Reliability) (3) Both the writing and the content shall be coherent. (Completeness) (4) Papers shall be of value for automotiveengineering. (Usefulness) (5) Papers shall have no difficult expressions and have to be written in an easy-to-understand expression

    for the readers who are in a same field of study. (Accuracy of English representation) 4.1.2 Technical Papers

    (1) Papers shall contain original knowledge. (Originality) (2) Papers shall contain no obvious errors. (Reliability) (3) Both the writing and the content shall be coherent.     4.2 Technical Note shall be of high value as engineering or industrial materials, even if they lack originality.

    5. Manuscripts must conform to the conditions below. 5.1 Manuscripts shall be written in English in accordance with the Guidelines for Preparation of Manuscript. 5.2 Papers shall not have been submitted to other generally published publications. In this case, "published"

    means "sold or distributed", and "publications" means all publications, in either Japanese or a European language". However, papers fitting the descriptions below shall be regarded as un-submitted. (1) Papers published in the proceedings or the like issued for meetings of which JSAE is a sponsor or

    co-sponsor. (2) Papers for which preliminary abstracts have been submitted to publications issued by the

    organizations with which the authors' are affiliated. (Note that when the author submits the manuscript, the publication or the applicable portion of it shall be attached as reference material.)

    5.3 Technical Note shall conform to the conditions same as those for papers.

    6. The date the manuscript arrives at JSAE shall be deemed to be the date of receipt. For papers where the author is

    requested to explain the content in detail, shorten it, or so on, if the author's reply and the manuscript are not returned within two months from the day the request was made by JSAE, the initial date of receipt shall be deemed invalid. For a paper that is treated as Technical Note by the decision of the Journal Editorial Committee, even though it was submitted as a paper, the date of receipt for its submission as a paper shall remain valid.

    7. The Journal Editorial Committee shall determine whether or not a manuscript is published as a paper on the

    basis of the opinions of Reviewer who reviewed it, and shall determine the classification of the paper on the basis of the author's declaration and the opinions of Reviewer who reviewed it. The manuscripts the Committee decides not accepted for publication will be returned to the authors along with the reasons why they are not accepted. The author is able to submit the objection in writing to the Committee if she or he has an objection to the decision.

    8. Even the papers that are accepted for publication are sometimes requested by the Editorial Committee to revise

    their papers. While a paper is being revised, its place in the Journal is reserved. 9. The authors shall bear the responsibility for the contents of published papers or the like. 10. The prescribed number of pages for a single paper and the like shall be as follows:

    Paper: Up to 8 pages Technical Note: Up to 4 pages However, these limits may be exceeded by up to 2 pages if the Journal Editorial Committee recognizes the additional pages as necessary.

    11. If a submitted manuscript is accepted for publication, the author who is an individual member or is a non-member living in the foreign country shall pay a publication fee of 21,000 yen (incl. tax) for one manuscript submitted. However, if none of the authors is an individual member of JSAE, the fee for one manuscript submitted shall be 26,250 yen (incl. tax). Note that where the number of pages exceeds the number prescribed in paragraph 10 above a separately determined fee shall be paid.

    12. Copyrights

    The copyrights for writings published in the International Journal of Automotive Engineering shall belong to the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. These copyrights include the right of public transmission to publish and release this manuscript on our own website or on a website managed by contract. (JSAE Copyright Rules)
