Problems:
• Digital repositories are independent islands of content and technology
• Software compatibility: viewers & servers & tools
• Lock-in to the software vendor
• Linking extracted parts impossible
• Researchers are now downloading the TIFFs / JPEGs - it is not going to be like that forever…
• Institutions controls downloads (paid or free). Switch to an online services is inevitable.

A standard is missing…
• The open protocols developed in close cooperation with experts from culture heritage institutions
• Ensure correct crediting of the digital content to the institutions holding the originals.
• Watermarking and restricted access to high-resolutions copies part of the protocols (new business model for the institutions in the future?)
