Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur
Founded in 1984 in Jaipur, the Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) (formerly known as
Indian Institute of Health Management Research) has made phenomenal contributions to both research
and education in the area of management of health services achieving a pride of place in health
management, planning and research at the national and international levels.
The role of the Institute is being increasingly realised and appreciated in developing health management
as an important discipline for improving the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of health care. The
Institute has consolidated its focus on research in health policy and programs.
Being a WHO Collaborating Centre and recognised as an Institute of Excellence by the Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare, Government of India, the Institute has been able to promote research in policy
development and program evaluation. We have extended our scope of work to several states. We are now
working in most of the major states in India.
IIHMRJAIPUR
The Campus is located near Sanganer Airport and is spread over an exquisitely landscaped area of 14
acres. The architecture of the Institute with traditional blending of local culture is one of the best in the
country.
The facilities at the Institute are of international standards. The main building has an academic block, a
computer center, a library and documentation center, a conference hall, an auditorium, an MDP center,
and lecture and seminar rooms.
There are three hostel buildings which can accommodate as many as 171 students in rooms which are fully
furnished and provided with a TV, telephone, and central air-cooling. A well-equipped modern kitchen
and a spacious dining hall are attached to the hostels. A number of guest houses are located on the
campus.
The residential complex has flats on the main campus for the staff, in addition to 11 flats a little away from
the campus. The complex includes a jogging track, tennis and badminton courts, and a mini playground
for children. A centrally installed dish antenna provides a variety of TV programs to the residents. A club
house complex provides facilities for a variety of indoor games, including table tennis, chess and carom. It
also has a gymnasium. There is an outdoor swimming pool located within the complex.
The Campus
The Computer Centre is one of the most contemporary in India. A state-of-the-art network with more than
200 nodes connects every corner of the Institute.
The Institute is outfitted with the latest Pentiums/core 2 Duo PC, Laptops, Exchange Server, LCD Projectors,
Laser Printers, Video-conferencing facility and technically competent software and hardware
professionals.
The Institute's network is linked to the Internet via a dedicated leased line enabling round the clock fast
Internet connectivity. For students, teachers and guests' support, throughout the campus Wi-Fi facility is
provided for wireless connectivity.
Besides providing support to the ongoing activities of the Institute like research, teaching, training and
consultancy, the Centre is actively engaged in software development in the field of health and hospitals.
The Computer Centre acts as a central nervous system ensuring the satisfactory operations and bringing
life to every activity of the Institute.

The D.A. Henderson Library and Documentation Centre located in the main building of the Institute has a
well-balanced collection of books and periodicals and provides user-friendly services and easy access to
facilities.
It is one of the best professional libraries in India. It is the first automated library in the state and has a
unique collection of publications in various subjects along with over 100 periodicals of professional and
research and general nature.
The collection also includes audio and video cassettes, CD-ROMs and Database from India and abroad,
like Health Plan, Popline, e-TALC, Indiastate.com etc.

Postgraduate Program
The Institute offers a two-year full-time Postgraduate Program with specialization in Hospital Management and Health Management. It is a flag ship educational program aiming at developing trained professional managers with requisite skills in planning and operating management techniques; diagnosing and solving management problems; and acquiring consultancy skills, with a view to preparing them to manage hospitals and healthcare institutions in developing countries both in the public and the private sectors, and to meet the rising demand for quality care. For practical training the Institute has collaborative arrangements with multi-specialty hospitals, NGOs and healthcare organizations.
As the program has set high standards of management education in the health sector, it has attained the status of a premier program in the country. Our students go for training and placement to as many as one hundred hospitals and healthcare organizations.
The program, with an intake capacity of 120 seats, is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The Institute has approval for admitting students who are foreign nationals/ PIO's/ children of Indian workers in the Gulf Countries, under 15% supernumerary quota.
The Institute has featured in the list of top 5 Sectoral Business Schools of the country.
The program has also been awarded the accreditation status by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
The program has been recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi as equivalent to MBA degree of Indian universities.
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has awarded approval to admit 18 foreign students in the Institute. The Institute also has permission to admit PIOs/ Children of Indian workers in the Gulf Countries.
Structure of the Programme
Summer Training
Summer training is an integral part of the program. The students are placed for eight weeks in various hospitals and healthcare organizations throughout the country and abroad for hands-on training. They are also assessed on the basis of their performance during this period.
First Year Courses
During the first year, the programme aims at cultivating multi-disciplinary skills of health systems, management principles and communication which are common to all the streams. The students will be offered Induction Courses and Core Courses

RESEARCHES (DISSERTATION)
The student will be required to complete a satisfactory thesis
in his/her area of interest. The thesis must be approved by
two faculty members in addition to the Thesis Advisor. The
thesis will include critical review of literature pertaining to
the specific area of interest, data collection and analysis on
the selected problem, besides other components of the
thesis. The thesis must be completed in the second year.
Evaluation Process
Evaluation of performance is a continuous process. To be recommended for the award of the diploma, candidates are required to achieve a prescribed standard in the total course work, including both internal assessment and final written examination.
The grades*, grade points and equivalent percentages are as follows:

Grade point average is calculated to two decimal points.
* Introductory courses are not considered for grade point average.
Award of DiplomaThe following are the requirements for passing the examination and award of the diploma:
Attendance: Every student is expected to attend all the classes (not less than 75% in any case). No unauthorized absence from field placement is permitted. Up to 25% absence is allowed with prior permission of the module coordinator for unavoidable circumstances.
Examination: The evaluation of a student's performance in a module will be judged on a continuous basis. Every module carries a maximum of 100 marks.
The internal assessment includes assignments and class participation, whereas the final exam is a written exam.
To clear a module every student has to score a minimum of 50% marks in both the internal assessment and the final exam separately.

Summer Training: Summer training is an integral part of the course. The students are also assessed on the basis of their performance during this period.
Research (Dissertation): Every student is required to write a dissertation in his/her area of interest.
AlumniOn completion of the program, students become part of a network of alumni. An alumni newsletter, published twice a year, provides information on current program activities. An alumni reunion event is held at the Institute once in two years.
Admission Requirements
Application and AdmissionCandidates aspiring for admission to the PGDHM program are required to fill in an admission form, which can be obtained from the Institute by paying in cash or by sending a demand draft for US$ 50 drawn in favour of "Institute of Health Management Research", payable at Jaipur for admission process fees.
Application forms can also be downloaded from our website: www.iihmr.org. In the latter case, applications must be sent along with a DD for US$ 50 for admission process fees.
Eligibility· Applicants should have passed Bachelor's degree exam or its equivalent as per the eligibility requirement of the program with
a good academic record from a University/Board included in the list of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), UGC and AICTE. In case the University/ Board is not included in the said list, the candidate has to obtain and submit a certificate to this effect from AIU by paying the requisite fee.
· Applicants should be proficient in English (both oral and written) as the medium of instructions is English.
· Completed application forms and accompanying documents should reach IIHMR, Jaipur by June 25, 2010. The final selection of the applicant will be made by June 30, 2010. The program begins on July 6, 2010.

Visa Requirements· Applicants should have valid passport and student visa. The visa can be obtained from the Indian missions abroad by
producing a letter of confirmed offer of admission from Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur.
· They should also obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
Health RequirementsAll applicants are required to submit, along with their applications, a certificate of good health from a licensed physician based on a medical examination performed during the year of the application.

Eligibility Requirements · A Bachelor's degree in any discipline.· Candidates appearing at the final year examination of the Bachelor's degree or waiting for the results of their final year
degree examinations in 2010 may also apply. Selected candidates will be given provisional admission. They will be required to produce evidence of their graduation within two months of admission.
Working executives should apply through their employers if already employed, or through the sponsoring agency if being sponsored. They should also indicate whether they will be sponsored by their organisations or will be self-sponsored.
Selection ProcedureDuly completed application forms may be sent by post together with all the documents in support of eligibility. An application will be considered only when it is received with all documentary evidences. The final selection of the candidate is based on his/her performance in college and experience.
Candidates are required to bring original documents for verification at the time of joining.

Stream Selection
The stream will be allotted on the basis of merit and
preference in the First Year.
Policy towards Ragging
The Institute observes “Zero tolerance” policy to ragging
and expels students found guilty of maltreating the
freshers. Any student accused of ragging would be given a
chance to explain his/her conduct and, if found guilty, be
straightaway expelled from the Institute. Every student and
parent/guardian should compulsorily submit a signed
affidavit attached with the application form.
Medical Fitness
Students short-listed for admission need to undergo a
medical examination at their own cost as per the Institute
norms. Only those found medically fit will be admitted to
the course.
The Institute has a multi-disciplinary faculty which is primarily involved in teaching courses and is also engaged in research,
training and consultation activities. The faculty strives to create an exciting learning environment that pushes our students to tackle
complex issues and develop creative solutions to critical problems.
The faculty also plays a vital role in keeping our program internationally focused through exchanges with business schools in other
countries. Many faculty members conduct research and participate in international programs in Asia. By taking part in these
programs our faculty members are better equipped to provide a global view of business and a cultural appreciation for a world
without boundaries.
The faculty members are also involved in student activities through various committees, like Seminar Committee, Conference
Committee and Campus Welfare Committee. The students are also members of the different committees.
In the last two years, eleven members joined the Institute on faculty positions and seven faculty members left the Institute.

Governing BoardThe Governing Board oversees and supports the institute's academic functions. It consists of eminent academicians, researchers, health management practitioners and senior executives in the area of health from both public and private sectors.
Academic Advisory CouncilThe Institute has an Academic Advisory Council to advise on matters related to academic planning, curricula/content development, infrastructure, monitoring and developing evaluation process, examinations and such other matters of importance in relation to the programme. Members of the Academic Advisory Council meet once a year.
