Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Delhi a non-
profit educational project of The Gem & Jewellery
Export Promotion Council, sponsored by the Ministry
of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. Set
up in 1986, it is one of the oldest and prestigious
institutes of its kind in the country. The institute’s
history of jewellery education in design, gemology
and production of jewellery reads much like a
chronicle of the jewellery industry’s own growth and
sophistication.
At IIGJ courses are designed for the ambitious,
enthusiastic and determined career seeking
students. The courses here will develop individual
creativity, understanding and skills in Jewellery
Design, Gemology and Manufacturing. The fully
integrated, vocationally oriented programme of
study is geared for producing jewellery professionals
with the skills that industry seeks.
The objectives are: To impart a high level of
systematic education in jewellery design, gemology
and manufacturing so as to induct the quality of the
Indian jewellery product at par with international
standards. Furthermore, to understand and to bring
awareness in the fields of Gemology, Manufacturing
and Jewellery Design Concept, and to introduce to
the world Indian Jewellery and Western Designs for
the Indian market as well as for export purposes, as
there is an enormous potential for exports, creating
employment opportunities. In other words, Indian
Institute of Gems & Jewellery aims to create a world-
class professional manpower talent pool for the fast
growing Indian Jewellery Sector. At the core of the
institute’s activity is its commitment to education.
IIGJ, Delhi is a non-profit making institute. It is a project of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, the only organisation fully dedicated to the Jewellery Trade in India with 7000 members. The GJEPC is sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India.
IIGJ, Delhi has three branches in India – IIGJ - Andheri, Mumbai; IIGJ – Tardeo, Mumbai and IIGJ, Jaipur and 3 sister organisations under The GJEPC: Gem Testing Laboratory, Jaipur/ Indian Diamond Institute, Surat., Gem Testing Laboratory, New Delhi.
IIGJ, Delhi recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary. IIGJ, Delhi is the most experienced of all Indian Jewellery Design, Manufacturing and Gemology Institutes.
IIGJ, Delhi has trained over 10000 Design, Manufacturing and Gemology students since its inception.
IIGJ, Delhi was under permanent supervision of German Design and Manufacturing Experts from inception till 2010.
In the last 10 years students & ex-students have won lots of accolades in various Design Competitions, International as well as National. No other institute can show such success.
IIGJ is conducting courses on day-to-day basis.
A lecture means 3 hours at IIGJ.
We give home assignments to the students to make maximum use of the course.
To give maximum attention to the individual student, we have a limited number of seats in the courses.
12 in Design and Gemology Courses, 8 in Jewel CAD/RHINO.
Maximum 20 students are taken in Manufacturing but you will have two trainers.
Almost 90% of our passed out students have successfully gained employment.

ENROLMENT PROCEDURE
The Institute has a good strength of trained staff that
are professionally qualified, experienced, competent
and always eager to encourage students for their
innovative concepts, keeping in mind a realistic
approach.
The convenient location of INDIAN INSTITUTE OF
GEMS & JEWELLERY in the centre of the triangle of
New Delhi Railway Station, Connaught Place and
Delhi’s famous jewellery market, Karol Bagh gives
easy access from all over Delhi. Furthermore, IIGJ is
well connected by the Delhi Metro, public transport
and the spacious Flatted Factories Complex
guarantees a car parking. It is situated at just 5
minutes walk from Jhandewalan Metro Station.
Jewellery Design Foundation/Gemology Course is
open to everyone provided he/she holds a 10+2
Certificate with English Medium. The number of
candidates is limited to 12 per batch. The enrollment is
on first come first served basis for admission in
Jewellery Design Foundation & Gemology.
Jewellery Technology Advance Diploma, the
admission criterion is based on the performance
(portfolio) during Jewellery Design Foundation
Course and continues upgrading before submitting
the file for evaluation. A Diploma is issued subject to
passing in all subjects. Course fees once paid are
neither refundable nor transferable.
All Design Rooms, Gem Laboratories and Workshops
are fully air conditioned and are supported by two
generators of 70KV capacity each.
FACILITIES Workshops are designed to give students a broad
range of technical opportunities. The workshops and
machine rooms at IIGJ are fully equipped to
accommodate most hands on metalsmithing and
jewellery making practice.Four spacious Design Rooms for theory and design
lectures providing a relaxed working atmosphere. The
Lectures are supported by modern audio visual
teaching facilities.The Library is open to every students for research and
documentation. It includes a range of the latest
magazines and books from tribal to modern western
style, jewellery and gemstones, as well as books about
general design subjects e.g. Architecture, Textile,
Industrial design and a plethora of books on
Gemology.A separate Cad Room with an individual computer for
every enrolled CAD student to secure a concentrated
working environment.A Photo Gallery and a jewellery gallery reflecting the
development and the efforts of our students.Well appointed gemology labs with state-of-the-art
equipment.
PLACEMENTBeing an educational project of The Gem & Jewellery
Export Promotion Council with more than 7000,
members all over India, IIGJ is in close contact with the
industry. IIGJ provides contacts between students
and the industry.
A Placement and career fair is held annually where IIGJ
brings recruiters and job seekers together. This fair is a
huge opportunity for alumni to interact with the
who’s who in the Gems and Jewellery industry.
IIGJ aims to prepare students for professional
practice as leaders in their chosen field. When they
leave us they can expect to become quickly
established amongst the emergent generation in the
industry, they can set up professional workshops,
become designers and gemologists etc. More than
90% of our students have successfully chosen a career
in this field.

JEWELLERY TECHNOLOGY DIPLOMA-BASIC Duration : 6 month Full Time The manufacturing course starts with basic exercise i.e. sawing, filing, smithing, alloying drilling and soldering etc. getting accustomed to precious & non precious metals. Lecture on safety regulations. Introduction to basic stone-setting like bezel setting, prong setting. Students are given a project to make a piece of jewellery
JEWELLERY TECHNOLOGY DIPLOMA-ADVANCEDuration : 6 month Full Time Drawing designs and transforming them into jewellery. This includes advance technique like enamelling & wax carving. Introduction on casting procedure is provided to understand the concept of mass production. Different type of movements & lock are introduced to improve technical skills. Student are assigned a theme based project to develop and consolidate their experience and understanding of the various techniques explored during the course.
JEWELLERY TECHNOLOGY DIPLOMADuration : 1 Year Full Time Converting your ideas into real products is an art and in this course we focus on the basic manufacturing skills that combine creative designing and technical interpretation. Awareness about the latest trends and technological development in jewellery sector help the student to convert their designs into jewellery pieces.
The course starts with basic manufacturing skills and by the end of the course students are able to tackle the complexities at different stages of manufacturing.
The course is divided into different modules. It begins with the basic exercise like sawing, smithing, alloying, soldering, drilling and filing and are followed by advance techniques like enamelling, lock and movement making, casting, wax carving, polishing and other surface treatments.
During the course students are taken for a study tour to show them the latest technology being used in industrial units to increase their awareness in the field.
SHORT TERM COURSES
COMPREHENSIVE CASTING COURSEDuration : 3 WeeksThe course covers all techniques of Jewellery Casting,
Mould making, Wax injection, Wax tree making,
Investment making, Burnout process, Centrifugal and
vaccum casting and Cast tree finishing in theory and as
extensive practical.
STONE-SETTING COURSEDuration : 2 WeeksFor those who are educated in stone setting. This course
will cover techniques like Flush, Star, Channel, Pave and
Pressure settings.
TRADITIONAL JEWELLERY MAKING Duration : 4 WeeksFor those who are educated in jewellery manufacturing.
This course covers the traditional way of jewellery making
i.e. filigree. Students are asked to make a design of their
own and manufacture under the expert guidance.
